Barnes is the 4th

There's not much for the Wild Things to play for these days. The playoffs are only a pipe dream and a winning season seems unlikely.

Personal goals, such as players getting a contract offer from a Major League Baseball organization, are about all that remain. For two pitchers, that goal has been reached during the current six-game road trip.

Washington starting pitcher Casey Barnes (pictured) signed a contract with the Philadelphia Phillies organization Sunday night, 48 hours after reliever Mark Williams was picked up by Milwaukee.

Barnes was second in the Frontier League with a 2.34 ERA. A right-hander out of Kansas Wesleyan University, Barnes had a 5-5 record in his rookie season. Released by Traverse City during spring training, Barnes was signed by the Wild Things prior to the start of the season and quickly became their most reliable starting pitcher.

"We’re thrilled with the success Casey has had with us, and we hope it continues with the Phillies,” Wild Things manager Darin Everson said in a press release.

If you know Barnes, you can't help but feel good for him. In 10 years of covering the Wild Things, I think Barnes is the most excitable and appreciative player I've met. He was genuinely thrilled to have a chance to pitch for the Wild Things and seemed to enjoy every moment of being a professional baseball player.

Barnes is the fourth Wild Things player (all pitchers) to have their contract purchased this season, which speaks volumes about the job pitching coach Mark Dewey has done. The Wild Things also lead the Frontier League with 40 quality starts (at least six innings pitched and no more than three earned runs allowed).

"It says a lot about Mark Dewey,” Barnes said. “Mark is a great guy, both as a coach and as a role model. ... I just hope I can find someone like him to work with in the Phillies organization.”

Barnes will join the Phillies' rookie-level affiliate in the Gulf Coast League.

Former Wild Things pitcher Vidal Nuno was recently promoted in the New York Yankees' system from the short-season New York-Penn League to low-Class A Charleston (S.C.). With Staten Island, Nuno was 5-0 with one save and an 0.72 ERA in eight games. He struck out 29 and walked only three in 25 innings.

The general feeling is that Mr. Smiley should go.
I wonder if John Russel (Mr. Motivation) is available?

Have you ever noticed how much John Russell looks like Steve Zavacky, oe vise-versa?
Just saying.
As for Everson, it is as obvious as horse do-do on a tennis court that he has to go. So, why not
do it now and let Bobby B run the team the rest of the season? Show us fans a little token of good intent by
dumping this gut right now. It just might a message to the next sucker er….manager!

can someone tell me the logic of the following?

kevyn feiner is on second with two out and the team's rbi leader at the plate. rivera already has two hits and two rbi in the game.

and feiner tries to steal third, and failed. why? what benefit, with two out? out of control...that's why.

what do you know? a win after blowing the 3-0 lead. edwards deserved the win but grife blows lead and gets it. wulf tried to give it away, walking a .183 hitter on 4 pitches to put the tying run on base with one out.

#1 Feiner wasnt trying to steal third, it was a passed ball by the catcher that he thought he could take third on, beeing agressive like hes supposed to, the catcher just made a good play...

#2 Wulf didnt walk the damn 9 batter on 4 pitches, 2 of them were strikes that the umpire called balls becuase hes horse poo....

..but yall on this blog wouldnt understand a damn thing about baseball because youve never strapped them up.....before you start assuming things, get the facts and understand the game....

Hey my friend..If the umpire called them strikes then they are strikes! You might not think so but nobody really cares what you think..the umpire might not always be right BUT--he is still the umpire and you are not.

out trying to steal third, passed ball, wild pitch, third out of the inning 2-5...with the team's leading rbi guy in the batter's box.

"wulf didnt walk the damn 9 batter on 4 pitches, 2 of them were strikes that the umpire called balls becuase hes horse poo...."
wulf walked the .183 hitter on four bitches. they were all balls because the umpire said they were balls.

and i have them, and i've strapped them up. and don't have to be at the game to know the game.

The bus will be coming back from Evansville after tonight’s game.
We can only hope that some one with a big hook is there to fish out Everson and send
him packing. They should have done it weeks ago. Probably nobody at the WT with the stones
to do it.

Got to love Anonymous comments about other people not having the "stones" to do something.

The people that use a name to say anything on this blog just have to have a lot of stones. Anybody that uses their name is subject to so much BS from other users that it's not worth it. Of course the folks that throw the BS always call themselves Anonymous. So, what is your point? You allow it to happen

The point is, somebody who doesn't have the "stones" to put his/her name to a comment accused another person of not having the "stones" to fire someone. If you're going to say somebody is gutless, at least have the guts yourself to put your name on the accusation.

The point shoud be, why use your name when you allow that person the be ridiculed by name on your blog? The ones that do the ridiculing aways get away with using Anonymous. I never see them being called out!
I don't blame any one that refuses to use their name. Actually, it's the smart thing to do.

Hard to call out someone when they remain Anonymous.

We can call you out for allowing it.

Wait! I'm confused.
Should one use his/her name, or not? Or, does it depend on what they say whether or not they should use their name?
Or, do you use your name if you say something nice and not use your name if you don't say something nice.
What difference does it make? Given the rules, there is no correct way to post here without somebody being a smart aleck about it. is there?
Ima Fraid or, should be I Anonymous?
Hard to decide which is proper without subjecting yourself to some sort of criticism!

Unless I am sitting next to you at your computer and forcing you to do so, then there is no way a person can be made to put their name to a comment on a blog. That's not the way the Internet works. Anyone can sit in front of their keyboard and say they are Johnny Bench or Bill Smith. There's no easy way to prove they are or not who they claim to be.

Talk about stones. Does anybody have the stones to meet the bus and show what sort of an idiot you are by telling Everson he is, and has been, doing a great job the last two years?
If you do I’ll put your name on this blog and personally drive you to Mayview.
