Interview with the new boss

Had a chance this week to talk with new Wild Things managing director Todd Marlin, pictured, for a story that will appear in a future edition of the O-R. Here's a few quick things that came out of the interview:

- The new boss said two of his biggest points of emphasis will be ticket sales (adding more people to the ticket staff) and improving customer service.

- The list of potential managers has been trimmed to "three or four candidates." It should be wrapped up by late next week. More than 40 coaches have inquired about the opening.

- Though he helped put together the team when he was general manager of Bridgeport of the Atlantic League, Marlin will not handle that job with the Wild Things. Ross Vecchio and the manager will continue to put the baseball team together.

- Marlin said the Wild Things have a good reputation in independent baseball. "It's more on the business end. They have a fantastic logo and a great fan base. Throughout the industry they have a great reputation."

- He mentioned that he wants to focus on the entertainment value for the fans and keep the product fresh, though he didn't offer any ideas that I haven't heard or seen already."

So, does any one know if the ownership has found a replacement for Dutch yet? It has to be a hard position to fill, I thought Dutch did a wonderful job between innings. It made the games worth coming to because the play on the field sure didn't.

Just curious,... I'm a season ticket holder and I'm a little hesitant to get the package again. Even with this new guy and his "promises".

For God's sake, it's not like you are tied up and forced to go to the games. If you are that unhappy, stay the heck home. You have that right as a consumer. If you went to a restaurant and didn't like the food, you wouldn't go back and if you did, you'd be foolish.

If you really want to get the Wild Things attention, STOP going to the games. If enough of you do that they will feel it where it hurts the most, in their wallet.

Well the owners & people who work there need some way to hear feedback from the fans. This blog can serve as an outlet for fans. If the owners never hear the fans' concerns, they'll never know what they might want to improve (or what they might want to keep the way it is).

The point was that these people said they ENJOYED what was going on at the games. They were actually complimenting people who worked there & have now been let go. They were compliments to the old staff.

Honestly, if you want to let the owners and management know how you feel, write a letter, sign your name and give them your contact info.

I highly doubt if they even read this blog or if they do, I doubt that they take an anonymous post very seriously.

Well, that is not really a very good analogy. If there were more than one “ professional” baseball team in town it may be a valid comparison. However, the Wild Things are the only so-called “professional” baseball team so there is no competition for them to deal with. Hence, their arrogance. These folks take your attendance at their games to mean that you just love what they are offering and therefore take the fans for granted. Up until a couple of years ago this strategy worked very well for them. Since then the shine has worn off the penny and the fans have begun to see just how amateur their “professional” baseball really is.
I am NOT knocking the players because they give it all they have every game. The management should back off the heavy emphasis on the “professional” and “Baseball the way it should be played”, or words to that effect, that make it looks like something it is not! If I bought a can of corn that said 16 ounces of corn and, when I opened the can it had 2 ounces of corn and 14 ounces of fluid, I would have been fooled by the label and I would be pissed off. Well, the Wild Things should be more careful about how they label their ‘product’.

I love to watch baseball at any level of play. I am NOT “wild about the things”. I could not care less if they win or lose. I pay to watch a game not to be “in the tank” for the home team. However, most people in this area are extremely fickle when it comes to “their” teams. The love them when they win and turn their backs on them when they lose. Anybody remember the 2009 Pittsburgh Steelers? The Wild Things management are the most narcissistic group of business individuals I’ve EVER had to deal with – they do NO wrong! If you don’t believe it, just ask them. They will be the first ones to toot their own horn – LOUDLY.

BTW Anonymous, in case you haven’t noticed, the people have in large part, been voting with their wallets! I can just hear ol’ Bill DiFabio now; “Tonight’s attendance 4,999 – another sellout. Give yourselves a big hand” Oh yeah, “That’s includes the 4,000 no-shows”

Uh, Ron, "“Baseball the way it should be played” has not been a Wild Things slogan since 2002. If I were the Wild Things, I would refuse to sell a ticket to Ron Wilson, the most narcissistic blog commenter in baseball. He does no wrong. He knows it all, just ask him. He rambles on and on and on longer than Bill DiFabio, bitching and moaning and complaining about everybody and everything. What a miserable old fool, with emphasis on fool. I feel sorry for anybody who has to sit within two rows of Mr. Pleasant. No, you know who I really fell sorry for? His wife.

