5 Wild Things named to All-Star Game

The Frontier League announced Monday the initial rosters for its all-star game and the Wild Things will have five representatives, including three pitchers.

Selected for the game as position players were second baseman Scott Lawson and catcher Blake Ochoa. Both will be backups for the East Division team that will play the West July 13 at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio.

Washington pitchers Casey Barnes, Justin Hall and Jhonny Montoya will be on the East's staff.

Lawson leads the Wild Things with a .319 batting average, and his .425 on-base percentage is fifth-best in the league.

Ochoa is batting only .198 but is second on the Wild Things with 21 walks and has thrown out 22 percent of opposing base stealers.

Barnes (2-3) is second in the league in ERA at 1.91. Hall (4-2, 3.27) is tied for the league lead with two shutouts and is tops on the Washington pitching staff in wins. Montoya (1-1, 2.20) is fourth in the league in ERA and second on the team in strikeouts with 32 in 49 innings.

The final three rosters spots for each team will be chosen by the game's managers Thursday.

if this keeps up, i'll be as bald as mr. smily in no time....

down a run in the 5th (7-inning game), the wild things get banks & morrow at 2nd & 1st with nobody out. feiner, the 9-hitter (rightfully so), does not sacrifice or even attempt to do so. can anyone tell me why, with the team's leading hitter on deck, mr. smily doesn't order up the sacrifice to move the tying run to third and the go-ahead run to second? anyone? or did he call for it and yet another wild thing decide it was more important for him to swing away?

and, now in the bottom of the inning, the grizzlies understand the value of the sacfice in a 1-run game.

and, like clockwork, the team that did it right, rolls to the win. the team that didn't loses, again, a 5th straight time.

i'm beginning to find myself rooting for the other teams so that eventually, somebody will realize this team is selfish, leaderless and crashing quickly to the bottom of hte baseball season.

titanic only hit the iceburg once. how many times will this ship bash into the burg of bad ball?

and flop go the things, again. that thud you can feel rumbling in from the west is the 2011 wild things season hitting the bottom of the pit (hopefully the bottom).

the st. louis cardinals, like the gateway grizzlies, understand the value of a sacrifice in a tight game. scoreless to the bottom of the eighth, rasmus singles, is sacrificed to second, moves to third on a fly out (to the outfield) and scores on an infield single. cards win 1-0. gee, there's not a rocket scientist anywhere near that dugout, and they figured it out.

Blake Ochoa an All-Star? This guy can’t hit and has spent more time chasing pitched balls he muffed than he has running the bases. What a crock of a choice this is. Gee, why didn’t Ernie Banks make the team the too?
I’m listening to the second game the WT have a six run lead and it sounds like Radio Randy is going to bust his vocal cords, have a heart attack, or something else embarrassing is going to happen to him. What an unabashed homer!

if you watched that circus every night, you'd probably bust your vocal chords or do something embarrassing, too. he doesn't excuse or try to hide their foibles in the least. how's that a homer?

well, there's another "runner at third, less than two out strike out"...willing to bet alot of money that the wild things have about 15% more than the next worse team in the league in that category. can you check that, chris?

Ochoa selected to be the East all star catcher? There must be some mistake here.
Ochoa would not be an all star in a t-ball league. Does this mean Mr. Smiley is going to be the manager of the year? How about Ernie Banks as the MVP? Not so ridiculous as it sounds if Ochoa is an all star catcher.
Is this a nutty world, or what? Maybe one could say, “It’s just The Frontier League, they don’t know an all star from a Girl Scout cookie”!
Ochoa an all star – phooey. INSANE!

You think maybe Randy is objective? Hardly.
Vin Scully he ain't!

Ochoa has no future in baseball unless he can make a dramatic turn-around, and fast. What a travesty
to have this guy selected to the all star team. What could be the reasoning be for his selection? He doesn’t hit, is not an outstanding base runner, and his defense is sub standard. I don’t get it. I guess somebody had to get it but, WHY HIM? I suppose it really doesn’t matter after all is said and done.

I am somewhat surprised at Scott Lawson being chosen given all his base running gaffes.
However, his selection seems much more warranted than that of Ochoa. All the WT pitchers selected deserved the honor.

With Ochoa, is this the lowest average (under 200) of any player picked to the Frontier League allstar team?
Ochoa making the allstar team makes as much sense as Andrew McChutchon not making it.

A quick check of the stats among East Division catchers shows the only 2 starters worthy of the all-star team are indeed the 2 selected, Windy City's Zach Aukhus & Lake Erie's Joel Collins. You're always going to see 3 catchers, and shocking as it may seem, Blake Ochoa does have the next best stats.

Chris Sidick is almost always a lock to make the team, but he's only having a so-so year, sadly.

It looks like it's going to be a long summer in Washington.

No Swiss, it will be a short summer in Washington. The Wild Things will not make the playoffs and the season will end quickly.
Fall doesn't start until the third week of September.

That's true but - Ochoa? Ocaoa?
Oh Lord just how bad can things get? Ochoa - makes me want to upchuck just thinking of this guy
being on any any kind of all star team. Clearly shows the lack of talent in the FL.
