Bullpen help on horizon?

I was unable to listen to all of Friday night's game at Traverse City, so I don't know if this was mentioned by Radio Randy during the broadcast: According to the Atlantic League web site and Lancasteronline.com, the Wild Things have re-acquired relief pitcher Joe D'Alessandro from the Lancaster Barnstormers of the independent Atlantic League.

This, I think, completes the earlier trade that sent D'Alessandro to Lancaster for future considerations.

The Atlantic League is in the midst of its all-star break, and Lancaster took advantage of the stoppage to bring in two former major leaguer relief pitchers, including Antonio Alfonseca. D'Alessandro, who was 1-1 with a 4.43 ERA, was one of the two pitchers dropped from the roster. D'Alessandrto had given up 22 hits in 22 1/3 innings.

With Washington last year, D'Alessandro was 3-2 with 4 saves and a 2.52 ERA in 20 games.

Chris, if this is true, 1. who do you see the Wild Things getting rid of and 2. will Peterson remain the closer with D'Allessandro throwing the 8th and Lucas the 7th?

Those are three pretty strong relievers (by Frontier League standards) at the back end of the bullpen

I see Peterson staying the closer with D'Alessandro being given a shot to close on days when Peterson is not available. First though, D'Alessandro needs to be signed. You have to say the odd player out at this point appears to be Winterhalter, only because he's pitched in only one game.

Another four-run comeback, another late loss by the bullpen.

D'Alessandro joins team as does Banks. Winterhalter released.

I'm betting Chris Raniere going on 14-day injured list...

Ernie Banks is back and will not be going anywhere. The Wild Things know better than to piss off the black community. They want to keep that free money for their phony grass next year. Letting Ernie go will be bye-bye to the money.
Franni may be dumb but she is not stupid. If the Wild Things go back on their promise to the blacks there will be hell to pay and they know it.
If I could be anything I wanted to be right now it would be a black man and a Democrat! Life would be great. As things stand now, being white, male, and under 35, I am the most discriminated against person in
the U.S. WE are the ones paying for that phony grass only because we have no input into the matter of how our tax money is spent.. If the blacks yelled loud enough about NOT wanting that stuff, then the entire thing would be scrapped!

Note to Mark Mason: Don't pitch Hempel. You lose every time you do. Oh, I'm sorry. According to the above comment, you were too busy trying not to piss off the black community Saturday to notice who was pitching for you.

I'll be the third, Bob you are truly a piece of work. Obuma you suck, this blog was going so well before you said your two cents. Banks wont be back long if he starts with his attitude he had before he was suspended. If I were Mason I'd be trying to find a way to get him out ASAP. The team was so much better without him (and no thats not a racist comment Jamal, look at the stats)

Trade Banks for a legit 3rd baseman/ starting pitcher and put Psomas Back at 1st.

Come on Ross and Mason make it happen

Wow, what a difference in the pitching the past 2 games. Last night, continuing the trend in Wild Things' losses, they issued 9 walks/hit batsmen, and 2 wild pitches. Ugly. I'd have to say that Heimpel is the main occupant of the pitching doghouse at the moment.

Today, whoa! 3 walks, no hit batsmen, and 1 wild pitch. They didn't give it away to a first place team, and see what happens? Hats off to McCullough, Lucas, and Edwards, holding Kalamazoo to just 1 run even though the leadoff hitter managed to reach base 5 times. D'ellasandro is a welcome addition to the improving bullpen. Now if we could just get more consistent pitching from the starting rotation....

Nice game by Ernie Banks. 2-4, a run scored and 1 RBI. Hopefully the rest will do Psomas some good. The Wild Things best hope at this point would be to try and get to .500 by the all-star break, and then make a run at the playoffs in the second half. And yes, the next post by "Jim Mora" will actually be done by me for some light-hearted comical effect.

Come on Franni, if you can’t take the heat then get the hell out of the damn kitchen!
Chris, if she FINALLY does give you an interview, which I doubt, please don’t go easy on this despotic attorney! The Wild Things sure haven’t given your, or the O-R, much respect the last few seasons. Time to take the gloves off. The Wild Things are NOT God’s gift to Washington, PA. They are nothing but ‘takers’
from the public while giving nothing in return. Bob Gregg being the key enabler.

While we are talking about Franni Williams

Consol has been around in one form or another for over 100 years. Consol has NOT always been the most benevolent employer as history proves. Consol required the minors that worked for them to supply all their own equipment they needed to work AND to purchase them from the company store. This practice is now largely illegal in the Unites States.
Annie Franni still requires us WT employees to buy clothing items from the “company store” as her employees have NO other source for them. We get a discount but SHE should provide all clothing
items we need to do our job.
She screws the taxpayers for a new field and us, her employees, for every dime possible. Most of the people working here don’t even make minimum wage due to some sort of legal technicality about seasonal employment. I won’t be back here next year.
The old Consol Coal Company is gone but its spirit lives on in the heart of Franni Williams.

"One of the people that makes River City special is "roaming" P.A. announcer Randy Moehlman. There was a story on the FL web site this week about his exploits - I got to see him in action, clipboard in hand, pumping up the level of excitement for Rascals' fans who braved the hottest day of the season. His frenetic style was infectious. I also got to meet "Bubblegum" Bob Griffith, who sits right behind the first base dugout. He was pointed out to me by his daughter, Dawn Gerard, who sang the National Anthem Saturday. Bob earned his nickname by bringing a bucket of bubblegum to every game and tossing individually-wrapped pieces to Rascals' players as they come off the field. He had to be the happiest guy in the ballpark."

From the blog of "The Scout" on the Frontier League website. Since Difabio isn't there to announce half the batters anyway, maybe the Wild Things should make him a traveling PA guy. I'm sure he can't do worse since he messes up enough just sitting in his little booth.

Here's the problem with Saturday night's loss (losing 2-run lead in the ninth).

Tonight, the Kings are outplaying, outhitting, outpitching the Wild Things. SO, barring another 4-run comeback, the Wild Things will end up losing 2 out of 3 to the 1st place Kings, dropping a game in the standings instead of picking up a game...

Gotta win all the games you have in your hand...and steal a few from the other guy...

Well, I hate to interrupt the catfights in here, but here's some thoughts on tonight's GAME. A 2nd consecutive bad outing by Nick Peterson. I wouldn't be shocked to see D'ellasandro audition for the closer's role soon. The Kings must have taken some great notes tonight, because although Zach Groh mowed them down his first time through the order, he was battered the second time around.
I thought Aaron Fuhrman did a nice job in relief. He did give up the 6th run, but he did stop the bleeding in the 5th with runners on the corners and only 1 out. I wouldn't chase this guy out of town just yet.

On the plus side, stellar defense this evening by Brett Grandstrand and yes, even Grant Psomas. Here's hoping Psomas' clutch homer will be the start of a new hot streak. Uncharacteristic bad night at the plate for Jacob Dempsey, 0-4 including stranding the go ahead run at second in the 9th, as did Ernie Banks.

This team still lacks a legitimate #1 starting pitcher. Maybe I've been spoiled by watching Aaron Ledbetter the last few years. Come on, Ross Vecchio, there's got to be one out there somewhere!
