Arizona

While many baseball fans were watching what was an a very entertaining postseason, baseball scouts were focused on games being played in the Valley of the Sun, where many of the top prospects are taking part in the Arizona Fall League.

One former Wild Things player, pitcher Vidal Nuno, is playing in the AFL. He's the first former Washington player to play in the league.

Nuno, a member of the New York Yankees farm system, is playing for the Scottsdale Scorpions, along with several Pittsburgh Pirates prospects, including pitchers Jameson Taillon and Phil Irwin.
Nuno has made four starts and has an 0-1 record and 3.45 ERA. In 15 2/3 innings, he has allowed 16 hits and 8 runs (6 earned). He's struck out 14 and walked only two batters.

In his first start, Nuno lasted only 2 2/3 innings in a game in which Scottsdale committed six errors. Over his last two starts, Nuno has pitched nine scoreless innings, allowing only four hits.

You might recall that Nuno became the first former Wild Things player to appear in a major league game as he pitched in five games this year for the Yankees. He pitched well (1-2, 2.25) before being sent back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he pitched in only five games (30 strikeouts, 2 walks) before suffering a season-ending groin injury.
