Montoya to Fargo
Jhonny Montoya |
Montoya was in his fourth year with the Wild Things. He had pitched in 71 games as both a starter and reliever, compiling a 10-13 record with six saves. Montoya appeared in three games out of the bullpen this season. He was placed on the 7-day disabled list last weekend.
Montoya was Washington's one player classified as Veteran that the Frontier League allows each team. It's obvious that Montoya was the victim of a numbers game as the Wild Things had too many Experienced and Veteran players and was using the DL as a way to hide a player or two until a trade could be made.
Montoya has some knowledge of the American Association as he pitched in 10 games for the Kansas City T-Bones last year, getting a win and seven saves before being traded back to the Wild Things.
It's always tough to see a player go, especially one who has spent four years in Washington. Montoya is one of the nicest players I've encountered in my time covering the Wild Things. He always made a point to say hello when we passed in the clubhouse hallway and seemed to be a jovial guy who enjoyed interacting with fans after games.

Any comments from host family mama?
The Wild Things are tied for first place. I guess Frannie and Steve know what they are doing!
Is it just luck or perhaps Bart know baseball. Afterall, I believe he won a league championship with another team.
I don't care to hear what any host family says. One of the problems with the Wild Things is the fact they allow host families to meddle in the coaching process of the players. I've sat in Season Ticket Holders Meetings and listened to some of these host family people brag about the things they always teach their "boy's" about baseball.
Neither Mr. Williams nor Steve have ever said anything during these meetings to dissuade this practice. None of these people are qualified to teach anybody about anything. If these folks are so qualified why then, are they not on some baseball team's payroll? We can only hope their "boy's" don't listen to a word these people say. The Wild Things have always made it a point of calling themselves a "professional" baseball team. How can they be a 'professional" team while allowing nonprofessional coaching from host families?
The host families roll is, IMHO, to provide a place for these young men to stay while the Wild Things are playing home games. Nothing more - nothing less.
Ima Fraid
vcx Gee, another I know everything about everything and what everybody should do comment from Ima Fraid.
Do you really think the players go to the host families for the "how tos" on hitting behind the runner or playing no-doubles-defense? Really?
As a host family we have never "meddled" in the coaching process. Sorry to see Ima Fraid seems to put host families in this category. We always wish our players who leave the "BEST' in their endeavors!!!!
"None of these people are qualified to teach anybody about anything."
Ima Fraid, again showing that he thinks he is all-knowing about everything and everybody.
"We can only hope their "boy's" don't listen to a word these people say"
As we hope that nobody reads or take seriously anything Ima Fraid writes.
I've attended every Season Ticket Holders Advisory Committee meeting and have never heard ONE WORD about host families 'coaching' their house guests, if fact, I'm not aware of any of the participants of these meeting who are host families. Ima Fraid some people need to make up a negative cause for the sole purpose of 'stirring' the pot of beating down the team ownership/management. Perhaps these #@&% stirrers need to be on the outside looking in for these informative meetings.
I also have attended most of the Season Ticket Holers meeting and have not heard anyone talk about the host families. Unless you want to count the times the Management has asked for Host Families. Also I don't recall seeing Ima Fraid at any of the meetings this past winter.
