All-league team
In case you missed it, the Frontier League announced its all-league team and award winners Sunday. Washington's C.J. Beatty was named the all-league second baseman. He is the first Washington player since 2009 (designated hitter Jacob Dempsey) to be named all-league and the first Wild Things second baseman to be so honored since Brian Stoecklein in 2003.
Beatty is batting .311 with 26 doubles, 18 home runs and 65 RBI. He also has drawn a team-high 41 walks and leads the league in total bases with 192.
"He far exceeded what our expectations were for him," Washington manager Bart Zeller said. "We didn't expect him to come in and hit (18) home runs. He has been just tremendous. He's a great leader in the clubhouse and on the field."
Zeller also said that Beatty will play third base during the upcoming three-game series against the Greys.

Congrats on the newspaper of the year award, the coverage was outstanding as always! I managed to attend absolutely zero games this season, but being the baseball fan I am I did keep tabs by reading the O-R online.
A couple of comments from a few posts ago: it's rather typical that a guy who barely got a cup of coffee from the Wild Things went to become all-league with Joliet. Maybe they released him so that Kalamar, who hit .159 with a whopping 3 extra base hits, could get some more at-bats, huh? How in the world could they repeat the Bando Blunder of last year, by keeping this guy on the roster? And putting him in the lineup? And I see that a pitcher released quickly earlier in the season was picked up by the Phillies. Way to judge talent, guys! This team has stunk since 2008 and that fact, coupled with higher ticket/parking/concession prices, and the success of the Pirates has doomed this team.
Who do you think you are Swisscheda? How about you come up to the park next year and you can tell the players who you are and what you think of them. Instead you sit at your computer behind a fake name! Coward!
LMAO, there is something truly pathetic about ANYBODY named "anonymous" calling anyone else a coward. At least with my "fake name", no matter how silly it may be, there's zero doubt who said it. You have to sign in with a password for the name to even pop up. Either you're Kalamar's grandmother or you're a kid. Thanks for the chuckle.
An average of 1707 fans per game futher supports my complaint that people won't pay in mass to see a team that stinks. That's a half empty ballpark, and that's not even taking into account the tickets sold to people who didn't bother using them. Let's think hard about this one....pay to see a guy bat .159 or pay just a little more and see Andrew McCutchen. Ummmm...it's tempting, don't get me wrong, but I think I'll go see Andrew.
I would have no problem with "telling the players what I think about them", but they'd better get some better players first to make it worth the drive. If I ticked off this current bunch and they took a swing at me, no doubt they'd whiff. Sigh...
You are so right, Swiss! That's one of the reasons I rarely post anything any more. The real cowards are the ones that take the cheap shots using "Anonymous".
If your going to post something critical of, or berating somebody, or something, you ought to identify yourself. Otherwise, your post has no creditability. Also, it shows a lack of character. In other words - no balls!! If your going to say it than take responsibility for it OR, shut the Hell up!
Mr. Williams will NEVER have a decent team as long as he surrounds himself with a bunch of "yes" men that kiss his fanny every day. It disgusting to watch this bunch be so afraid of their jobs. The Wild Things need a person that at least has a clue about how to evaluate players and run a sports enterprise. Also, an individual that isn't scared crapless of his/her job. CEP is a sports venue, not a courtroom.

I wonder if Mr. Williams would make more money by using the complex for commerical development.
Perhaps this is his plan overall until the WV move takes place.
Chris are you going to give an end of the year report card on the Wild Cubs?

I cant post using my real name because I am a player. A player that EVERYONE wants back. So the first day of spring training Swisscheda come to the field I will meet you outside the players gate and believe me I will not miss. Ive been hearing your "insight" on here too long. We will see who the coward is!!! Believe me you will know who I am!!!
A player that everyone wants back? We've been watching the same lousy players lose games for at least two years now. Why would we want any of them back? They can't win. Time for Stu to clean house and get rid of the players, the coaches, and the front office and get people in here who know who to win. The offseason motto for the Wild Things should be "Change is good."
Hey player! Your are just another coward keyboard jockey. First, I think your nothing but just another liar. Second, if you really are a player, you can't be THAT good if your still in the Frontier League. Perhaps you are a legend in your own mind! Third, your only response to criticism to want to punch somebody. Shows you have no good response to what Swiss said. He is right and your just stupid.
I suppose you will try to slug me the next time you see me. Well, go ahead and you will spend next season wearing a striped uniform. What a big man you are (in a pig's eye)!
Ima Fraid
what level of professional baseball did the rest of you guys play for? I am on the side of the players. There are some tremendous players in Washington. The Things just need a couple more additions to add to their puzzle. Judging by the post times you guys must be professional bloggers?
Swisscheda come to the field I will meet you outside the players gate and believe me I will not miss
You big meanie, I'm telling my dad!
First of all, buddy, I'd highly doubt any player has wasted their time reading a blog with fan commentary. But in the rare chance that you ARE, then you have been to college. You should sue your university for not teaching you apostrophies and punctuation marks. Pathetic! Anything else I needed to add was already mentioned by Ima Fraid, who beat me to the punch! (pun INTENDED)
On another note, anybody notice that ex-Wild Things manager Jeff Isom guided his Lake Erie Crushers to a playoff berth after being away from the league for years?
