Pitching coach traded

The Wild Things will have a new pitching coach this season.

That's because Gary Lee, who doubled as a player/coach the last two seasons, was traded Tuesday to the Laredo Lemurs of the American Association.

In return, Washington receives ... get this ... left-handed pitcher Matt Phillips.

That's the same Matt Phillips who played for the Wild Things last year but was sent to Laredo in September in a trade that brought outfielder Danny Poma to Washington.

In other words, the Wild Things traded one of their coaches from last season for one of their players.

Lee spent two seasons with Washington, compiling a 12-14 record in 37 starts that included one shutout. He was named to the Frontier League All-Star game in 2012, when he went 7-5 with a 2.90 ERA. At midseason that year, Lee was added to the coaching staff when Tim Ferguson was let go.

Phillips was a very effective pitching in a setup role during his one season in Washington. He was 3-3 with a 2.96 ERA and one save in 40 appearances. He struck out 44 in 45 2/3 innings.

Now, they can bring back Mark Mason as the pitching coach.

Why don't the Wild Things just get smart and dump the Asst. General Manager? That would solve a lot of problems in a snap of a finger. I'm sure the Pecos League could find a place to hide this guy.

Mark Mason won't be back as pitching coach. He's the manager of York in the Atlantic League.

Is the O-R going to have a blog on the new ladies professional softball league?

Stu Williams SEEMS to be a really smart guy. Why do you suppose that he can't find his backside with both hands when it comes to running this baseball team? It's frustrating waiting for them to do something right. All we ever see form this Keystone Kops bunch is silly stuff like the subject of this thread. When are these people going to do something that will really make some sort of a real difference? I find it difficult to believe that this group can't do better than they have been doing.
I don't have the answers either BUT, I don't own a baseball team. If I did I would dump Steve Z and hire some REAL professionals with experience in managing a sports team. It's more than obvious Steve Z is just a 'yes' man for Stu. Employees are like any other product, you get what you pay for. Looks to me like Stu is paying this group to fail rather to succeed. If so, they are doing a great job of failing and, at the same time, letting we fans down, also.

If there is enough interest in the team, then the O-R will add a blog about the softball team.

At this point, I would think the ladies team would generate more interest than the Wild Cubs.

Wait a minute. There's a softball team? How can you run two teams when you can't help but S up the first team? (Stu up, or Steve up, they mean the same thing).

Second, Tuscano is the beat writer for the softball team? Well, that won't end poorly or anything.

Third, is there any chance they actually hire anyone new so these people don't work 100 hours a week? Hey come work in Washington, where you can be a slave to Stu. He says "jump", you say "over which menorah?" Pathetic.

This franchise used to be great. Best in indy ball. Now it's a dumpster fire. Brought to you by people who can't tell you how to hit a curve ball.

Thanks Zavacky, we know it's you. By the way did you just trade for someone who you immediately put on the 60-day disabled list?

See this is what happens when you click "Trade for Player instead of "Add as Friend" on Facebook.

A Public Service Announcement.

That big Yes Man Zavacky has got to go. I wonder what he has on Stu that makes Williams keep this do-nothing guy on the payroll.