Looks to me as if Wayne got all his buddies to write something negative about Ron Wilson rather than address the issues. If the WT were doing so many things right then why is their attendance falling like a rock? Other than the outdated slogan, what was incorrect about his last post? If any of you have ever tried to communicate with these front office people you would them friendly and really nice IF, you were telling them how good they are. If, by chance, you don’t happen to agree with their every move you find their true nature. They are arrogant, they are not open to suggestions, and they are so blinded by their egos that you are branded as an “ a** h***” if you dare question anything!
I know Ron Wilson and I know that about 80 to 90 per cent of his points are, in my opinion, valid. He may be very blunt about how he presents things but he never hides his identity. If you are going to attack him you should at least be up front about it and use your real name also. It the issues, not personalities.

Had the misfortune of sitting near Mr. Wilson at a game last season and all he did for 3 hours was complain about a hole in his cup and he was sure it was a conspiracy by the Wildthings and his cup was intentionally sabotaged. You know, the old "Conspiracy Theory"! This man totally ruined our family night at the ballpark and ever since I have asked for tickets far from his area. All my daughter kept saying was, "Why is that man so loud and mean, he keeps yelling at everybody, daddy". Maybe one of his own suggestions could be, treat others as you wish to be treated!

Apology to all.
After reading all the responses to my post I will not be participating in the “Wild About Things” blog in future. I sincerely apologize to anyone I have offended. I REALLY mean that.
Thanks to those that have supported me and also to those that have not agreed with anything I say. My intend has not been to anger anyone here but just to express my views. Most of you don’t have any idea of what has really transpired between the Wild Things management and myself. I have no intention of carrying it any further. Therefore you cannot accurately judge what has motivated me. Some see me as a bitter old man – I am not that at all. I am very outspoken by nature – that is a fault that I will attempt to correct.
I have ALWAYS been “up-front” with all of you AND the Wild Things. I always sign my post with my real name. The Wild Things have expressed their appreciation to me for doing that. However, most of my detractors on this blog have not extended the same courtesy to me when making uncomplimentary remarks about me as a person. No matter what you think of my remarks, your lack of extending the courtesy of using your real name shows both your lack of upbringing, and your true character.
For those that think I’m just “blowing smoke”, it might be interesting for you to note that Todd Marlin has requested to meet with me for ideas on how the Wild things can get back on track.
I know that I have “resigned” from this blog before however, it’s for real this time. If you don’t think so, just wait and see. So, if you have any more remarks to make about me just go ahead and post them but, don’t expect a reply.
I wish you all well. Good luck and enjoy the baseball season. I am not angry with anybody, just tired of cheap shot experts that are too cowardly to tell me who they are. I hope the Wild Things have a successful 2010.
Chris, thanks for providing those who are interested in the Wild Things a place where they can express their thoughts
Ron Wilson
BTW: For the person who made the remark about a hole in a cup. You are correct. I did say those things. Anybody who even thought it was anything other than in jest must have an IQ of minus 3. Some of you wouldn’t know a joke if it hit you square in the face.

The guy who claims to have sat next to me is a liar. There is no place next to me for him to sit in. Typical "cheap shot"@

Just couldn't resist that last chance to label someone a liar or worse yet, an idiot. My young daughter did not understand your "so called humor" so I ass u me you are labeling her along with everyone else! Shame when an angry old man leaves such an impression on someone so young. I am sure those being berated by you that night also shared in your "humor". You sir are the idiot, not my child or the many others that have had to put up with your constant bashing in the name of humor! I for one am extremely ecstatic you are deciding to be SILENT!

Goodbye and good riddance to Ron Wilson. Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Clause!!

Unfortunately, we all know you won't be able to stay away from the blog. The only thing you have left in your miserable existence is showing up here, ranting and raving about about how you were wronged by the Wild Things! ROFLMAO!!!

I, for one, would love to be a fly on the wall during your meeting with Todd Marlin, although I highly doubt he called you for advise on how to run his business. He was probably told that you were the biggest pain in the butt, and the biggest loudmouth, in the ballpark. I wonder if he is meeting with other season ticket holders. I for one, am yet to get the same call.

