Closing note

Jonathan Kountis
The Wild Things acquired a former Frontier League all-star pitcher Wednesday when they signed right-hander Jonathan Kountis.

In 2012, Kountis was the top closer in the Frontier League while pitching for the Lake Erie Crushers. He had a 6-2 record, 18 saves, a 1.06 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 59 2/3 innings.

An Akron, Ohio, native, Kountis was then signed by the Toronto Blue Jays and spent one uneventful month with Class A Vancouver this spring, pitching in 10 games and posting a 5.79 ERA before being released.

Kountis appeared in four games with Laredo of the American Association before returning to the Frontier League with the Greys. He was used as a starting pitcher and had a 1-5 record and 7.08 ERA in nine games (seven starts). He did strike out 36 batters in 34 1/3 innings.

The 25-year-old Kountis has been drafted twice, including in the 19th round by the New York Mets in 2010. He spent two seasons in the Mets' minor-league system.

The Wild Things plan to return Kountis to the bullpen.

"We are very fortunate to have signed closer Jonathan Kountis, especially after we traded our 2013 closer, Amalio Diaz, to Laredo," Washington manager Bart Zeller said in a press release. "Jon fills a very large void left by Diaz, but with his record in the Frontier League in 2012, we have no doubt that he'll assume the closing role for the Wild Things."

Are you serious about the Wild Things going back to the red and white jersey?

Anyone what to make a bet about if this kid will even be here in May, 2014? How many times have we been fed this line of crap?

Did I miss something in the post about switching jersey colors??? I thought it was about acquiring pitcher Jonathan Kountis. Damn, I need to get my eyes checked again soon.

Are they really bringing back those jersey's? I love them but at the same time, these ones were not bad. The hats were cool and the pin stripes looked cool. The blue ones that said wild things on them were ugly. I want to see them also bring back 2008 jersey design.

What jersey is better? The pin stripes or the all blue? Personally, I like the pin stripes.

Neither. They both looked awful against the backdrop of the billboard-sized red & black logo in the turf behind home plate.

Your right Jeff. This article should be about Kountis. But who really cares! This team sucks. There going to suck in 2014 and beyond. So, why don't we make it interesting. Talk about jersey's. Knowing this ownership, they'll probably get really awful looking green jersey or something even more stupid then these jersey's. We will see.

If the last couple of years are any indication, Kountis won't even be here by Spring. The Things will have traded him for some other person by then. Don't you see these Wackeys and Williams guys are full of themselves. So, why not talk about Jerseys, or anything else?
When I saw on this blog that the Things were GIVING tickets away, AND letting these freebies sit wherever they wanted I almost had a stroke. How dare the management disrespect those of us that pay by letting in others for free! DAMN, that really ticks me off. What a bunch of pompous asses!
