Zaragoza gets league honor

Zaragoza
Wild Things pitcher Ernesto Zaragoza was named Monday the Frontier League Pitcher of the Week.

In only his second start with Washington, Zaragoza threw a complete-game shutout Saturday against the Traverse City Beach Bums. Zaragoza threw a five-hitter, walked only one and struck out eight. The win improved Zaragoza's record to 2-0.

A 22-year-old right-hander, Zaragoza was the Wild Things' second selection (third pick of the second round) at the Frontier League draft held in late April. He was released in the final round of cuts during spring training, then re-signed in time to make a start during Washington's last road trip. Zaragoza pitched the Wild Things to a 6-4 victory over Gateway in his Washington debut.

A Fontana, Calif., native, Zaragoza did not play professional baseball last year but spent 2013 with White Sands in the Pecos League and the 2011 and '12 seasons in the Seattle Mariners' system.

Zaragoza is the second Washington player to be named Pitcher of the Week. Last season, Troy Marks received the honor. Marks is currently pitching for the Kane County Cougars, an affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Class A Midwest League.

Ernie did pitch last year... He pitched (and hit because pitchers bat) in the Pecos League for Roswell.

Another loss 11-1. Does anyone think Bobby B is the guy to turn this team around? Parkersburg Wild Things count on it.
