No place like road

Some notes and numbers:

* The Wild Things have a 3-6 record on the road. All three wins have come with right-handed pitcher Justin Hall (pictured) starting on the mound. The numbers for Hall (3-1) are off the charts in the three road games: 3-0 record, 24 innings, 16 hits, 1 earned run, 3 walks and 19 strikeouts. That works out to a 0.38 ERA.

Now, if the Wild Things could figure out how to pitch Hall the first game of each road trip, then get four days of rain, then they'll be OK.

* There was a discussion in the pressbox at Consol Energy Park last week about which division, East or West, will be the dominant one this season. The consensus, based largely on the track records of players and managers, was that the West had more quality teams. That much proved true last week as the West went 23-13 in interdivision play. Of the 13 wins by the East, five were over West cellar-dweller Evansville.

* Through 15 games, Windy City has not hit a home run. None. Zero. Zip. Zilch. The ThunderBolts, however, lead the East by a game over Joliet.

* West Division leader Southern Illinois is 6-0 in one-run games.

There is absolutely no electricity in the air at the field this year. The Wild Things don’t seem to understand that the magic is gone. No real reason to get to the game very much before starting time because there is nothing to see or do but waste your money on some cheap overpriced trinkets.

Tomorrow is Bark in the Park night. Now I really like dogs, they are wonderful creatures and great companions. The Wild Things are giving you a wonderful opportunity to show off just how nice your pet is. This is a promotion to get you into the park and is sponsored by Petco. Here is what makes this so offensive to me. If the Wild Things want you to come and see all the pooch’s , and give your dog a chance to urinate or defecate on the taxpayer turf, to be a part of the show as it were, why charge your poor dog 2 bucks for the privilege? Is Petco not coming up enough to cover all this? Don’t forget to bring your own water and perhaps a small treat for your angel because I’m sure the Wild Things won’t have anything for them. God help you if the mutt bites anybody.

When I arrive at CEP tomorrow night all I want to hear is that Everson has been canned!

I don't think there's anything more asinine than no-lifers who's highlight of the day is making the 10,000th "taxpayer turf" comment on this blog. Damn, it was old two YEARS ago. And you're so upset about it that you continue to shell out your money to watch them play on it? LMAO! The Wild Things could have a championship season (holy fat chance with this cast of unproductive bats) and you folks would STILL be upset about the turf. It's you folks (it's probably only a few people, I'm guessing) who have driven away ALL of the baseball talk on this blog. Congrats, mission accomplished. Yawn......

You can wish and hope for the WT to can Everson all you want. It isn’t going to happen.
The WT prefer for their managers to finish out the season, then make some lame excuse why
he won’t be able to return the next season.
First, the WT will never admit they made a mistake. Firing a manager during the season would make it
obvious that they DID make a mistake.

Second, and most importantly, IF they did finally realize they made a mistake, they would not have the courage to look the man in the eye and hand him his walking papers. It’s just not in the their DNA to have guts. Everson should have been canned last year during the season but he is still hanging around doing the same tired act we saw last year.

For several years now we have been treated to a team with only limited talent, at best. Does anybody in this increasingly fly-by-night organization know how to evaluate baseball talent? The Frontier League is notorious for it’s lack of pitching. Now we have a team that can’t even hit bad pitching.

If the GM makes the decisions regarding the roster, he needs to get his thinking caps on. If Everson makes those judgments, he is as full of crap as the Christmas goose. FOR GOD’S SAKE WT, DO SOMETHING!!
Why not change Everson’s name to Neverson.

When the Wild Things came into the Frontier League 10 years ago, Washington had a new field and was one of the best both in stadium quality and player quality in the Frontier League. You had Chillicothe with little league dugouts, Richmond with an infield that was higher than the outfield, Kalazamo with a fairly new stadium which was not fan friendly and several other dives.
Now, Washington is one of the older fields with little attraction to draw the better players. Radio Randy said his favorite road field was Traverse City and by his discription it sounded like a place players would like to play.
Washington I believe is no longer an attractive place to play. With artificial turf all over, it is no longer a desirable field to play on. At the very least, they need a dirt infield to attract players.
I think we will continue to see less quality players as other much more attractive fields are built. I know most of the newer fields have the concession stands facing the field so when you are in line you can at least see the game rather than miss a big part of the game as in Washington. The Wild Things may in for more losing seasons than the Pirates.

