Remember these guys?

Saw an interesting transaction today in the American Association. The Kansas City T-Bones, who are managed by former Wild Things manager John Massarelli, signed former Washington first baseman Ernie Banks.

Ernie Banks was a colossal flop when he was with the Wild Things. Could not hit
the ball with a telephone pole and had hands made of stone. Nothing at all like
the Ernie Banks of Chicago Cubs fame. Now if the Wild
Things could have Masserelli back....humm. Nice to think about.

Went to the double header last night. I really can't figure this team out. They
go on the Road to Evansville, get beat in 3 straight while only scoring 5 runs
in total, and having 21 batters strike out in 3 games. They are last in the East
standings and 3 games behind the Frontier Greys. All in all, a pathetic and
humbling situation to be in. Then in the first game last night, they barely eke out a win in a 7 inning game and they celebrate as if they had just knocked off the 1927
Yankees in a World Series game. Well.........Come on gang, when you are last in the standings try winning with a bit of dignity. You are not that good.

Anyway, the real Wild Things showed up for the second game and, as is getting
to be the case at lot these days, for all intents and purposes, they lost the game in the first inning. I saw no such wild celebration from the Rascals. Probably because they already know how to win.

I was talking to a group of fans between games last night and they are all really disgusted with the lack of any positive actions to make this team more competitive. Most blame the loss of Ross Vecchio and his experience and knowledge of the game, plus the emergence of Steve and Stu (the “crew with no clue”),for the drastic downfall of this franchise.

Another rumor I heard last night, from two people at different times, which I can’t even begin to imagine to believe, is that the Pittsburgh Pirates are in interested in involving themselves somehow with the Frontier League. How could that possibly be? MLB interested in anything to do with an independent league! How does this stuff
get started?

It was a walkoff win last night. It has become baseball tradition on a walkoff win for the winning team to charge the field and celebrate with the guy who was the batter. If you watched any baseball in the last 20 years you would know this. Do agree that when Ross Vecchio (sp?) left the Mild Things went in the tank. he was the one constant when the Mild Things were good. Forget the Pirates. That ship sailed many years ago. That's why Washington is stuck with a Frontier League team not a Pirates affiliate.

Steve and Stu (the “crew with no clue”)Truer words have never been posted on this blog. The only thing they know how to do is intimidate the front office staff. Yeah, it's the ticketing peoples fault that 95% of the community can't stand Stu and the product just plain stinks. Oh, and go Rebellion! I mean it, please go...away. It's an embarrassment.

I'll agree with that statement for the 2011 version of Banks, .207 and only 2 home runs in 42 games. It seemed like he hit a lot of balls to the warning track, but just not far enough. But the 2009 Banks was dominant. 24 homers, 75 RBIs and a .353 average, most of it with the Wild Things before he was dealt to River City in mid-August as the Wild Things fell out of contention. That version of Banks was worth the price of admission alone, as many of his homers cleared the fence with plenty of room to spare. That was the year many balls left the yard, as Jacob Dempsey was in his prime, and Grant Psomas belted them on a regular basis as well. But that was the year that Wild Things pitching couldn't locate the strike zone with a GPS. And the defense was shaky, with Psomas putting adventure back into the routine grounder.

Went to the WT game Thursday and the highlight of the night did nor occur on the field. At 7:59PM (by my watch and those of 3 other people), Bill DeFlabbio announced to the massive crowd that the time was 8:11PM. Why in goodness name would the WT keep this dude as their PA man? He's made nothing short of hundreds of errors over the years. He give the wrong name for players, usually always misses changes in the lineup, and constantly screams "RE-Play" when the WT make a good play while he, and the ignorant 'homers', and always less than knowledgeable, WT fans rarely even applaud outstanding plays make by the visiting team. (There were 2 of them made by the Rascals in Thursdays game). Courtesy is not a quality that western Pennsylvania sports fans are noted for. To sum up MR. Bill's qualities as anything other than embarrassing with be a miscarriage of the truth.
On the good side, the WT actually looked pretty good in the first inning but the defense for both teams was a bit sloppy. Now, if only the PA announcer was ..............

Now the WT have found a way to ruin their best box office draw. Seems they have decided to force the crowd to watch 15-20 minutes of art (ballerina) and other such boring stuff, before starting the fireworks show at the end of the game. Many people are so ticked off that they just get up and leave. The only people that want to watch that stuff are the parents and relatives of the performers. Why don't they do this stuff BEFORE the game starts? It's already late enough when the game is over that a lot of people just want to see the fireworks and go home NOT watch dancing and THEN the fireworks. The idiocy never seems to stop.
