Enough is enough, V2.0

Nearly a month ago, I posted some rules that were to be followed for comments on this blog. They were rather clear: discuss the topic in the post, or a game, series or player. In other words, stay on topic. Also do not snipe at other posters by calling them names.

It seems that some people – the Internet community refers to them as trolls – ignored these rules. I guess it has been an attempt to use an O-R blog to further their agenda rather than add to the topic discussion. Other people have written they will not follow the rules. Others have resorted to using what can best be described as potty humor.

The rules obviously haven't worked. It looks like its time to finally give moderation a try. So starting now, comments will be moderated. That means that if you post a comment, it might take some time to appear. So if the comment is off subject, or inane, or otherwise inappropriate, it will never appear. This is a move I didn't want to make, but it has worked well for other blogs, including several on the O-R site.

I thought things were beginning to calm down a bit. Sometimes delaying the posting might negate it's timeliness due to the fact that there is almost always a game the next day.
As has been said before, and I concur, it's your blog but I don't see how your actions will actually help anything. I will not be wasting my time on this blog if I'm not even sure what I say may be thrown out because you don't like what I say.
Your new method of editing will make this no longer a discussion place but simply a place where all posters must be of like mind to be able to participate. That's not for me.

Listening to the WJPA broadcasters trying to put a positive spin on the WT miserable performance tonight was an absolute hoot!

I go along with the first poster
Seems to me your over reaching just a bit.
I think just removing post is a better way to go. Some of the issues may be time sensitive due to the nature of the game of baseball.
What is wrong with debating the issues as long as it is civil? Just because YOU have no interest in what is being discussed does not mean that we, the readers, and participants should be banned from posting our concerns and issues too does it? Without us, there is no blog.
I don’t want to be restricted to just discussing what you think is an appropriate subject.
The people that have posted here have made it by far the most active blog on the O-R site. That is at least in part to the variety of subjects, and yes, controversy.
I feel you made far too big an issue of a recent post about what might happen at CEP when dogs were allowed to be on the field. For god's sake, it was actually funny. You just grabbed that held on for dear life to make it an excuse to take this action. I find that inexplicable. Is there no room in your life for some humor? If so, I feel bad for you.
If you want to continue to be so arbitrary Chris, than I’m not willing to post here any longer either. I am typing “challenged” and it takes al ong while for me to type even this little bit. Why should I take 20 minutes to 30 minutes to type something if I’m not even sure it will even be seen any anybody? If only approved post are allowed, it will get real boring, real fast. Even if we don’t always agree, we are still all Wild Things fans – let us vent.
Please reconsider.

Previous Anon, I think you're missing the point. If I post a story and the comments are about something else, or people who comment are berated for what they write, then the blog is going to die anyway. I put a lot of time and work into finding subject matter that is relative and (I hope) somewhat interesting. But if the comments are always about the same one or two off-topic subjects or Person A bitching about Person B, then why am I even posting? I'm just wasting my time.

Moderation or registration, I concur with Chris. The trail a select few people have taken this blog down has left the Park Ranger no other choices. It would seem moderation would be the less-intrusive branch...

I totally disagree with that statement

I have a thought/question. Is there ant one out there that could/would start a new blog about the Wild Things? A place were all subjects could be talked about but moderated well enough that the crazy stuff that has happened here won’t be repeated. I like the no Wild Things related issues banned aspect of this idea.
Or, as an alternate, perhaps somebody at the O-R could start a second blog that is less restrictive than the present Wild About Things blog.
I don’t like the direction things have taken here the last few days. I just can’t see the value of it’s even continuing to exist the way it is now.
Anytime somebody refers to the moderator as a Park Ranger has been spending too much time watching Yogi Bear.

If this was about a government agency and the agency did the same thing that Chris did before giving him records of a meeting or whatever, the O-R would go the the state newspapers association and it would result in a lawsuit.
Fortunately nothing like that will happen here.

But this isn't a government agency, school board or borough council. It's a blog.

Park Ranger, Moderator, Sports Editor...call him what you want--somebody has to decide what is "crazy stuff" and what isn't...
