Florence free-for-all

If you're not listening to the Wild Things' game at Florence tonight – and with Florence leading 9-0 in the fourth inning, nobody can blame you for not listening - there was a benches-clearing situation in the sixth inning.

After Ernie Banks hit a long home run to left centerfield to make it 9-2, Florence manager Toby Rumfield took exception to Banks' reaction to the homer and got into a confrontation with Wild Things first-base coach Jon Cahill. According to Florence radio (I'll let you tell me what Radio Randy's version was), Rumfield took two swings at Cahill as the benches emptied.

Rumfield was ejected, as was Cahill and Washington pitcher Andy Schindling.

There have been hard feelings between these teams dating back to the second game of a doubleheader in mid-June when Florence was stealing bases with a 10-run lead during its last at-bat.

Early in tonight's game, Florence's Elvis Andrus was hit by a pitch from Craig Snipp, then stared down the Washington pitcher as he walked to first base. Later, Andrus scored and collided with catcher Alan Robbins and the two had words.

The ejections of Cahill and Schindling gives the Wild Things six ejections for the year. According to Frontier League rules, when a team has five ejections the manager will be suspended for three games. At least I think it's three games. It might be five games. I don't know if the manager gets suspended for any additional games when the ejections total reaches six.

Grrr...had the game on the radio, but I was upstairs reading to my son. Missed why Radio Randy said Andy Shindling got ejected. Wish my radio had "tivo". Guess I'll read about it in the O-R tomorrow.

Schindling might have done nothing to get thrown out. My guess is somebody on the Wild Things' bench said something that the umpires felt warranted an ejection, but they didn't know was doing the chirping. As a result, the ejected the starting pitcher from the previous night because he wouldn't be playing anyway. Jim Schaly is umpiring this game, and called Tuesday night's game, so he knew Schindling pitched the previous game.

I heard that Ernie Banks yelled something about "we have a better announcer than you do" at the Florence dugout as he trotted toward first base. Toby Rumfield went into a near homicidal rage and all hell broke loose.

I figured Banks would be the star tonight, just didn't expect it to be Demetrius Banks. This guy mowed down our lineup like Lucy striking out Charlie Brown. I was really surprised that Mason left Craig Snipp in there to continue taking the pounding. Oh well, let's blame it on bus fatigue and tomorrow is a new day. Glad to hear Michael Parker extended his hitting streak to 24 games in his last at-bat.

Glad I wasn't at that game. Fight between coaches? What's going on? Why is Banks still on the same field, bench, or state as the Wild Things? Get a clue and get him out of there! No one is worth that much. Chemistry killer.

No, because he is an attitude case.

Now everyone should understand why he isn't in affiliated ball. Talent he definitely has, but no one wants him on their team. Grow up big fella or go home!

This isnt the first time that Rumfield has gone into a homicidal rage. Last year against So. Illinois he did the same thing going after SI's first base coach Santana when he reacted to a Jones home run. I saw the video on youtube. The league gave him a slap on the wrist last time, will they do anything this time? Time for this guy to go. It's a dangerous situation waiting to happen.

Don't know why everybody is bitching about Banks. Seems all he did was hit a ball about 450 feet. The proven loose cannon/idiot manager of Florence is the one who started the crap. He yelled at Banks, left the dugout, decked the first-base coach and got ejected.

Banks, well, he didn't get ejected and went back to playing first base. Maybe if some of Banks' teammates would have shown up and not struck out 16 times the team might have had a chance to win.

WHY do you idiots stick up for Banks? He is nothing but a cancer in the clubhouse. The worst teamate you could ever hope not to have. He has not one friend on the team those of you who praise him, Would you take him in your house as a host family? Talent aside, He's a BUM.

How about those Wild Things??!! Star of the game? The field turf that enabled the game to resume after a hard downpour! (put that in just for you, Bob Gregg..ha ha) Josh Blackstock made a huge play with a diving tag of Florence's Armando Gil, trying to steal second in the 8th. Critical play!
Even the new guys are making a difference, great!

And how about that Ernie Banks, folks? 4/4, a homer, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored and even a stolen base! This guy scoops up a lot of low throws as well, game after game. Funny, you don't notice any teammates hating him when he hits those 450 footers.
Is it more than ironic that he's getting a lot of hate posts on this topic, and he's the only one involved last night that DIDN'T get suspended?! Not surprising, considering all the prejudiced remarks made on this blog in May. Ernie, you can stay at my place anytime. We can discuss how cool Bill D. sounds when you come to bat (couldn't resist)!

HUGE, HUGE, HUGE relief effort by Nick Peterson to douse the flames in the bottom of the 9th. Biggest save of the year. Come on Wild Things, let's get over the hump!

Florence comes to CEP to close out the season during Labor Day weekend. Should be interesting.

Chiizu wa kimitachi no naka ni iru!
