Riverhawks owner: Rockford returning to Frontier League

The Rockford Riverhawks are returning to the Frontier League.

Riverhawks owner Dave Ciarrachi told WREX-TV in Rockford that the team will leave the North American Baseball League and play in the Frontier this season. The switch comes on the heels of Chris Hanners, owner of the Chillicothe Paints during their days in the Frontier, joining the Riverhawks' ownership group. He replaces longtime Riverhawks owner Kurt Carlson.

The Riverhawks are returning to the league in which they played from 2002 through 2009.

Ciarrachi told the television station that the North American Baseball League recently had two teams pull out, and with five road trips on the schedule that require air travel, which is an added expense, the RiverHawks decided to leave the league.

"Collectively the move back to the Frontier League made a lot of good business sense," Ciarrachi told WREX. "The league provides us with good financial stability."

Hanners is expected to take over Carlson's duties on the business side. Carlson still owns Road Ranger Stadium, home of the RiverHawks.

Carlson, by the way, is the brother of Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos.

Chillicothe installed artifical turf and left the Frontier League.
Is this a predition of the future for Washington and the taxpayer turf.

Chillicothe left the league because they weren't competing with attendance numbers compared to other teams...hard to make $$$ when you have 100 people in the stands

It's good to see some person finally admit that it's all about the money. I mean the money for the owners and those that are pushing their agenda. It has absolutely NOTHING about what is, or is not, good for the area. Anybody with a lick of common sense knows that tourist are not coming to Washington unless they happen to need gas while driving down the Interstate. They can then get ripped off by the gas station near I-70 and get out of here as soon as possible without damaging the under carriage of their car on our well manicured streets. (Are we silly to be so proud of them?). This crap about how the turf will increase tourism is pure BS with no basis in fact.
It’s all about Stu Williams, the ownership group, Tim Consolobay, and the tourism bureau, or whatever it’s called, getting a large chunk of the pie at taxpayer expense. Come to think of it, isn’t it sort of ironic that the tourism folks are located in an abandoned old railroad station? There is not any passenger trains going by the place and almost the same number of tourist to ride around in the new car they got out of all this convoluted mess. I suppose they could always show them downtown Washington – looks just like Detroit – on a smaller scale of course. I suppose it would be nice someday to stand around in front of the first crematorium. How thrilling is that? Sort of like being the first place to bury a man on his head.I wish BS was gold because these people would already be rich without dipping into our pockets.

Where you work is either:
1) all about the money, or
2) government job.

Yet another miserable, southwestern Pennsylvania malcontent.

The field is paid for by revenues from the hotel room tax, as was the Agency's vehicle, which saved the agency plenty of money (eliminated mileage reimbursements). Something beside the shale drillers is driving up occupancy in the county's hotel rooms--so much so that more and more hotels are being built throughout the county.

Sit around with your irritable, malcontent buddies (both of them) and complain about anything and everything. Then, continue to read, attend, those very things that most upset you.

I get it now - we let the poor miserable people from someplace else pay for it. I guess that does make it right after all. God, am I ever dumb.
We are making millions from drilling and still fleece somebody with taxation. When they finally go home, probably to a place in the 'real world', they will have paid for just about everything here that hasn't been rusted way because of our neglect.
So, when all is said and done, it REALLY ISN’T tourist we want here after all - which is laughable from the git-go - we just want somebody, anybody, to spent money here in Little Detroit.
I’ve lived here all my life and have yet to understand how so many crooked politicians, and their cronies,
have been able to fool so many people for so long. What we need is some individuals, you obviously not included, that have actually, at least once lived in the real world, to take a leadership position. With the area full of Barry Stout’s, Tim Solobay’s, Larry Maggi’s, etc., etc., there is NO credibility left here at all. Good Ol’ Boys all is what they are. When you see one coming toward you, drop to your knees or jump up to shake their hand. BUT, be real careful that you keep a close eye on their other hand because what is in it will soon be stuck in your back. You, it is easy to see, have drunk the Kool Aid in massive amounts OR – you are one of them! I suspect the latter.
I can hardly wait to see who the sucker is that gets the franchise to take those lucky tourist through Little Detroit. (BTW: Big Detroit is in Michigan. Look it up on Google Earth street view, then tell me, except for the size of the place, what is the difference between here and there?)
So, is it tourist that bought the WT the turf, or is it the gas drilling folks.? Or, was it about four cents from every PA. taxpayer. Time to get your story straight, don’t you think?
I’ll guess I should be a true SW PA. person and just be deaf, dumb, and ‘go along to get along’.
That isn’t going to happen! Take it to the bank – BUT NOT YOUR PIGGY BANK!!

I feel sorry for anyone who wants to discuss baseball on this blog. The crabby miserable old farts (is everybody in Washington one?) have probably chased them all away with their constant bitching and moaning about everybody and everything. Sad.

Maybe they are coming here for a good laugh. Could be they are being smart and just passing through. How about the fact the general population is growing. Show me just about anyplace where the hotel and motel business hasn’t grown. Most folks don’t want to hassle of airports, and the TSA groping their “junk”.
It seems since you were the one that made the statement; you should be able to back it up with something else than a vague “Something”. Drug trafficking, and use, is also a larger than you might think factor in the industry. I just saying…..
Anyway, what’s all the fuss now. What’s done is done. Do I like it? Not one little bit I must say that I am not in disagreement with the comments about the politics here. The poster left out Mr. DeWeese – a disgrace to the United States Marine Corps. However, he keeps on getting reelected. No rocket scientist in Green County, either.
Anyway, I’ve lived a lot of places and it’s the same everywhere. It is a dirty business run by less than honorable people, at least in most places. Washington Country is no different than Orange County, California, or Roanoke, VA. Until the nature of politic changes here, we can never expect anything except more of the same. It is just a matter of these folks covering up in a different way.
I’m ready to watch some baseball at the new, and some would say improved, CEP. I doubt the “improved” part.

The ones that support the marauders of our wallets, such as Senator Solobay, the Wild Things, et al; would just love to silence their detractors by making derisive comments about those that refuse to be afraid of speaking out. These “supporters” just can’t believe that the taxpayers don’t think that our elected officials do not have our best interest in mind. How dare ANYBODY, young or old, question his or her motives?
The question is not about being young, old, outspoken, or anything else. The taxpayers have a right to question our employees even if they are a State Senator. A quick review of Mr. Solobay’s actions since obtaining public office certainly should give us reason to be concerned. How about voting for a pay raise for himself almost as his first action as a State Representative. He went along with his friends probably because he wanted to be a ‘people pleaser’ and wanted to become of member in good standing with his buddies. Of course this happened in the middle of the night – on a weekend when nobody was looking, at least that’s what they thought. Then, shortly after being elected as State Senator, there was the Super Bowl trip disgrace. No small wonder that so many think this man will take advantage of his position of power. I’m sure most of us know the saying about what power does to a person.

So, call names, say or think whatever you wish. Try to intimidate with the your written word. Be afraid to sign whatever statement you make. You don’t even phase me. And you sure as hell are not going to intimidate me. You will only take away my right to speak when you shoot me dead.

I support The Washington Wild Things right to make as much money as they can. I don’t think they have to right to use even one cent of taxpayer funds. Don’t tell me it happens everywhere because that does not make it right. Fire away, at lest you know who your shooting at.

If you hate everything about the Wild Things, why do you go to the games, post on a blog about the franchise, etc?
