Back in baseball mode

Sorry I haven't posted anything in the last few days. This is the time of the year - football tabloid time - when a sports writer's life involves production of the daily edition and the football tab and nothing else. A member of the O-R's staff said it best about a week ago when he uttered "My wife could leave me today and I wouldn't notice for another eight days." Sadly, he probably wasn't exaggerating.

Anyway, moving on the Wild Things, who are two games behind Traverse City for the final playoff spot with 12 games (6 at home, 6 on the road) remaining. Here are a few links to check out. The first is from Bob Gregg at WJPA Radio. It's the wild card standings with remaining schedules for each contender. The second is a story about former Wild Things second baseman Kyle Werman getting a new coaching job and the last is the Frontier League power ratings from a service that uses only statistical data. Enjoy:

Wild card standings, schedules.

Werman story.

FL power ratings.

You better believe they'll charge for parking. And it won't be the measley $3 for a baseball game parking. It probably will be $5 like for the Styxx show last night.

How many parking lots do the Wild Things own?

I don't believe the Wild Things own any parking lot which is amazing that they charge $3.00 parking for a baseball game and gouge the public even more for concerts.
Baseball Scholarships own the parking lot. Am I right Phil or Leo?

I don't think that BSI owns the parking lot. I think BSI built it and turned over to the WT. Anyway, Thriftyone 'gouge' IS indeed the operative word. I'm so ticked off about the Styx parking fee rip-off that I won't bother going to any 'special' event again. I'm sure as Hell not going to walk up there from the mall parking lot either.
The WT things know they have a fat hod by the a** and they milk it for all it's worth. Screw them!

It's $5 to park your car at Kennywood. It's a lot more at PNC Park or Heinz Field. When you think about it, $5 is cheap. The PG Pavillion includes the price of parking in its ticket service charge - service charges, now that's something to bitch about as being a ripoff - so you have no idea how much they are charging for parking there but I bet they charge more than $5.

I heard on the news today that the McCain tickets are free. They did not say anything about parking. Several years ago I was shocked at the $5 parking for concerts. Having bought the season parking tickets for Wild Things game @ $2 each, and having a few extra, I offered to give the parking attendent for the concert two parking tickets and they refused.
The last time I was at Kennywood, you could pay for parking (up close) or have free parking further away. I don't think the Wild Things own any of the facilty, parking lot or stadium, and lease the total facility. With Baseball Scholarships owning the whole complex and being exempt from real estate taxes. Am I right Leo or Phil?
Also part of the reason for high parking in Pittsburgh whether for sporting events or down town parking is the 45% parking tax in the city of Pittsburgh. North Franklin does not have a parking tax yet. When the supervisors put one in, the parking will probably rise to $5 for Wild Things games and $7 OR $8 for concerts.
Also remember, we are not seeing a major league team when they talk about the higher prices at Pirates or Steeler games for parking.

Wild Card standings page now includes the following tie-breakers for all Wild Card possible teams:

Head-to-head records and runs scored/allowed in those head-to-head games.

By the way, Chris, thanks for the Blog, even if it gets WAY off topic sometimes.

Getting off topic is what makes this blog interesting. If we had stayed on topic after the playoffs last year, there would never have been over 100 comments on this blog.

I have heard more radio and tv advertising about, as Leo calls him in a letter to the editor, John Mcsame (McCain) comming to the ball park Saturday then I have heard of the Wild Things all season. An article in the O-R said they hoped to get 15,000 people into the park. If the Wild Things management counts this attendence, they will be back to last season's average. The adds also say free tickets, nothing about parking or concessions. I will be biden my time to see how many will come to the event.
