Zeller not coaching

Price Cutter Park needs some improvements. (Headline News photo)

It appears that former Wild Things manager Bart Zeller won't be coaching baseball in the independent ranks this summer.

Zeller was set to be a manager for a team in the Heartland of America Baseball League that was to include 10 teams playing in the Springfield, Mo., area with Price Cutter Park as its home base.

Price Cutter Park used to be home to the Frontier League's Springfield-Ozark Ducks. The ballpark has basically gone unused since the Ducks left in 2005 and the St. Louis Cardinals moved their Class AA affiliate to a new ballpark in Springfield.

The Heartland was one of two indy leagues that wanted to use Price Cutter and had originally set a June 13 start date. That was pushed back to June 20, then to July 4. Now it seems that the league will not play in 2015 because of various reasons, one being that no deal has been struck to use Price Cutter Park.

The following are two links about the league shutting down. The first is about how Zeller had to email players telling them that the league was defunct, then had to send another email that stated the league was not dead and that players should report for workouts. The latter is about the league officially shutting down.

The Wild Things were just swept by the traveling Grays.
Is this the first time the Things have been swept by a traveling team?

That is a sign of a disfunctional team!

No, they were swept by the Greys in the final three games (9-5, 3-2 and 6-3) of the 2013 season.

“Honestly, I can’t put my finger on what the problem is, but we have a lot of good guys who are just not hitting right now,” he said. “I really believe we have one of the better teams but we’re not hitting on all cylinders. We’re going to turn it around on the upcoming road trip. A couple of wins in a row can turn it around.”

Same almost exact quote we heard last year by a player no longer with the team.
The turn around never happened then and it won't happen this year, either.

I didn't realize the Wildthings were in the American League in 2013-2014. Zeller, who managed the Frontier League’s Joliet Slammers in 2012 and the Washington Wild Things of the American Association from 2013-14, sent a retraction email later that same day, telling the players to disregard the email and show up for a noon practice as planned.

Oh yeah, guess he forgot about that!
BUT, they blew it....again.
It's really frustrating watching the Wild Things.
One would think that they would be able to put together at least a couple of
good seasons in a row. This year seems to be fading fast.
Does anybody know who makes the decisions on who gets cut and who stays?
The number of roster changes makes it hard to truly be a fan of any given player.
I like Bobby B but, the team doesn't seen to have the chemistry, or whatever you want to call it, to play a consistent game. I am glad to see that Bobby B will
back his players on the field. In the past too many Wild Things managers have seemed to be way to laid back. Not so Bobby - good for him. Anybody remember Darren Everson? Most of the time we wondered if the guy was even in the dugout at all. I think the team is lacking vision, not on the field but from the management. Anyway,
maybe having a short break in the schedule will refresh the attitude of the guys and they can get on a roll. Being back this far in the standings in a short season league, isn't the best of situations

Let's do some math. The Mild Things have played 33 games. That means they have 63 left and miss the playoffs of course. Next year they have 96 games and miss the playoffs of course. That means they have 159 games left Washington and then YOU CAN KISS THEM GOODBYE.

Parkersburg Wild Things in 2017. Predicted here first.

Enjoy them while they last.

"Parkersburg Wild Things in 2017. Predicted here first."

That's probably NOT going to happen at all. What are you basing that prediction
on? Is it speculation on your part or, is there some factual information you
are privy to? I'd like to know.

There was never any chance of the Wild Things moving to WV. They played "Country Roads" by John Denver a few years back after the last home game as a goof and you fools fell for it. Besides, it's to far away...do you think the owner would pay for all the gas he would have to pay to drive to Parkersburg to intimidate the staff and act like a jerk. Not a chance, ya'll are stuck with bad baseball for the foreseeable future. Sorry!

Parkersburg has an agreement with the owner of the Mild Things to "bring a Frontier League team" to Parkersburg. Read between the lines, that agreement doesn't say a startup team. It can be a team currently in the league. If the Mid Things move the owner doesn't have to pay to buy another team in the league and move it to Parkersburg which means he saves money by moving his team out of Washington. It's obvious that Washington no longer supports the Mild Things all you have to do is look at the attendance to see this is true. By moving the Mild Things his team will play in a new stadium and generate more ticket sales than in Washington. He will not have to lure people to the stadium by giving away tickets by leaving them on winshields at WalMart. Having an owner with more than one team in a league .... one a successful team and the other a sinking ship .... never works. The owner always takes profits from the successful team and funnels them back to fund the other team. The owner of the Mild Things is smart enough to know this so the wise move is to move the team out of Washington. If he keeps the team in Washington it will only continue to lose money and judging by the attendance of the Mild Things and the softball team he is probably losing more money than you and I make in a year. It's predicted here first ..... he will move the Mild Things, sale the softball team and sale the stadium. He saves money by moving the Mild Things, makes money on the sale of the softball team and who knows what the property will go for. You can bet though that the Mild Things are going to Parkersburg. Deny it all you want but it's going to happen.
