First move of second half

The Wild Things have made one roster move as they begin the second half of the season. Left-handed pitcher Aaron Fuhrman (1-2, 7.66) has been released and outfielder Matt Cotellese (pictured) has been signed.

Fuhrman was a pitcher the Wild Things had expected to make the starting rotation this year after he advanced to Class A in the Tigers system by age 20. However, he struggled from the beginning of camp and never found a role on the staff.

Cotellese (6-1, 200) is from Boyertown and played collegiately at West Chester University, where he was a two-time NCAA Division first team All-American. He played center field for the Golden Rams.

This spring, Cotellese was named the PSAC East Division Player of the Year for the second year in a row and led West Chester to the Division II World Series. He batted .427 with a school-record 25 doubles, 11 home runs, 71 RBI and 14 stolen bases. His numbers as a junior were almost identical, as he batted .415 with 19 doubles, 12 home runs, 58 RBI and 21 stolen bases. He played right field as a junior.

Cotellese is a right-handed batter.

In another roster move just released by the FL, the Midwest Sliders have signed former Wild Things left-handed reliever Dan Horvath.

Fuhrman's bloated E.R.A. was mainly due to his horrendous starts. In relief, he was somewhere around 3.40. Hang in there, Aaron, and I hope another team picks you up. Glad to hear Dan Horvath is back in the league, and good luck to him.

Big Ernie comes through yet again tonight, with the game winning RBI on his 3rd inning homer. How in the world could the Marlins release this guy after having 51 RBIs in high rookie ball last year?

Excellent game from Schindling, no earned runs, 4 hits, lots of groundouts, etc. And good job to pitch himself out of a 5th inning jam. Good job by the bullpen as well, with Peterson dousing the fire in the 9th (although beaning in a run). Evansville has done their homework on WT hitters 4-9 though, as they went just 2-22.

By Radio Randy's description tonight, Chris Sidick made yet another great catch to save a run in the 2nd inning. I witnessed him make 2 fantastic catches last week at CEP. Again, it doesn't show up in the box score, and sometimes not in the paper, but his struggles at the plate have not had an effect on his defense.

Another dominant effort by an Evansville reliever tonight, Kyle Dahman. He came on with the bases loaded in the 5th and nobody out, and fanned Psomas, Sutton and Robbins. 3 innings of scoreless relief. Can the WT kidnap him or Ben Paxton before they leave town? Go Wild Things!

Cotellese is just another WT experiment. They will try anybody now. This guy has no chance of making a difference here.

I can see it now.Rochelle is a chemistry killer,that's why he's leaving.
I willing to bet he discovered there is more to life than baseball. He probally has bigger and better things to do with his life. That is if the rumor is true.
If it is then Good Luck.

And just how would you know, Mr. Scout. Ever see the guy play? I'm willing to bet you haven't. Just another blowhard who will say anything on a message board without any first-hand knowledge. Go back to eating your doughnuts.

I am still a skeptic about the WT resurgence. While they did win 8 of 9. 5 of those came against Evansville.Let's see how the next few series play out first.Hope it is the real thing and not a fluke.

Matt Cotellese was a quality player! Once more, it is a shame that he did not get to perform. If he did half of what he did for West Chester, he would have to be a plus! The Wild dThings are trying everythiong to wi, but hopefully it's not at the expense of developing some other players. I know of the payroll and sttuff, but come on!!!

UNBELIEVABLE!!! Did matt cotellese even have an at bat. I saw him and/or followed CAL's games and he was always a "very good player." At least Busti had a shot before he was released. With all the money offered, it's a wonder that anyone puts up this treatment!

what's unbelievable?

The team has finally gotten some starting pitching. The bullpen has kept from exploding on all but one game in the past three weeks. The bats continue to produce And the team has now won 3 in a row, six of seven and 11 of their last 13.

WHY would you think that somebody who was signed as a temporary fill-in should be afforded somebody's spot on the roster long term?

Matt Cotellese has an elbow injury. He might have been damaged goods when he arrived in Washington. From what I was told, by more than one person, he likely hurt the elbow during his workout for the Wild Things or another pro team because the first time he tossed a ball around in Evansville he complained of elbow pain. It's hard to believe somebody would blow out their elbow simply by playing toss.
