Taxpayers and ballparks

It seems Consol Energy Park won't be the only ballpark the taxpayers of Pennsylvania will be funding improvements to in the near future. Here's an Associated Press story about a makeover planned for FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, home of the Philadelphia Phillies' affiliate in the Class AA Eastern League. The cost to the taxpayers is $5 million:

$10M makeover planned for Reading Phillies park
READING, Pa. (AP) — The city of Reading and the Reading Phillies have announced plans for a $10 million makeover of FirstEnergy Stadium over the next two off-seasons.
The plan would move the entrance to a huge new concession plaza along the right-field side, add a 450-space parking lot and renovate the much-maligned team locker rooms.
The plan is contingent on getting a $5 million state grant, with the team and the city paying the rest of the project cost at the 60-year-old ball field.
The city had abandoned an earlier proposal to build a new stadium downtown.
Instead, the city plans to focus on renovating the existing stadium, especially since the R-Phils’ lease there runs through 2021 and the city is responsible for repairs and maintenance.

Regarding the Reading thing, that is and old story. It is one of the excuses the Wild Things used when I talked to them about it. "Everbody else is doing it. They got new turf at Reading so why should not we do the same?".
The "idiots" that DON'T complain usually are the ones that have no idea what their government is doing and, are too stupid to care. Of course, the government just loves to have uninformed citizens. It gives them free a free hand to do whatever they wish while the public just sleeps through it.
BTW: I suppose you non-complaining "Idiots" have failed to notice the Gov. Rendell is asking for another tax increase because we are out of money. If some "idiots" would complain perhaps the taxpayers could have saved millions of dollars and not be facing higher taxes.
Perhaps some of you "idiots" don't mind paying your tax dollars to support a baseball team, but I do. If the WT, or any other team, can't pay their own expenses, why should the taxpayer be forced to help them?
Has the government offered to pay any of your bills? How do you think the WT would react if you ask then to help you buy a new lawn? They would crap and fall into it. They would not spend one nickle to help you.
Just let the bastards go out of business!

The government does pay people's bill's.It's called welfare and un-employment compensation.Some deserve it.However many do not.

another example of a rip off of tax payers!
Taxpayer turf in Washington and all the other taxpayer "contributions" of pro stadiums in other cites has go to stop.
I'm proud to be an American, but not an American taxpayer.

Mason did nothing tonight to help his case for returning next year. Why take Peterson out? Why so many left handed batters in a row? Why didn't Parker bunt with a guy on first and no outs in the 7th inning of a tie game?

I'd rather watch Banks hit and yell at the opponents every night than watch the guy we got in return for him pitch. Great trade whoever pulled the trigger on that one. WORST TRADE EVER.

In 2000, the taxpayers of Pa. gave $400,000 for expansion and renovation of the ballpark in Reading. Seems like every 9 years the people in Reading ask for a handout.

the reading baseball team means 10's of millions of dollars to the reading economy every year.

the washington baseball team means several million dollars to the washington economy every year.

this are government actions that promote the general welfare of the communities. read the constitution people. that is a primary function of government.

What's with those motorcyclists taking up all those handicap spaces. I ended up having to park clear around back and I can't walk very far. All they had to do was move one row over and take up the spaces there. No wonder the Wild Things get so many crazy comments, they don't even know how to run a business properly. And they wonder why their attendance goes up and down all the time. For that matter, they could have let them park on the shoulder where they would be out of the way.

Thos motorcycle people actuall took it upon themselves to block one half of the handicapped section and nobody at the Wild Things office that the balls to come over and say anything to them. We had to walk a LOOOONG way in pain just because some motorclcle butt holes could park close to the right field gate. Way to go Wild Things! If you had half a brain, you would stiil be in the the hole. What a way to run a baseball team. You bastards just never learn.

There are several problems with the whole handicapped parking situation. One, they don't need four or five entire rows of handicapped parking by the right field gate. Those spaces are never full. If they are full that proves my theory correct that doctors sign off on those handicapped tags like they're giving out bubble gum. Have a pimple on your butt? Here's handicapped parking tag for you. I know there are a lot of people who attend WT games who have and should have the tags (I'm not slamming you. Haven't seen anyone yet at CEP in the handy lot that doesn't look like they shouldn't have a tag). It's the people who I see at places like the mall who have a handicapped tag, park in the handicapped spaces and then get out of the car and sprint to the mall entrance like they're Usian Bolt. Drives me crazy.
