What a way to win a game

The Wild Things managed to stave off elimination for at least one more day by beating the Florence Freedom 6-5 in 12 innings Sunday afternoon at Champion Window Field. The winning run scored when Brad Arnett hit an inside-the-park homer.

Arnett's fly ball down the left-field line dropped just inside fair territory out of the reach of the Florence left fielder, who tumbled over the retaining wall. By the time he could climb back over the wall and get the ball, Arnett was on his way to the inside-the-park homer.

Above is a photo of Champion Window Field from our friends at digitalballparks.com. You can click ont he image for a larger view and see the wall the outfielder went over while trying to catch Arnett's hit down the line.

If you haven't visited digitalballparks.com, then you should. Trust me, you'll like it and spend at least 30 minutes on the site.

Gateway wins!! Ha Ha – the WT get what they so richly deserve – NOTHING!
Not only is this the end of the season for the WT but also the beginning of the end for the franchise. It actually began when they made the STUPID move to hire Jelks. What an ultra stupid blunder that was.
Don’t tell me about injuries because they happen to ALL teams. The 2008 WT were losers from the first game of the season. Something about this team didn’t ‘click’ at all, not with themselves or the fans.. Everybody could see it from the very start.
A lot of the players made fools of themselves with their outrageous demeanor that was very disliked by most of the fans that witnessed it. Yes, I blame that on Jelks too!
Time to hibernate until next spring. If Jelks returns you will see me at some other event than a WT game. I vote with my wallet – what’s in there WILL stay there because I will give none of it to watch a Jelks managed team loaded with cry baby brats!

Fine then to the fan above. Obviously your just a fair weather fan and the wildthings would be better off without you attending these games.

Another anonymous super genius. He knows everything about nothing. You are a racist. If Jelks were a white man you would be kissing his backside.I would prefer you go somewhere else and spend money. The fans don't need you and the Wildthings don't need you.I'm sure 4 dollar a gallon gas was Jelks fault too.

6-7 with seasons and playoffs right? Please correct me if I'm wrong. I cannot believe that missing the playoffs one time in a franchise's career means they are done. Amen to those of you that will still watch the games with me.

I agree with the guy that some jerk called a racist. It IS all Jelks fault. And don’t call me a racist ‘cause I don’t even like horses!

If you want to place the blame in one place, lay it right at the feet of the lockerroom malcontents who were interested in one thing, and one thing only, this season--promoting their own personal interests, on and off the field.

Not Greg Jelks, not Ross Vecchio.

A crop of selfish, look at what I'm doing, notice me type players overran a team that had avoided such issues in the past.

And the team WILL avoid them again in the future.

WJPA's Randy Gore named Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year.

Observer-Reporter named Frontier League Newspaper of the Year.

Congrats to both.

Wow! A guy that doesn't know how to say "swing". Must just pass it around between the various broadcasters.

Chris Dugan deserves any award he gets just for covering the Whiney Things.

Also, why is it 'racist' to say anything negative about Jelks?

Well, that makes Leo Trich a racist because he said something bad about McCain and something good about the other guy - what's his name?

BTW: I didn't see that other guy at CEP so I suppose the entire WT organization is racist! Right?

It's pretty bad when someone (anonymous)gets on here and criticizes Randy Gore for earning Frontier League's Broadcaster of the Year, when they do not know Randy personally or know how hard he works at his job.

Randy STILL can't say "swing' correctly. Shows just how bad FL broadcasters are. Not shocking because the entire League is not very good.

I saw Leo hanging around with the Steelworkers Union people last night at CEP. Unions, stupid letters,Dumbocrats - this man is soooo dumb he just has to be a donkey. But does he really have to bring so much bad bad press onto the entire WT organization? They already have enough problems. The stands a just buzzing about how stupid it was to write that letter to the O-R.
He is entitled to his thoughts but some things are better left unsaid. Now a lot of people at CEP are sniping at both him and his wife, behide his back though. What an idiot.

I've worked beside Randy Gore for more than 4 years. I've listened, start to finish, to nearly every Wild Things' game that I wasn't working. I've never noticed anything about the way he says "swing."

What I have noticed is that he is a very dedicated, communicator of information and entertainment. He puts in endless hours in preparation and information gathering.

Randy Gore has worked very hard over the years that he's been the radio voice of the Washington Wild Things. He has taken constructive criticism to heart and put the suggestions to use--every single day.

I don't know whether Randy says "swing" correctly or not. I know that he doesn't say it so badly that it sticks out to me, and I've listened alot, likely as much as anybody. But, frankly, I don't care whether he has difficulty saying "swing" or not.

I know what the score is, who's on base and where, who's hitting, who's pitching, what they've done in similar situations in the past, what needs to happen for the Wild Things to win, what needs to happen for the Wild Things to make the playoffs, what kind of things happened on the bus or at the hotel or around the clubhouse.

And I know most of those things because Randy Gore told us them, night after night after night.

Randy Gore has sharpened his broadcast skills. He has honed his style. He delivers a professional product for us.

Randy Gore is very deserving of the Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year Award.

And I seriously hope that Randy is with us for another 20 years of Wild Things baseball on WJPA, whether he EVER learns to say "swing" to your satisfaction or not.

Randy is great. I've not noticed swing, but if he does maybe it is his personality coming through like "slud into third" or "how bout that?"

This is to Mr. Anonymous, that talked about "SWING". The G in swing is not silent. I think you better go check your Webster's dictionary and look up the proper pronouncition of the word. The G is pronounced in the word, or BOB WAlK, GREG BROWN, and EVERY OTHER ANNOUNCER IN HISTORY has been SAYING IT WRONG TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I, like Bob Gregg, have listened to every "WildThings" game that I can't be at for the last four years. I, also, think Randy Gore does a great job calling the games. I have gotten to know Randy personally over the last couple of years and he deserves this Honor.
Congratulations, Randy!

I will not be cheap about my comments. Randy deserves the broadcaster of the year. He has improved every year to the extent that I would rather listen to Randy than Bob Gregg or Mark Urah.
You complainers, remember the former Wild Things broadcaster, Bobble head Ned.
Randy on day 1 was an improvement.
I am sure this has been a real tough year on Randy with the Wild Things problems, but Randy was a true broadcaster no matter how bad the game got and I am sure the players respected him also.
PS-I envey Randy in that with a press pass, he does not have to pay the $3.oo parking fee.

One of those guys says 'swing' to wrong way. They both say it a different way so which one is correct. One of them HAS to be saying in wrong. Don't be such a dunderhead.
