New addition to front office?

Here is the link to a story about Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League naming a new general manager. Why is this newsworthy for this blog? Well, you'll notice that the Bluefish needed a new GM because their previous one, a guy named Todd Marlin, pictured, has left the organization to take a "similar position with the Washington (Pa.) Wild Things."

I contacted the Wild Things about this Wednesday and was told that a press release would likely be issued later in the day. Nothing was issued Wednesday, so stay tuned.

The Connecticut Post reported Nov. 26 that Marlin had resigned from the Bluefish. According to the newspaper, Marlin said he was seriously considering a new baseball opportunity closer to his hometown of Dayton, Ohio, but couldn't comment on anything.

"I really can't talk yet," Marlin said. "There are still a lot of particulars out there that have to be worked out before any announcements can be made. But I'm excited."

Before go to the Bluefish, Marlin had spent eight seasons as the general manager of the Atlantic League's Nashua Pride (1998-2005) and spent a season with the Worcester Tornados of the Can-Am League in 2006.

Read the story here.

UPDATE: From the Wild Things' press release:

Todd Marlin has been hired to be the Managing Director of the organization.

“On behalf of the ownership group, we are extremely excited to have Todd Marlin join our team as Managing Director,” said Jeff Coury, Managing Partner. “His previous minor league experience makes him the perfect fit to lead our organization, while continuing our mission of offering affordable family entertainment and with making CONSOL Energy Park a vital asset within the community in 2010 and beyond. ”

“I’m very excited to join the Wild Things’ organization,” Marlin said. “This franchise has a fantastic reputation in the baseball world, and I look forward to making the 2010 season the best season yet.”

What is the status of Ross Vechio? The press release doesn't say anything mention him at all. Did he leave the WT?

Vechio got screwed. There is no better person to run that organization than the man who basically started the franchise and kept it running for the past 8 seasons. Every idea he has had has worked for the WWT, only to be ruined by the corporate heads. This is just another inept move by the ownership. I wouldn't be surprised to seee everyone else jumping ship now. First Mason, soon it'll be Vechio Zavaky and Blaine, everyone else is already gone!!

Oh if we could go back to 2002!!!

The obvious question to be asked, the one that Anonymous asked yesterday, is what does this mean for Ross Vecchio? It simply amazes me how some organizations treat their staff. If Ross wasn't part of this decision or at least aware of the forthcoming addition, then a valuable builder of this team has been left hanging in the wind. If that is the case, what class?

Yes I am! However, I AM very sorry I insulted all the "boneheads" out there. I'm sure they would not to be associated with Wacky.
Anyway, I really meant "Meathead"
Ron "Humbug" Wilson

BTW: The Wild Things will be very happy to give you all the details if you just call and ask what is going on. They NEVER try to dodge an issue. If I really gave a crap about what was going on that is what I would do. I care as much about them as they care about me!

Make or break year 2010. Turf is on hold. If attendance does not improve, there could be a sale in the future. All things point to that very strong possibility.

I like a change in the Wild Things since a baseball person is running things.
As far as Ross goes, the players did not trust him.
Keep Wacky Steve around to mow the grass.

If only you could go back to 2002. There are about 1,000 blunders made by ownership that could be avoided. A change in ownership can only be a good thing.

December 6, 2009 at 5:10 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I give this new guy 2 months, but that may be generous. Once ownership tells him he can't spend any money he'll leave like Mr. Clipboard and the red headed guy. Plus, its pretty obvious this new guy couldn't cut it at his last job. I think the real problem with the organization is the pervy public relations guy. Could you be anymore blatant hitting on every remotely attractive girl in the park???!!!

is most of the front office already jumping ship or already gone since least season/ bc of the new director? :(..any specifics?

