Maz or Ernie?

One person with connections to the Wild Things will win a Frontier League championship in the next week. Will it be former Wild Things manager John Massarelli? Or will it be former Wild Things first baseman Ernie Banks?

Massarelli's Lake Erie Crushers will play Banks and the River City Rascals in Game 1 of the best-of-five Frontier League championship series tonight (8 p.m.) at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O'Fallon, Mo.

The only person I can recall having played or coached with the Wild Things who won a Frontier League championship is Greg Jelks (let me know if you can think of anyone else), so the number will double this year.

I hate to go against a trend – Massarelli has been the league's no-luck manager when it comes to the playoffs with four previous trips and no championships – but I'll take Lake Erie in four games because of the Crushers' defense and relief pitching. Two players who can swing the series in favor of River City are Scott Houin (35 stolen bases) and Chris Colton (34 stolen bases). River City was second in the league in steals while Lake Erie's catchers were last by a large margin in caught-stealing percentage, throwing out an anemic 18 percent of potential basestealers. Lake Erie must keep Houin and Colton off base.

So, who REALLY cares about the FL championship, Ernie Banks, or Maz?
Also Bill Lee, Franni Williams, Ross Vecchio, Mylan Labs, and Tim Solobay,Bob Gregg and all their underhanded dealings. They all brown nose each other and don't even try to hide it! They cheat the taxpayers and most of the dumb locals don't even care. Attorneys, Tim Sosobay, Bob Gregg, and all the Wild Things 'front office'. All partners in screwing us over and we are all too stupid to tell them to pack up and leave.
This entire mob needs to be flushed down the crapper - Tim Solobay is very familiar with bed pans anyway.
New ownership should make a difference if anybody is dumb enouth to associate their names with the Frontier League.

I have never, in all my life, seen such one sided, small thinking, tunnel vision people as I have seen on this blog. You people need to give it a break. Chris Dugan is trying to get a conversation about baseball going on this blog, and you continue to hash and re-hash your negative comments about the staff and about the field turf. It's time to drop it. Everyone who reads this blog know how you feel about the field turf, about Bob Gregg, about Tim Solobay, and about Frani Williams. Enough already.

The people who have frequented Wild Things' games during the past eight years know the good and the bad about the facility, about the staff, and about the team. What good are your negative comments doing? If you stated them once, you've made a contribution, but your continued slamming of the Wild Things just speaks of your unhappiness with your own lives. Get over it; if you don't like the Wild Things, don't go to the games and stop frequenting and writing on this blog.

As to the Mazz/Banks topic, I am rooting for Banks. I hope he slams the winning homerun out of the ballpark. Good luck, Ernie!

Now we have a psychiatrist telling us about our unhappy live, etc….. Buzz off you stupid Wild Things apologist! When the Wild Things no longer need you they will just throw you under the bus too!.
When Chris needs you to be the censor of the list he will just squeeze your head!

If you don't care for it then stop reading the blog. The truth must be known about how these crook's operate. It makes me proud to see a few people have stood up and started bitching because their sick of getting dumped on all the time by the well connected. It may not bother you but to most folks who put in a hard 40 hour week it's getting harder to take to see our elected officials throw money away stupidly. If the WWT want turf...buck up and pay for it.

Snoopy, you are the most boring person on the blog. It's the same crap EVERY SINGLE POST. If you're not an argument in favor of Dr. Kevorkian, I don't know who is. Get elected to the state assembly and make a difference. And the TOPIC, by the way, was whether Massarelli or Banks will be crowned a champion in the next week.

Give me Ernie Banks in a sweep!

River City takes Game 2, 6-5, and is now 1 win away from claiming the Frontier League Championship. River City trailed throughout most of the game, but finally pulled ahead when Ernie Banks scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 8th. However, the Rascals coughed up the tying run in the top of the 9th. Rascals shortstop Jorge Gutierrez led off the bottom of the 9th with a double, and scored 2 batters later on a Scott Houin single. Ernie Banks finished the game 2/3 with a double, triple, walk, 1 run scored and 2 RBIs.

The Lake Erie Crushers have forced a Game 4 by defeating River City 3-1 tonight. Lake Erie ace Paul Fagan, 14-3 during the regular season, limited the Rascals to just 1 run on 5 hits over 7 innings. J.J. Pacella notched the save. Ex-Wild Things 1B Ernie Banks factored in on 2 key plays for River City. Banks struck out swinging with runners on first and second with nobody out in the 6th, with River City trailing 3-1. Ryan Wehrle, the next hitter, grounded into an inning ending double-play, and the Rascals never threatened thereafter. Banks finished the game 1-4 with 2 strikeouts.

In the top of the 9th, Banks was forced out at second base for the inning's first out. River City manager Chad Parker argued that the throw pulled 2B Andrew Saylor off the bag, and was subsequently ejected. Parker allegedly made physical contact with umpire Jim Schaly during the argument.

Game 4 is tomorrow evening.

To the numbnuts that posted before me:

What do you want to happen at the ballpark? These dates had to be left open in case the Wild Things were in the championship series. Before you jackasses get on me, just remember it was only two seasons ago that the Wild Things were in the championship. That doesn't mean they couldnt have events there in October or later. I mean, it always pissed me off when the ballparks were closed during the winter.

The Lake Erie Crushers defeated the River City Rascals tonight, and have forced a deciding Game 5 on Wednesday night at O'Fallon, Missouri.

The turning point of the game came in the bottom of the 5th, when Rascals starting pitcher Stephen Flake, tossing a no-hitter through 4 and 2/3 innings, walked the bases loaded. Crushers 3B Andrew Davis worked a full count against Flake, before sending the payoff pitch over the centerfield wall for a grand slam.

River City's best chance came in the 1st inning, as the first 3 hitters singled off Crushers starting pitcher Brent Lysander, with 1 run scored. However, cleanup hitter Ernie Banks grounded into a double-play, and Ryan Wehrle grounded out to end the inning. The Rascals never seriously threatened again, with only 2 runners reaching scoring position the rest of the way. Lysander tossed 3 innings, and was followed with 6 innings of scoreless relief by Josh Faiola, Jacinto Gonell, Alberto Rolon, and J.J. Pacella.

Banks finished the game 0-3, with a walk. Starting pitchers for Game 5 will be River City's ace, Josh Lowey, against Lake Erie's Cardoza Tucker. Should be a thriller!

As of today, the O-R has relieved Chris Dugan of his duties covering the Washington Wild Things and has replaced him with famed internet blog poster, "swisschedda."

We thank Chris, who will stay on in other roles with the paper, for his years of service to the Observer-Reporter as well as the people of Washington and Greene counties.

I don't really care what they play on. As I've said before, I favor using the hotel tax on remedial English classes for angry bloggers. You're missing quite an exciting Championship Series, I'm more interested in that. But thanks for the concern.

Quite funny, actually. 1 too many "d's in my name, though. By the way, serious question.....is the Observer-Reporter covering the series in the printed edition of the paper? I don't see it on the online version, but then not everything is online. Just curious.
