One less pitcher
Trying to keep up with the rosters of an independent league team is often soften similar to putting your finger in a leak, only to have another leak spring somewhere else. You're always playing catch-up.
Here's one example:
The North American Baseball League (another independent league that was formed this year as the merger between the Northern, Golden and United leagues) listed on its homepage Thursday that the Lake County Fielders have acquired right-handed pitcher Chris Bennett in a trade with the Wild Things in exchange for future considerations.
Today, the NABL transactions had Lake County announcing that Bennett has retired.
The Wild Things and Frontier League haven't announced anything about the trade.
I guess this means that Bennett won't be at spring training next week.

Now if they could just trade in the taypayer turf.
What? Do you want to destroy in tourism industry in Washington County? Perhaps you are just looking out for the abused taxpayers that attend Wild Things games.
One thing for sure; As long as there is a Shorty's Lunch there will always be tourism.
You are right about Shorty's.
They are secussful because they don't take taxpayer funds.

That is real Capitalism at work. The Wild Things want something for next to nothing. The sad part is that they get what they want – either by hook OR by crook. I think it might the latter rather than the former. Certain politicians and Agencies lobby VERY hard on their behave. These individuals want us to think that because the money only comes from a hotel and room tax that it is NOT a tax on Washington County residents. The reasoning here seems to be that it is fine to use non-resident taxpayer funds for this purpose because we don’t think of them as real citizens of the United States. They are just some sort of scum passing through this tourist Mecca. Go figure.
Did the 2 previous posters ever hear of "spell check"??? Quality Washington County education on display!
How do you use spell check within a blog?
Have a better than third grade education.
"How do you use spell check within a blog?"
Actually know how to spell, then, before clicking "PUBLISH YOUR COMMENT", turn your brain on and check.
So there is no way to do spell check within this blog.
Taxpayer and turf I believe are spelled correctly.
However, they two words together are not proper English. (just political English).
Yet another village is searching for its idiot....and he showed up here. Clue and less are spelled correctly and, together, they clear, accurately and suscinctly describe you.
Chris, for Pete's sake, please disable the comments option on this blog. To "Natural Grass" and all the anonymous posters who bitch about "taxpayer turf" on each post they make (for all we know, it's the exact same guy), I say......where is Jim Jones with his Kool-Aid to put you out of your misery? Wow buddy....get a LIFE already! It's no wonder that anybody who actually enjoys talking about BASEBALL stays well clear of this blog.
Without a comments option it's not a Blog. You just can't handle the truth..moron
So, no dirt, no spikes, no bad hops, no digging in at the plate or pitchers ‘grooming’ the mound. Now another poster wants no complaining about the bastardization of baseball. Wants us to speak only nice and talk real baseball. Or, shut the Blog down. Why just not read it? Sounds like the tourist guy to me! Diverting attention about how all this stuff was financed. Hey, when we see some REAL baseball then we will have something else to discuss.
Also, I also want so see no spitting on the taxpayer’s turf. After all the health of the players must be considered in this mix of trying to make very marginal baseball players look like real pros. Nobody wants their kids to be sliding in someone’s spit, do they? Ty Cob, Ted Williams, and Mickey Mantle must be spinning in their graves. Baseball, at least the Frontier League style, is turning the players into sissies – why not just require them to wear lace panties! Just think about how many pitchers’ arms they would save from painful injuries if they would just turn it into a damn Tee Ball League.
Natural
Nat....ass, it's been well chronicled how the artificial surface at Consol Energy Park was financed.
Washington County Tourism Promotion Agency, with the concurrance of the Board of Commissioners of Washington County, committed $50,000 per year over a period of 10 years from the proceeds of the hotel/motel/B&B room tax levy. The vote of the Tourism Agency Board was taken at a public meeting, open for all to see.
In return for the financial commitment, the Tourism Promotion Agency receives, get this, PROMOTIONAL EXPOSURE through the stadium and other avenues associated with the facility and team.
This tax, designated by the state legislature and approved by the voters of Washington County, is for the sole and exclusive purpose of promoting/developing tourism in Washington County.
It has also been well chronicled here and elsewhere that you are/were opposed to the artificial surface, or at the very least, to it being installed with the aforementioned funding stream.
Your saying something over and over and over ad naseum doesn't change the facts. The facts are here, in plain sight to be read. They are as they are listed above.
Opinions are like a**holes. Everyone has one, and nobody wants to hear it over and over. We're hearing Natural's on the same tired subject far too often.
“Natural” is entitled to his opinion. I’m sure any clear thinking person should be able to understand the ‘fix’ was, and is, in. When he opposed government actions by duly elected scoundrels the reporter Tom Nast concluded that there are at least two kinds of graft used by officials to make certain their point prevailed. The first, and most commonly used is; “honest graft’ where everything appears to be above board and, most of all ‘legal’. The second type of graft is “dishonest graft” where money is openly extracted for use to gain political advantage. I not saying ANY type of graft was used in this process. However, as long as the voters of Washington County keep electing ‘good government’ Democrats, you can expect this same sort of thing to continue. Decades of Democrat rule in the County has netted us one of the most run down areas one can imagine The Democrat unions have run the steel factories, as well other manufactories, out of town. They WILL NOT be back.
Union greed, supported by the Democrat Party, have killed what was once a thriving community
Well, you get the government you deserve. Apparently, a lot of folks enjoy living in squalor.
Once again the taxpayer foots the bill for things such as a sports facility AND, for the almost hilarious effort to make people think Washing County is, or may be, a tourist attraction. Other than Shorty’s and the Trolley Museum at Arden, this county is as dead as Jacob Marley.
Somebody out there is getting their blood pressure way too high and resorting to name calling – the type of thing you would expect from a guilty party, or a child.
I’m ready to end this debate and watch some baseball.
Ron Wilson
Don't forget to point out the typos. I'm not as perfect as the ones thar have ruined the County. They have had more practice than I.
If you don't understand the message, it's because you don't want to!
