You thought the Astros had it bad...

If you thought the Houston Astros received raw deal by having to play two "home" games against the Chicago Cubs in Milwaukee, then check out what has happened to the Kalamazoo Kings in the Frontier League championship series.

Because of flooding in Kalamazoo, particularly at Homer Stryker Field (what a great name for a ballpark), the entire championship series has been moved to Windy City's Standard Bank Stadium beginning tonight. Kalamazoo will be the home team in Games 1,2 and 5.

Homer Stryker Field, pictured, was flooded Monday, a day before the Kings were to open the series against the Windy City Thunderbolts. Neither team has played since winning their first-round series Sept. 9.

The Kalamazoo River, which runs alongside Mayors' Riverfront Park near the stadium, crested Sunday night, causing more than three feet of water to flood the field, dugouts and grandstands.

``If a picture is worth 1,000 words, this one is worth 10,000,'' Kings manager Fran Riordan todl the Kalamazoo Gazette late Monday morning.

``We obviously would've liked to play the series in both cities, but this also demonstrates to our fans how Frontier League teams can work together,'' Frontier League commissioner Bill Lee said.

Doesn't look as if any one cares about the Frontier League play-offs!

nobody cares because the park in Kalamazoo is under 3 feet of water? That comment makes no sense.

I care a great deal. It's a great time to be a Windy City fan, I can see all of the championship games this year. A shame I couldn't have made games 3 and 4 last year, but at least I got to see the Bolts clinch it at home!!!

Must have been a drag for you guys though, I know the Things didn't react too well after the game. Didn't react at all actually.

It's quality, not quantity. Unless you're talking about championships. Reguarless of what happens in the FLCS this year, we're still ahead in that reguard ;)

I was on route 70 west and got off at Chestnut St. Wow, what a traffic jam for the concert tonight. The traffic was backed up to the Jessop Place exit. I wonder how much they charged for parking tonight?
With the parking revenue from tonight, they could improve the outfield drainage and we would not have any more "puddles in the park".

It probably wont matter about the puddles in the field seeing as how Bill Lee believes or says that every team, including Washington, will have the new turf ala Traverse City, Southern Ill, and Chilli. If im not mistaken I believe Windy City is doing this for '09.

Gateway will NEVER have fake grass.

you're probably mistaken about Windy City.

I keep up with team news, and I've not heard anything about installing artificial turf here.

And God I hope they don't ever. I've seen the stuff they have down in Marion, and it's ugly as hell. Plastic, fake looking, carpet infield, lines that are too perfect, and a "mound" that looks like a fossilized dinosaur dropping. It would go a long way to ruining my enjoyment of the game.

And Bosse Field in Evansville is a 100 year old landmark. I doubt they'd ever put turf in there.

Putting drainage in Washington would be a lot cheaper than toupee turf. You may have to cut and maintain grass, but as long as you don't play soccer, have concerts, or bull riding, it will last longer than the Wild Things reign in Washington.
I wonder if they are still using the portable pitching mound that was used when they played soccer on the field?

Kalamazoo must have felt like the Sliders playing the championship series at Windy City all three games.
Even Greg Jelks could not have overcome that situation.

It was a sweep, the first two games weren't even close. The 'Bolts earned the title.

Kalamazoo got to bat last and were given as many other "home field" perks as possible (including both teams uniforms)

If they're completely incapable of winning even one away game, then they didn't deserve to win a championship and likely would have lost the series anyway.
