Evansville trades finalized
The Wild Things and Evansville have completed their two trades from back in August, when Washington sent pitchers Orlando Santos and Anthony Collazo to the Otters in exchange for players to be named.
Washington has acquired left-handed hitting shortstop Ryan Kresky and left-handed pitcher Ryan Zamorsky to complete those trades.
Kresky was the Otters' starting shortstop and a rookie out of Fairleigh Dickinson University. He batted .268 with seven home runs and 43 RBI in his first season of professional baseball. He also had nine stolen bases.
"Kresky had six game-winning hits for the Otters. His manager, Andy McCauley, told me that he is a real gamer and is the type of player we are looking for to fill our 2014 roster," Washington manager Bart Zeller said. "He is able to play the three infield positions with confidence and that is such a benefit to us."
Zamorsky is a soft-tossing starting pitcher who had a 5-7 record and 4.30 ERA. He was a member of the East Division all-star team last year after winning four of his first five starts (28 innings pitched, one run allowed in those wins). Zamorsky, however, won only one game after June 20, that a game in August at River City when he tossed six shutout innings.
"Ryan brings a solid year of experience in the Frontier League to us, and his style of pitching fits in with our strong defense," Zeller said. "He’s not a strikeout pitcher but does like to put the ball in play. We are looking forward to having him as a member of the Wild Things."
Like Kresky, Zamorsky is a New Jersey native. Zamorsky played at Kean University, an NCAA Division III school.
