Nicknames that are Nutz

The Normal, Ill., franchise that is planning to enter the Frontier League in 2010 has trimmed its list of potential team nicknames to four. Almost 1,500 entries were submitted in a name-the-team contest, and here are the Final Four:

Nutz
Nighthawks
Coal Bears
CornBelters

If these were the four best nicknames, I don't want to know what the rejected ones were. Nighthawks is obviously the best of the four, but it's too similar to the Rockford Riverhawks. The Normal Nutz is laughable. The Coal Bears might have something to do with mining in the Normal area, but again it's too similar to the Southern Illinois Miners. CornBelters also falls into the laughable category but is even cornier (I can't believe I just typed that) than Nutz.

Coal Bears is the early favorite based on voting on the franchise's homepage. Nutz was the most-suggested nickname of the four finalists.

Chris,
What other teams are likely in 2010. Will this be an expansion or movement from another city?

Woodstock, Ill., also has targeted 2010 for the completion of a ballpark for a Frontier League team. That would bring the league to 14 teams, though I have some concerns about Waterford, Mich., the supposed home of the Oakland County Cruisers (the current Midwest Sliders). That ballpark was supposed to be open for the start of the 2009 season, then it was pushed back to mid-summer 2009. Now, it's 2010. But I've yet to hear anything about a shovel being put in the ground in Waterford (bank funding there is reportedly almost nonexistent). I know the ownership group has checked into the possibility of building a ballpark in Ypsilanti, Mich., where the Sliders will play this season.

There's controversy and conspiracy theory in Normal, IL regarding the naming of the team. Check out www.normalcoalbears.com for the inside scoop!

Reading the article by Joe Tuscano about Chris Sidick you would think that Mr. Sidick was a real All-American good guy. The fact is that he is a loud, foul mouth jerk. Anybody that has any ‘inside’ information knows that Sidick is one of the most hated and dirty players in the FL. If there is such a thing as a thug in the FL – he qualifies!
He is, without doubt, one of the better players in the League but lacks the essentials (class) to EVER be anything more than what he is now. He claims to have had “opportunities” but prefers to stay here. Sounds like fear of failure to me.
Perhaps, as he finally begins to mature, if he ever does, Mr. Sidick will learn to control his foul mouth and smart a** attitude. The last thing he needs is an apologist writing a glowing article about a less than classy person. Talk about putting a spin on something, Mr. Tuscano did a masterful job on this one.

The above comments describe 80% of the WT players since the circus was brought to our town.

Talk about the "pot calling the kettle black." The people here criticize Chris Sidick for being a foul mouth, but then refer to him or his attitude as an "expletive." How does that make you any better? Think about it.

The Wild Things should sign Jamal.
If he does not make the baseball team, he could be the locker room attendant.
Jamal sure spreads a lot of dirty laundry. Jamal, put your talent to use.
