Quality stuff

With 60 games to go and the Wild Things back in last place in the East Division, here's a quick check of the "quality starts" (at least six innings pitched and three earned runs or less allowed) made by each pitching staff in the Frontier League:

19 - Kalamazoo
15 - Traverse City
14 - Rockford
12 - Florence
12 - Gateway
12 - River City
11 - Midwest
10 - Lake Erie
9 - Evansville
9 - Southern Illinois
8 - Windy City
7 - Washington

Zach Groh and Jason Neitz each have three quality starts for Washington and Andy Schindling has the seventh.

yes, but despite neitz 4-1 record and his 3 quality starts. he is the beneficary of good run support. A couple of his wins I don't feel he really pitched that well. The last home win I think he gave up 12 hits in 5 ip. He still makes me nervous getting the ball.

Greg "Dutch" Thompson, games host at Wild Things baseball in North Franklin Township, will be giving away prizes for the first time tonight to the first fans to locate cutouts of George Washington's head that will be hidden in the ballpark. The game is a promotion of Washington County Tourism Promotion Agency. Winners will receive packages with admission to local museums and attractions. (Scott Beveridge/O-R)

Can anybody hazard a guess as to when the cheap ass WT will get Brett Grandstrand a uniform at almost fits?
If they can give away a piece of crap used car, AND since WE are giving them a new playing surface,
you might think Franni might spring for a new uniform!
Probably not because she IS an "attorney" and we all know how freakin cheap they are!

he LIKES the way the uniform fits. what's YOUR problem with it? oh, that probably doesn't matter to you...right?

There is obviously some lazy crapbird at the WT office that sits there all day waiting to put a WT spin on every post.
Brett looks like some baggy pants idiot from the 1930s. If he likes his uniform that way then he has no pride!

Does the PA announcer there really take time off during games?

Yes he does. He is mentally absent ALL the time. He is nothing but an ego driven mental midget at his best. Most of the time he isn't even that good.
I think Franni likes him. They are a good match.

As soon as someone disagrees with something they "must work for the Wild Things"? I'm sure that's part of their business up there. Ticket office. Check. Grounds crew. Check. Oh and make sure we hire someone to check the internet in case we're mentioned in a blog somewhere.

And by the way, Grandstrand's stirup look is how baseball players used to wear their pants back in the day. Which was a Wednesday. Fun fact.

No quality stuff tonight. It was quantity stuff: quantity of bad pitching both starting and bullpen.
No quality defense.
No problem in holding on to last place.
Another typical night at taxpayers field tonight.
Yes, taxpayer is right.
Build with tax payer money.
Will have taxpayer turf.
On the positive side as a taxpayer, I guess I own part of the field just like I own GM, Chrysler, Pnc Park, and other public places or companies financed by taxpayers.
By being financed with taxpayer money, it thus remains tax free from real-estate tax.
When Consol's contract is up, they should rename it Taxpayer Field.

To think that I gave half a thought to attending tonight's game....but didn't due to the weather. I caught the last 2 innings on the internet radio. The old magic losing formula is back-7 combined walks/hit batsmen. Would it really be such a terrible idea to cut the entire pitching staff and take the first 12 guys that are crazy enough to board the bus to Michigan on Thursday night? Is it too late to sign Tatum O'Neil to pitch?

Mark Mason should channel his inner Fran Riordan and take the mound as a player/coach. WT are on pace for $20,000 of tourism money per win in 2009.

Here's an idea on how to improve the Wild Things' shabby pitching: sign Ron Wilson, Bob in E. Wash., thriftyone, swisscheda, Bob Gregg, WPARedneck, obuma, Joe from Gabby, Jamal, llib and some guy who will go by the name of Anonymous. They can't be any worse than what's there now.

Ernie Banks should have known what was going to happen after he hit two dingers. Instead of letting the umpire handle the situation the hot headed Ernie just had to act up.
Ernie Banks is, and will continue to be, nothing but a package of trouble. He's a human time bomb!

"Ernie Banks should have known what was going to happen after he hit two dingers....Ernie just had to act up."

Why should have have known something was going to happen? Banks did nothing to show up the pitcher on either homerun. In fact, he rather quickly ran the bases, particularly on the second homer.

Then, pitch one goes behind him. He appears to have muttered something. Pitch two goes under his chin, and the PITCHER challenges him to do something about it.

Banks relatively kept his cool in a situation that quite likely SHOULD have ended with the pitcher on his backside, bleeding from the nose and mouth. Or, ejected from the game. Either way fine with me.

You've obviously got some problem with Banks. He served his time, had his chat with the folks about life, and did absolutely nothing wrong last night in a very charged situation. Tip of the cap to Banks, one of the few WT who seemed like they gave a damn last night.

brilliant move by hot-head robbins...getting tossed 5 minutes after being called out on strikes. that leaves the WT with grandstrand to catch, and no backup. talk about your "look at me" players on this team...the guy has 11 rbi, 4 of them in one game...shut up, bat, catch, play the game...and quit getting ejected...oh, yeah, and don't bump the umpires again...brilliant

The pitches behind and at Banks were intentional. What's disappointing is the WTs didn't retaliate. The game was over by the fifth inning, so why not protect your player and send a message to Florence that throwing at your guys won't be tolerated and will come with a response? Instead, the WTs let the Florence pitcher have target practice with a WT hitter and the Florence hitters could dig in so comfortably that one of them hit for the cycle. And I wonder when the manager is going to start taking some fo the blame for this team's play. The guy must be made of teflon.

i would have retaliated, backing up my teammate. of course, i wasn't a part of the team that this teammate let down for two weeks, either. while he is back, word is that he isn't completely back, nor completely welcome yet, but some of the vets on the squad. manager told them he's back and that should be the end of it. last night's episode may be the end of the issue now--all square, he turned back on teammates, teammates turned back on him. hopefully, done deal.

it's time for these 20-somethings to act like adults and take responsibility for their own play. laurent's an adventure, sutton's asleep, sidick can't hit anymore, parker's a liability, grandstrand makes super plays then misses ones trying to look super, psomas sure can hit, robbins can't keep his cool. then, we get to the pitchers who are still here....

How can you enjoy the game if all you do is bitch about minor things. If all you do is watch for mistakes and mild errors how can you have time to watch the game? Ernie Banks has a filthy mouth and a very poor attitude. He thinks because now that he is back and started off with a couple home runs he is the king. I got news for you. He can't hold a candle to players like Granny. At least he likes to entertain as well as play.