In reference to the "hole in your cup", I have found, from following this blog, that every time you are called on the carpet you revert to the same old excuse..."I was only joking". That excuse has run it's course and has gotten quite old.

Please prove to us you are a man of your word and stay away from the blog, and why you're at it, CEP would be a better place without you and your wife.

Please Ron, prove me wrong!

BTW...blame Chris Dugan for all the anonymous postings on his blog, not the bloggers. As long as there is an option to post anonymously, it will be used. It is that way on every blog on the internet, not just here on the Wild Things blog. Without the anonymous option there would be no one to chat with other than yourself, Ron. Chris is smart enough to know that if he REQUIRES a sign in and a real name, that the blog would die a quick and rather boring death.

One true danger of the world we live in is that people can jump on a blog and post whatever they want about another person/group/organization without any proof that what they are posting is true. This is the case whether they post using their true name, a pen name or anonymously.

Another danger of the world we live in is the ease of access to information, of a private nature, on the internet. I post anonymously, because I know that if I sign my name, I am but a simple Google search away from having information on my family, including my address, phone number and even directions to my house available to whomever comes across this blog. I DO NOT post anonymously because I am a coward, as you suggest, I post anonymously because I do not want to expose my family to undue risk.

Chris, I am sorry for being one of the posters that have run Ron off. Without him this blog will either die off due to lack of interest or maybe, just maybe, it will turn into what I hope it was originally meant to be...a blog to discuss BASEBALL!!!

I am truly sorry for rambling on, sort of "Ron Wilsonesque", but I promise that all future posts will be short and to the point (baseball)!

Not only are the cheap shot artist coming out of the woodwork like the vermin they are. But now the are dragging Ron's wife into it when she has, as far as I know, ever said a thing. When you start that sort of stuff your are showing that Ron was right in his assessment of you.
Ron's remarks were directed at the WT management and not at any of you, or your families. Take your daughter to the daughter circus and how about YOU stay from the ballpark?
Ron apologized to all of you, now you decide that rather like a human being that you will join the kick a man when he is down.
Since Chris hasn't removed his post then they must not be too inapproiate. Why don't you start acting like a human? You are a rather unlikable person yourself.

In reference to the 1:58pm post...

"Not only are the cheap shot artist coming out of the woodwork like the vermin they are."...

I did not just come out of the woodwork. I've been posting in reference to Ron Wilson for quite awhile now. The reason I haven't posted much lately is because it's the off season and there's not too much baseball stuff going on and Ron has been pretty quiet too.

"But now the are dragging Ron's wife into it when she has, as far as I know, ever said a thing."...

I DID NOT drag Ron's wife into it. She is just guilty by association. It's a safe bet that since they come to the games together then they have 2 seats. Then it's a safe bet that if Ron stopped coming to the games, that they would give up both seats, not just one! Think before you start pecking on your keyboard!

"The guy who claims to have sat next to me is a liar. There is no place next to me for him to sit in. Typical "cheap shot"@"...

Ron has directed comments at anybody and everybody that has posted anything on here that in any way contradicts his beliefs. The above is just the most recent example. Also, it's interesting how Ron "retires" from the board but, still has to get the last jab in at someone who contradicts him.

He's that one guy or gal that we all know who just has to get the last word in on every conversation.

"Ron apologized to all of you, now you decide that rather like a human being that you will join the kick a man when he is down."

The sincerity of his apology is apparent in the fact that he calls a poster a liar in the last paragraph of what we can only hope is his last post!

Ron is down??? I didn't realize that. Has he fallen and can't get up?

He retired from the board. In other words he gave up fighting after he realized that the majority of posters here do not agree with his every word as if it were gospel!

"Why don't you start acting like a human? You are a rather unlikable person yourself."

Last I checked I was a human being in every sense of the word. Just because you don't like the fact that I disagree with Ron and yourself does not make me non-human.

"Since Chris hasn't removed his post then they must not be too inapproiate."...

From what I can tell, Chris only removes posts when they make accusations that border on criminal. He does not censor posts when they are just a difference of opinions.

Now do us a favor and join your buddy Ron on the retired list!
