Turf work resumes

Work on the conversion of Consol Energy Park from a grass and dirt field to an all-synthetic surface resumed last week. The Wild Things posted several photos on their Facebook page. Here's one that shows the bullpen mounds will be along the foul lines instead of behind the outfield fences.

Too bad Govenor Corbit was not in office two years ago. There would be no WAMS money to finance the taxpayer turf.

Thank good 'ol Timmy Consolobay.
I sure hope Mr. Williams will give signals when he turns so Timmy doesn't break his neck!

I hope the whole thing backfires on Solobay, the Wild Things, Consol Energy, and the
Washington County Tourism guys. Don’t forget the Wild Things will be buying them a new car.
Now, how the hell did that get thrown into the mix? Can you spell S-o-l-o-b-a-y?
We are so blessed to have such people leading us and, at the same time, wasting our money!

Can't wait to see the field. Best thing to happen to baseball in Washington in a decade. Now you have a real field in Washington and not a glorified swamp that's more suited for mud bogging than b-ball.

"Now you have a real field in Washington and not a glorified swamp"

Then why didn't YOU pay for it?
Real baseball is played on real grass. If all the geniuses that decided to build
a ballpark would have done it right we, the taxpayers would not be paying to
repair it now.
Like everything else in Washington County, the taxpayers get to pay for mistakes
that are not of their doing. If the Wild Things screwed it up than let them fix it
themselves.
As a professional amateur organization, or is it a amateur professional organization,
one would think they would be a little more self-reliant for God’s sake.
I also hope the political maneuvering with little Timmy Solobay blows up in their
faces.
What is this stuff about a new car for the tourism people? What does that have to do with
this?

Tiny Tim will probably get to drive it I suppose.
Come to think about a waste of taxpayer money, I think that paying
Tiny Tim is a real big waste of taxpayer funds. Doesn't Consol Energy pay as well as they used to?

"Can't wait to see the field."

Looks as if the Wild Things management is starting to post their own propaganda here. Nothing they do would come as a shock to me.

I know expectations are high for Blake Ochoa. I hope he can live up to them. It seems that he is climbing DOWN the ladder of success instead of up the ladder. How can a guy go from AAA PCL to the lowly
Frontier League and be taken too seriously by anybody? He will probably be a very good Frontier League
player but I don’t think we are looking at the next Johnny Bench here either.
I never get too exited when the Wild Things start ramping up the hype on a player. They have done that too many times in the past only to have it end up as so much BS.

What about the first base coach, the bench coach, the beer, and the greasy stale food. The ushers are nothing to write home about, and the ticket takers suck, too.
See, there is still a lot of things to complain about. So don't be so negative.

While I appreciate everyone's concern for tax payer dollars (and I am as conservative as they come), I wonder how the folks here feel about the fact that all the other ballparks in the Commonwealth are receiving money from the state....actually a lot more than The Wild Things. I think Altoona got 1.8 million from the state, and it's not the first time. Even Pullman Park in Butler got more money than Washington. I know two wrongs don't make a right, but c'mon...should everyone else get our tax payer dollars?

If you don’t have an objection to all this crap, than you are a part of the problem. I guess you are
saying just what the Wild Things have said, “Everybody else is doing it so, why not us too”.
If ol’ Timmy Consolobay jumps off a roof than I think Mr. Williams do the same thing. Why not?
I really proud of the few local people that have objected to this abuse of public funds. Most people in
Washington County would not say “crap” if it were being stuffed down their throats. BTW, in this case it is.
Wonder what ol’ Timmy got for his part in this fiasco. The tourism folks got a new car, the Wild Things got their phony grass… oh yea, Timmy got his fat butt to the Super Bowl. We are know now that, after he got caught, that it was just a loan. I just know in my heart that Tommy would NOT accept a gift from Consol Energy. I’m sure the taxpayers know that too! Good ol’ Timmy will be paying it all back…..wink, wink…..

If Natural Grass and Curmudgeon (are they the same person?) got this worked up over the money (roughly four cents per person in Pennsylvania) granted to cover a new playing field at the Consol Park, I can't imagine what they did when they were put on the hook for the following:

$ More than $40 million for Consol Energy Center.
$ $12 million for the minor league stadium in State College.
$ $4 million to renovate an 80-year-old garbage dump called Point Stadium in Johnstown.
$ Two renovations of the stadium in Reading in the last 20 years, totaling more than $5 million.
$ $10.8 million to build the Altoona Curve's stadium.
$ More than $14 million to build the Phillies' minor league stadium in the Lehigh Valley.
$ More than $18.2 million to renovate the awful stadium in Harrisburg for a minor league team that was sold for only $13 million.
$ $12 million to build a stadium in Lancaster.

And that doesn't count Heinz Field and PNC Park, the arena and stadiums in Philadelphia, and any state money that went into expansion of the football stadium at Penn State.

I hope Natural Grass and Curmudgeon called out their state politicians on those. That's a lot of money for parks that a couple of old farts in Washington won't be using.

And if you really want something to get red-faced about, how about us taxpayers picking up the tab of more than $1.1 million each year to fund the lieutenant governor's office, which is a useless position in this state.

Natural Grass and Curmudgeon are NOT the same person. I know because I'm one of them.

As for me, I'd rather have that 4 cents in my pocket instead of the Wild Things pocket. After all the money the fans have spent at CEP and now those cheap attorneys still want another 4 cents? How freakin' petty of them. If Timmy Consolobay had not stuck his nose into it they could have raised the admission price. Then we would all
have a choice as to whether or not to give them the 4 cents.
I agree with you about the lieutenant governor's office. However, I believe it is required by law that there is such a thing.
That should be addressed elsewhere.
This blog, I think, is limited to issues concerning the Wild Things.
