Competition coming

New ballpark being constructed in Morgantown, W.Va., that will house the Pirates' New York-Penn League affiliate.

If you're a minor-league baseball fan and live anywhere between Washington and Morgantown, W.Va., you'll have to make a decision in upcoming years about where to watch games.

According to the Charleston (W.Va.) Gazette, the Jamestown Jammers, the short-season New York-Penn league affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, is moving to Morgantown and will play at a ballpark that is currently being constructed and will be shared with the West Virginia University team.

Here is the link to the story, though it does not say what year the Jammers will be moving.

Great news. Now we can go watch some real baseball, not this Williams owned Frontier League farce. I can already see Consol Empty Park even more empty than it is now!
Williams gang deserves this.

I will go there and check out the comparison of baseball and also check out the prices of tickets, concessions, and see what if any they charge for parking.

If this doesn't put the final nail in the Wild Things coffin, it would be a miracle. I saw that they're averaging about 1800 this year, that is several light years beyond pathetic. I am one of those empty seats each weekend that they're home. I used to attend 15 or so games a year. But in 2012, I made it to only 4, and none after July 4th. Last year, zero. This year, one, ironically it was the night of the infamous pitching coach assaulting Zeller incident. And then I discover that the manager resigns, and the guy obviously responsible gets to spend the next night in the owner's box, and keeps his job? Then the hitting coach quits? Do I really want to support this ridiculous sideshow? I've passed on the 2 or 3 chances I've had since that night to see other Saturday night games. Road construction factors into it, but overall the main reason is that it just isn't fun going to a 2/3 empty ballpark with less than zero atmosphere. It's not the "level of baseball" at all, it's fun watching guys playing for the love of the game. Of course it's not going to be on par with MLB, these guys are barely out of college. When you see a ship sinking and no real effort to right the ship, there's a reason behind it. I won't be going to see the Pirates' affiliate in Morgantown, either. It's simply too far a drive, when I could go to PNC in 30 minutes and see amazing young talent like Cutch, Harrison, Walker, Cole, etc. I would expect the Morgantown team to be fun to watch, though, as the Pirates are finally doing the right thing and developing talent through their minor league system instead of signing retreads at the tail end of their careers.

Addressing comments from a few posts back, Chris Sidick was my favorite player to watch, no question. He gave it all every single night. If there are more numbers retired in the future (if the Wild Things survive that long), I would suggest Jacob Dempsey or Aaron Ledbetter.

It's a shame that this first place team is playing in an empty ballpark. Wouldn't it be ironic if they made it to the Championship Series? But then, Game 3 of the 2007 Series was packed, and Game 4 was half full, albeit on a very cold evening. This team, except the pitching coach, deserve better.

Ironic too, is the fact that Ernie Banks played for the Jamestown Jammers.

All previous comments are valid as the atmosphere at Consol is definitely flat lined. In '07, good tickets were still hard to come by and the sentiments in the stadium were positively electric.

What will transpire now is still speculative. I always thought it would have been a good decision to have a Frontier League Franchise (Sliders/Greys) in Morgantown.

I have witnessed games in the NY?Penn League and they are on par with the Frontier League. However, with Altoona andPNC proximal, there now will be a continuity of player matriculation and following.
Good luck Jammers!

Glad Swisscheda wasn't at the park Sunday. He missed a perfect game ..... something he'll never see again.

How dare Swisscheda say anything bad about the Wild Things scumbag pitching coach? With the WT trying so darn hard to keep this less than a real man under the radar by having him wear a jacket over his number and hiding the jerk in the dugout all night, old Swiss just had to remind us the the slob is still on the WT payroll. He's the skeleton in the closet that's nobody is supposed to see, or talk about. With people like Stu Williams and Steve Z running the show this is the sort of thing one would expect.
With any kind of good luck, the new new team in Morgantown will put an end to the Frontier League in Washington. Williams can pack up his circus and head back to Brownsville, or wherever. There’s no fun left at Consol Empty Park anyway.
If I were contemplating a season ticket for next year, I'd be real careful putting any money down on it. This outfit might just fold even before you might think. Don't know if you would ever see a refund. Attorneys know all the tricks of how to hold on to a dollar.

I guess they do a good job hiding Gryboski because I haven't seem him. I guess I don't pay enough attention. I thought fired him right away.
Oh well!

That's wrong. He should have said,

If this doesn't put the final nail in the Wild Things coffin, it would be a SHAME.

A Pirate's affiliate in Morgantown will not hurt the "Stu Crew" here in Washington. They don't and really have never had an impact on attendance. There are more important things to do in West VA than waste your money on overpriced canned beer, out of code hot dog and hamburger buns and stale, store bought popcorn. The Wild Things are a joke. I'm surprised anyone is still going to games. They should give you $5 to park and let everyone in free...never mind, if you say free around the owner, he might pass out!

Maybe some of coal miners from down around Waynesburg will go to WV instead of wasting their hard earned money at a WT game. Hope so. Their business, like everybody eles's, is not really appreciated anyway.
Can't help but notice the "Best Mascot in the Frontier League" outfit is a dirty, frazzeled awful mess. I don't want that filthy dang thing even near me. It's being held together with some black tape and has a odor that is not good. You mean to tell me Stu can't buy this poor guy a new, clean outfit? What is wrong with these people?
Probably spending too much money on actually paying their super hero, Kevin Gryboski.

Will the O-R offer free tickets in the O-R plus like they did with the Wild Things and Rebellion this year?

No, not haters at all. Just realist, not lemmings. People such as you are the reason people like Kevin Gryboski are still wearing a Wild Things uniform. What a disgrace.

Keep Consol Empty Park empty.
