That's rare
The Wild Things' 4-0 shutout Thursday night over River City was a rarity in that it happened in a park, T.R. Hughes Ballpark, that is designed for offense. Lots of offense.
With its 299-foot right-field line, towering "Dog Wall" and short right-centerfield power alley with a low fence, T.R. Hughes Ballpark is a left-handed hitter's paradise.
But Washington lefty pitcher Kyle Helisek (2-1) and reliever Richie Mirowski (has anybody checked his numbers?) blanked River City to give the Wild Things their first series win and two-game winning streak of the season.
Was that shutout of River City on its home field rare? Yes, it was.
It was only the second time in the last 126 home games (both regular season and playoffs) that River City has been shut out. That dates back to Aug. 9, 2012. The only other time the Rascals were blanked at home during that span was in the season opener this year by the Normal CornBelters.