Mr. Clipboard found out what the Wild Things were in just a few days. Not being an idiot, he got his rear end out of there ASAP!
If this new dude had any sense at all then he would have checked out these cheap turkeys before signing on with them. About the only thing the Wild Things ‘front office’ (what a joke that phrase is) is good at doing is….slinging the BS and getting SOME people to actually believe it! Most folks that have had to deal with the Wild Things ‘front office’ know better than to believe that! Mr. Marlin either bought the WT line of BS OR, he is just desperate for a job.
Frannie managed to pretty much finish off the Wild Things with all her silly horse manure last season. Crap, she even tried to micro-manage the friggin’ parking lot. Of course if anybody dared to cross her they were simply fired. This bunch is so screwed up they can’t even muster up enough management skill to take advantage of the money that Mr. Bob “I Don’t Have Any Conflict of Interest” Gregg managed to worm out of the taxpayers for them. Not to worry though, I smell another rat in the Wild Things not to distant future. Can you think of a politician from the Canonsburg area? Can you say Mylan Labs in Canonsburg?
Think about it, it should come to you fairly easily.

About the "milk and cookies man":

Don't worry about Ross. He is a big boy and a "professional". He knows what he's doing and does not need any of us fans to worry about him.

Anyone that can consistently make people think that a half glass of milk is really a full glass of milk will have no problem making a living.

you don't like anyone who works for the Wild Things Front Office, you don't care for half the players they bring in, you don't want artificial turf, you don't like anyone who contradicts you...

Why the hell do you keep going to the games and buying tickets???

Its independent league professional baseball. There will always be change from top to bottom in these organizations. People that get to stay in the same job for more than 4 consecutive years are the exception not the norm.

Well, I’ve got to have something to keep me away from all the good looking women here in town – that means BOTH of them!!
Also, I bought a baseball glove four years ago to catch any foul ball that might come my way. So far I haven’t caught one. When I do I promise I will stop coming to the games. No fair bribing someone to hit no to me! IF you do that I will NEVER stop coming to the games.
As a matter of fact Anon, I think I will keep coming just to piss you off!
The same Anonymous said:
“you don't like anyone who works for the Wild Things Front Office”
Well Anon, that is just not true. I just like some better than others. Tell me which one has done ANYTHING that would make you respect them with the possible exception of Christine Blaine and
Wayne Herrod. The record of the failure the last two seasons certainly speaks for itself.
Same Anonymous, again:
“you don't like anyone who contradicts you.”
You are nothing but a “keyboard assassin”. You not have enough self-respect to use your name. A true devout coward. Cowards NEVER want their name revealed. At least I let everybody know who I am and don’t try to hide. I take responsibility for what I say. Sure glad I never had to have a gutless person as you in the foxhole next to mine. You would probably shoot your own fellow Marine rather than to do whatever it takes to have any integrity. Come to think of it, you wouldn’t make a pimple on a Marines rear end! I’m sure you would carry a white flag in you pocket!

Crap, you guys are so “easy” that I just can’t help myself! I’ll just keep on posting cause you have no sense of humor. “Yunz” (why do you speak that way?) really ought to learn to laugh a little. You just might live to be as old as me – I somehow doubt that.

First, since you said “any other person here”, can I take it for fact that you work in the Wild Things office?
Well, I sort of doubt what you say but what do I know. He is always nice to me when I talk to him. I can only go by what I see. If what you say is true at least he hides it. I really only dislike one person at the Wild Things so-called “Front Office”. I won’t mention any names here but his initials are Steve Zavacky. This guy just plain needs to “Man-Up”! I don’t dislike the others folks personally BUT, I do dislike the way they handle things.
That is my prerogative. If they don’t like me I don’t really lose any sleep over it. I am, who I am! I know what kind of a person I am. I express what I feel and I don’t hold back. I am not “two-faced” So, what others think of me matters not.

it will take more than a month to make change..he just cant go in and fire people with out reason, and to bring in new people and do the search for them, obviously it would be hard to get them in before the new year...so hes probably set new goals and the people in the front office either have accept it or have taken the past month to get their resumes out there....if there will be movement in the front office itl probably be in the next 2 months not in the 1st month that new guy is there.
