Wild Things shine at All-Star Game

The Wild Things had a big impact on the 2009 Frontier League All-Star game Wednesday night at Road Ranger Stadium in Loves Park, Ill.

Washington's Grant Psomas and Jacob Dempsey each hit a home run and Wild Things reliever Nick Peterson was the winning pitcher as the East All-Stars defeated the West, 5-2.

Florence's Ryan Basham, who was named the game's Most Valuable Player, broke a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning. Psomas, who won the Home Run Derby on Tuesday night, then made it back-to-back homers for the East. Psomas' blast gave came on the first pitch he saw from Rockford's Tanner Watson, the winningest active pitcher in the Frontier League.

After a hit by Lake Erie's Luke Hetherington in the top of the seventh, Dempsey worked the count to 3-2 before hitting a two-run homer to give the East a 5-0 lead.

The West scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Peterson pitched a perfect fifth inning, striking out two of the three batters he faced.

Too bad Ernie Banks was not on the all-star team.
He could have been one of the few players ever tossed from an All-star game.

Coming up at 11 on Channel 4 Action News....North Korea agrees to dismantle their nuclear weapons, peace declared in the Middle East, but our top story tonight.......Washington Wild Things first baseman Ernie Banks was ejected from 2 games earlier this year.

Why don't we just ignore his quite impressive offensive stats and just release the guy and sign Adam LaRoche to play first? Yes, that is sarcasm. Enjoy his bat while you can, before he gets back into affiliated ball. And meanwhile, if I were you....I wouldn't park anywhere near the outfield fence at Consol Energy Park.

It will be interesting to see if the momentum from the last home stand can be carried into the second half. My prediction? They don't make the playoffs. Here's hoping I'm wrong.

No chance on the playoffs. That was lost a long time ago. Too many teams in front of them. Playing for next year.

There really isn't a "next year" in this league, is there? I don't know the stat, but I'd guess rosters are overhauled by at least 50% each season. Grant Psomas and Brett Grandstrand both will be 27 years old this year and will age out of the league. Perhaps Banks will be in affiliated ball?
I still say if you have to trade a slugger to get an ace like Southern Illinois' Ryan Bird (fat chance, just using him as an example) do it! But I wouldn't trade Ernie for anybody. I think if the WT had any chance to do it, it would have happened by now. I'm not waving the white flag just yet, though.

Banks has about 10 games left as a wild thing before some one signs him. if he comes out of the break the way he went into it, that number could be cut in half

"Banks has about 10 games left as a wild thing before some one signs him."

That would move Psomas to first base and give Raniere an everyday opportunity.

probably meant Rubble, as in, stone, as in Fred's sidekick, as in STUPID.

So welcome, Barney Stupid. Next clue you get will be a first. You fit in well with the original racist idiot anonymous poster, so much so that you are probably one and the same.