That might take the award as the dumbest statement ever written on this blog......... unless you're saying the location of the concession stands in Washington makes it harder to attract players. That dumb statement would trump your previous dumb statement.

If you want to continue to discuss urination and defecation, then by all means continue to make those comments. I will, however, continue to delete 'em until you get the discussion above a grade school boys restroom level.

If you need a refresher course, here are the rules, taken from a previous post:

* Discuss the topic in the post. You can go off-topic to discuss a game, series, player or something current. We've had enough "taxpayer turf" comments on every post to last a lifetime. The turf is in, I've blogged about it. You've commented about it … again and again. Until the topic is brought up again in a post, comments referring to "taxpayer turf" will be deleted.

* Do NOT snipe at other posters by calling them *$$, moron, or some body part. I'm not going to put up with comments that that sound as if they're written by a 10-year-old who wants to use words he overheard in the grade school restroom. In other words, do not engage in name-calling or use derisive nicknames. If you do, the comments will be deleted.

Please Ron (Brett Favre) Wilson, be a man of your word and stay retired!

I AM a man of my word. I was passing a message aimed at one person. Why don't you try being a man and use your real name if you want to attack me. Chris, why wasn't this post deleted? It has nothing at all to do with the Wild Things, or this thread. You allow personal attacks such as this but won't allow legitimate issues, such as you know what, to be discussed. You are allowing personal attacks against me because you don't want me to say any more about you know what. I consider this a breach of fair play. This is NOT the first time you have done this and I’m getting as tired of it as you are of my post.

Folks, there comes a time when you have to say enough is enough and admit some things just aren't worth all the effort you put into them. I might have reached that point. When you're deleting posts about defecating and urinating, and deleting posts because one person is calling another person a name, you have to say that we're sounding like my three children -- five years ago. Is this a true representation of Wild Things fans? Potty jokes and name calling? Geeeeez.

“When you're deleting posts about defecating and urinating, “

I happened to have read that post where the terms above were used before you deleted it Chris, you are using the quote completely out of context. The post was about have dogs walking on the watcha’ might callit’ dare I use the forbidden word, turf? The ppost was calling attention that dogs just might do what dogs actually do. The proper (correct) words were use. If one is not adult to understand that then what words would you suggest?
The words s*** and p*** certainly would not be very appropriate would they? That post did not have the ring of anything other than a comment about allowing dogs on citizen funded surface.
What’s the bid deal about that?

My concern is not so much for this blog or it’s content. I’m one that believes in free speech. It makes no difference if it is a blog, or a political rally. Proper decorum should be observed, no filthy words, personal attacks, etc. I don’t like restrictions on what can or cannot be discussed. If an individual does not like a post
then move on to one that suits you better. It’s really that simple. Be both tolerant and civil. Is that so hard?

What concerns me much more than the fate of this blog is the fate of the Wild Things as a viable entity in Washington. Every time I enter CEP I get this, for lack of a better word, feeling. Something is just not right. There seems to be something missing. A lack of anticipation, not much going on except people milling around trying to pass time until the game gets underway. I miss a lot of my friends that have just given up hoping for a good season, or just have become so bored with the ‘sameness’ game after game, and year after year. These nice people have surrendered their season ticket holder status because of the feeling they are not appreciated or taken for granted. There is also a palpable lack of confidence in the management.
The Wild Things started out with a lot of success and have somehow drifted off into less than mediocrity.
The disturbing thing is that they don’t seem to know what to do about it. I sure don’t have the answers but,
I’m not in the baseball/entertainment business either. For me the biggest headache of all is the concession stands – why in Lords name can’t they do a better job than they are at the present time? Beats me.
Anyway, I sense something in the air that leads me to believe that all is not well at CEP.

Yes, I was there last night and enjoyed a fairly well played game.
I also noticed that Ernie Banks, the man now turned child, has a Mohawk cut. Grow up Ernie.
You’re not exactly a superstar. Just another example of Everson’s running a tight ship, I guess.
It looks like the Wild Things team will soon want to be called “Motley Crue”
