Keep on pitchin'

According to WTRF-TV in Wheeling, W.Va., Wild Things pitcher and Wheeling native Justin Edwards (pictured) will continue to pitch after the Frontier League season ends. It was reported that Edwards will join the York Revolution of the independent Atlantic League after the Wild Things' finale Sunday.

York's pitching coach is former Wild Things manager Mark Mason.

The Atlantic League's regular season runs through Sept. 18.

Edwards is unlikely to return to the Wild Things next year because he will exceed the Frontier League's age limit. He is one of three Wild Things pitchers who will age out. The others are Kevin Hammons and Davis Bilardello.

Edwards is currently second in the Frontier League in ERA at 2.04. He will make one more start with the Wild Things during their season-ending road trip that begins tonight at Lake Erie.

Pitching has always been considered the Name of the Game in baseball. The lack of a hitting instructor has really hurt the Wild Things. For some unknown reason it seems that Darin Everson apparently feels he was the batting coach. Who was the brilliant person that brought MR. Everson here in the first place. Why was WH so bitter against Everson from the get-go. He has let it be known for the entire season how much he hates the man and wants him fired. WH better watch out because his back side is on the line also.

Reading the article in the O-R today about the game time change back to 7:05P. I think that is a good move.
How could the management ever had made the decision to start games at 6:35P based on a small survey they made by mail, and on their web site? Sure hope the vacuum sweeper pretty well cleans out the dunderheads that engineered this season’s disaster.

Of course everyboby will blame me for pointing out that Wulf threw a wild pitch to end tonight's game. So, why are you blaming Ochoa for that?
I suppose it's wrong because I said it
Fire away! I care less what you say.

Chris:
Nice article about the attendence drop the last 4 years.
I wonder when John Switek left (booted out or whatever)?
It seems with someone else at the head of daily operations, things went to pot.
I wonder if the new change includes bringing John back?

There is a zero percent chance of John Swiatek returning.

I would say there is a zero chance of the Wild Things management turning things around without John Swiatek or someone very similiar who understands marketing.

as the whimpy things continue to waste good, even great, starting pitching, flopping to the finish line, it occured to me: just how bad is it?

mr. do-he's boys are 4 of the top 18 pitchers in the league in era. that's right 4 washington starters--edwards, hall, barnes and montoya--have top 20 eras in the league, all a very respectable 3.65 or better, edwards at 2.16.

meanwhile, mr. don't-he (mr. smily) has just 4 batters in the top 67 in average in the league.

don't take a rocket scientist to figure out where the problem has been, is, and, barring smily's exit, will continue to be...

Chris, congrats on being named writer of the year in the Frontier League along with the O-R paper of the year and Randy Gore broadcaster of the year. I'll bet Bob Gregg is jealous.
I noticed that Evansville won groundskeeper of the year where they have NATURAL GRASS.
I wonder if Washington could ever win groundskeeper of the year with TP turf?
Maybe they will start a new category, vacuum cleaner keeper of the year.

Jealous, Natural Grass? Why would I be jealous?

I am very proud of the work Randy does for us and for the Wild Things. He is one of the hardest-working, best-prepared broadcasters in the business. He is very deserving of the recognition of the Frontier League coaches, General Managers and other media members.

Mark & I both enjoy working with Randy and are absolutely thrilled at today's news that he had been named Broadcaster of the Year for the second time.
