Schedule released?

At least two teams - Southern Illinois and Normal - have released their 2010 schedule and already I'm puzzled by the format. The first thing that comes to mind is "doesn't make sense."

The Frontier League will stick to its 96-game schedule and two-division format. You would think it would continue having teams play division opponents 12 times each and non-division foes six times each.

Uh, no.

Southern Illinois plays division rival Windy City only six times. It plays the other four teams in the West 12 times each. Instead of playing six more games against Windy City, Southern Illinois will play East Division foe Florence 12 times. Huh?

Checking the expansion Normal Cornbelters' schedule, they will play all West teams 12 times except Windy City, which they will play only six times. Normal will play - you guessed it - Florence 12 times.

Huh?

This makes no sense.

No other teams have released their 2010 schedule.

By the way: The Wild Things will not play Normal until a three-game series Aug. 13-15 at Consol Energy Park.

Like I NEVER do any research.

My information came from a Miners press release:

"Southern Illinois will only play West Division rival Windy City ThunderBolts a total of six times, three at home and three on the road. Instead the Miners will face the Florence (Ky.) Freedom a total of 12 times."

No mention of North or South divisions in the press release or that Windy City and Southern Illinois will not be in the same division. There also was no mention of North and South in the Normal release, and I checked the CornBelters' schedule on their homepage to see when they will play the Wild Things. Again, no mention of North or South.

If they do indeed use North-South alignment, then the Wild Things' travel just increased. It's 263 miles to Florence and 488 miles to Windy City.

As of yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon, the FL website still listed Rockford and did not list Normal.

That has changed as of this morning. Kalamazoo, Lake Erie, Oakland County, Traverse City, Washington and Windy City are listed in the EAST Division.

Evansville, Florence, Gateway, Normal, River City and Southern Illinois are listed in the WEST Division.

The FL site has not posted schedules, but the SoIll & Normal sites are as Chris blogged.
