Scenes from Pete Rose Night
There were many people at Consol Energy Night on Tuesday -- some wearing Cincinnati Reds or Philadelphia Phillies T-shirts -- who were thrilled to meet, shake hands with or take a photo with Pete Rose.
It's hard to believe any of those people were were more excited about baseball's all-time hits leader being at CEP than Wild Things manager Bob Bozzuto, who after Washington's 5-2 walk-off victory over Lake Erie was quick to praise Rose for talking to his team and offering hitting advice to some of the players.
"There was a lot of goodwill today. He spent a lot of time with the players. ... The man was fabulous," Bozzuto said. "The man was into the game. He wanted to know the signs. The guys saw his enthusiasm and it was huge for them. The man was phenomenal. It was something we'll never forget. If (people) were in our shoes, they wouldn't believe what they saw.
"Any time the different sports celebrities come in (to CEP), it's nice for the fans. But this, it was awesome. He was just great."
The one drawback to the night was the torrential downpour that hit about one hour before the 7:05 scheduled start time. The rain, no doubt, kept some fans away -- people don't like spending their Tuesday nights getting soaked at a ballpark no matter who else is there -- and caused a delay of more than one hour.

Did Pete Rose bet on the Wild Things to lose the game?
I'll bet he is laughing up his sleeve at the local yokels that fell for his
line of baloney. Leave it to two people like Pete and Stu to capitalize on the
not too smart people that go to WT games.
When it comes to Pete Rose, we really should feel sort of sorry for the man. He made millions of dollars during his career. Instead of making wise investments, he decided to waste his riches on gambling. Now he finds himself in such a desperate
situation that he has to go around to ballparks in independent leagues (MLB won't allow him in affiliated ballparks) selling his autograph. How pathetic is that? Just like almost EVERY other athlete that gets into trouble, Pete doesn't feel he should be held accountable for his actions. Well, I think he should. MLB has make some mistakes over the last few decades but, in the banning of Pete Rose for life, they absolutely made the right decision. Stats? Who cares about Mr. Rose's stats?
He should have thought about that when he decided it was okay to gamble on games in which his team participated. Perhaps he thought he could 'hustle' MLB into giving him a pass for his misdeeds, thankfully, they did not! I notice that he has managed to sway a lot of people in the small independent league ballparks to see it his way.
So, now Pete has worked up a new game - he's 'hustling' money for his worthless autograph from vulnerable fans at independent league ballparks that think integrity is only a secondary issue in the game of baseball. Kudos to MLB for standing their ground about Mr. Rose's violation of their policy when it comes to gambling. As for independent leagues well, they are what they are BUT, they are concerned about
money much more than the game of baseball itself - ANYTHING goes, as we have already seen. However, Pete Rose does NOT belong in the MLB Hall of Fame!
Like it, or not, that's how I feel.

I "BET" Pete Rose could become a great baseball sports agent!
"I "BET" Pete Rose could become a great baseball sports agent!"
I wouldn't gamble on that.
