Quality work

Here's a statistic you won't find on the Frontier League's homepage: quality starts. If a starting pitcher goes at least six innings and gives up three earned runs or less, he gets a quality start.

48 - Kalamazoo
40 - Rockford
40 - Southern Illinois
40 - Traverse City
39 - Windy City
38 - River City
34 - Florence
34 - Gateway
31 - Lake Erie
31 - Midwest
30 - Washington
26 - Evansville

Washington's leader in quality starts was Zach Groh with 10. Groh and Jason Neitz (7) combined for more than half of the team's quality starts.

The Wild Things' pitchers had 34 quality starts in 2008, 38 in 2007 and 44 in 2006.

I agree, Cahill should be the Mgr. He's proven he can take a team and lead them. Mason's win percentage as a Manager in the FL is only a 40 pt difference than the PIRATES over the last 4 years!!!! His best year was in Ohio Valley when he had Cahill as an assistant. Maybe the WWT will realize they need a fresh attitude and someone the players will listen to...
IF they are still in town next season

Where the hell would they be going?

29-year-lease--not going anywhere.

No, California University has a 30 year agreement with BSI, owners of the ballpark, there is no deal for the WWT to be in town for any amount of time. They pay rent to BSI, just like any tennant. The only agreement ever made was that Cal U could play there for the next 30 years. WWT have been very careful to avoid being tied in.

But if they do go, there is no doubt some wood bat college league would sneak in

No actual contract from the Wild Things for use of the ballpark.
A prime reason not to install taxpayer turf!

Who cares if they have a lease or not. They're not going anywhere. They're not up for sale and there's nobody trying to buy the team and move it.

The changes have begun in the front office. The ticket staff was let go today. As a former employee, I would like to say goodbye to all of the season ticket holders that I had the pleasure of getting to know over the past three years. I appreciate all the nice things you had to say during this season and I will miss all the jokes and stories at the Concierge shed!

Thanks again,

PJ Veri

PS: If you have any job opportunities, let me know! haha

Sorry to hear that. The next oerson to go should be the idiot that runs the concession stands.
Then, the big wheels should have the guts to just resign.
Organization like the Wild Things always pick on the ones that can't fight back.
What a bunch of jerks!
I suppose Franni did a great job in their estimation.

Let me see if I have this right. The WTs have their first losing season so they fire the ticket staff. Hmmmm. Yep, that's going to turn things around. Sounds like a solid strategy to me. I know if they would have sold a few more half-season plans the team might have won 65 games.

The WTs just don't get it. Win and people will show up. Nobody who lives outside of Washington wants to drive to a game to see a team get its brains beat in every night, to see a pitching staff that walks 12 batters every game and to see a team with a bunch of hitters who strike out 12 times a game and scream "F*%#!" after every strikeout.

After 8 years, it's the product that sells the tickets. Everybody has seen the dizzy bat races and the kids race the mascot. What everybody wants to see now if a team that wins. The promotions don't sell the tickets. Winning sells tickets.

the comment above is the by far the most on point post I've seen on this blog all year,.... firing the ticketing staff won't solve the product this organization puts on the field, I'm so glad people are seeing this ownership for what they truly are, greedy bastards

erase this post if you want, but you know it's the truth

I don't see "Dutch" listed on the Front Office list anymore. He must have been given the ax!

Chris,
Why does the O-R keep us informed on all this stuff or, won't they let you know anything?

I hate to answer a question with a question, but does your employer tell the media when they lay off or fire an employee? The only places who announce firings on an individual basis are colleges with their head coaching/AD jobs. Companies who have mass layoffs announce these things but don't give specifics on which individuals are being released.

The Wild Things are no exception. Someone who works in the ticket booth being relieved of their duties is not exactly something that calls for a press release or a call to the local newspaper, so it's kept in-house. News of this kind would be considered negative press.

Even if they change managers (Mark Mason had a one-year contract) they won't announce a change until a new manager is hired. This is what they did with Greg Jelks.

Just thought you had an "inside" contact. Is it true Dutch id gone?
Does anyone know for sure?

Yes, Dutch was let go. Please don't post any, "Well Good, I'm tired of hearing his voice at the games" talk because for those of you who knew Greg, knew he was a great guy. What a shame. I don't know if I am going to get my season tickets now. It's sad they couldn't find him valuable. Now if you call for DeFabio's head that's another story.

defabio is safe. he has no chance of being let go, no matter how awful he is. he can call as many home runs while the ball is still in play as he wants.

he can announce as many wrong batters as he wants. he can mispronounce 20 names a game. he can make the entire game sound like a run down little league game, but his job is completely safe because they think people actually listen to him (which they dont) and they feel he gives them coverage, no matter how bogus he is.

DiFabio can even call for the 7th inning stretch while there are only two outs in the top of the 7th.

Dutch goes but DiFabio stays. Just another reason the Wild Things weren't the FL's Organization of the Year. They would win Disorganization of the Year.

dutch can return for the onfield hosting activities, the things you all see/hear him do. it is the sales activities that greg was relieved of.

difabio, well that's a whole other issue altogether adn they just don't get it.

Mason was the pitching coach in 06. He was also coach of the year in 06. Mazz was manager of the year in 06 as well
