Updated roster

Here is the Wild Things' updated roster, which includes the signings Wednesday of former Peters Township High School and Duquesne University first baseman Aaron Janusey (pictured) and outfielder Blake Butler, who played last year in the independent United League.

Keep in mind that each Frontier League team must follow these roster guidelines:

1. A team can have no more than 3 Veterans.
2. A team can have no more than 2 players classified as L2.
3. A team can have no more than 7 players classified as L1.
4. A team that goes with the maximum 24-man roster must have at least 12 players who are Rookies.

If a team does not have the maximum number of players in a particular classification, it can fill with players from a lower classification. For example, if you have only 2 Veterans, then you can carry 3 L2 players on your roster.

The * after a player's name means the club has announced he has signed a contract for 2009.

As you can see, Washington has plenty of room for L1 players, which will likely be used to sign starting pitchers released from minor-league camps.

Veterans (3):
2B - Ismael Castro
SS - Brett Grandstrand
OF - Chris Sidick

L2 (2):
RHP - Jon Lewis*
RHP - Mike Schellinger
1B - Nathan Messner
OF - Jacob Dempsey
OF - Chris Raber

L1 (7):
C - Kris Rochelle (IR)
3B/OF - Brad Arnett
INF - Chris Carrara

Rookies (Minimum of 12):
RHP - Rick Austin
RHP - Joe D'Allesandro
RHP - Justin Edwards*
RHP - Sean Heimpel
LHP - Dan Horvath
RHP - Matt Maradeo
RHP - Jace Smith*
P/C - Josh Eachues
1B - Aaron Janusey*
INF - Joe Spires*
OF - Jason Appel*
OF - Tim Alberts
OF - Blake Butler*

Just another local to get people into the ball park.
If this guy was really so good he would not be even THINKING of playing for the WT.

And why not? Should he be thinking of playing for Florence? or River City? Or maybe some team in the Can-Am League?

I see the WT are signing new players and trading some from last years team but has there been any re-signings?

The WT are just playing to the audience here. They know most of you will root for ANY local they
put on the field. Sadler was not good as the WT would have had you believe but, they NEVER let you forget where he attended high school.did they? This Aaron Janusey kid isn’t that outstanding, I have seen him and he is just average, on his best day.. I think any honest person knows what to expect from Mason – just look at his record! They should have kept Jelks but the racist in Washington were not about to let that happen.

So, I agree with the above comment. Janusey is nothing special. Just a local kid trying to sell tickents. Although, I'll be shocked if he makes the opening roster. I really don't like the moves the WT have made thus far. I hope Mason takes full control as to what happens during spring training. Please don't become another puppet of the Wild Things(Ross) because it sure as hell hasn't worked before..."Wild Things '09 this is the time"

I doubt the signing has anything to do with tickets. Nobody has ever paid - or ever will - pay money to see Aaron Janusey play baseball. And Chuck, what did Jelks do to warrant his return to Washington? You'll have to think long and hard to come up with something.

Lets face it.
Jelks and Ross would never mix.
Two people who wanted total contol,
Previous managers, including Mason,
were more go along with the boss attidude.
We may not see any better results, but at least there will be front office harmony.
As far as signing local players, I think it is a good idea. If they make the roster good, if not, they they did not have enought talent.
The track record on local players in the past few years is not good.
I think they have pressure on them playing in front of the home crowd similar to rookies playing in the super bowl. No I am not comparing the FL to NFL, but only the part of nerves and pressure.

Hey Fourseam, you say you don't like the moves the Wild Things made this offseason? What moves would you have preferred they make? How about some advice? I'd love to hear what you think.

" ... don't become another puppet of the Wild Things(Ross) because it sure as hell hasn't worked before..." I guess makin' the playoffs six times in seven years is bad. Every team in the league would trade their left nut for that.

As for Obuma, "The track record on local players in the past few years is not good." Yep, I agree, that Sidick kid really stinks. Hasn't done anything. Shouldn't be on the team. Heisel, he never saved any games. And now that Grandstrand is coaching high school baseball in Wash County, I guess bringing him back would be a huge mistake.

As far as local guys, how about Hensler, stocklien, Popp do I need to go on. The mentality of some of the bloggers leaves a little something to be desired.

Every team in the FL will sign a few local players because yes it does help draw crowds to a certain extent but lets not forget that if the local kids who maybe don't have the talent cut it will more than likely be cut from the team in Spring Traning like kids from years past. This is just how this works. The WT will bring in a few local kids as well as kids cut from affiliated Spring Training so nobody get their panties in a bunch just yet besides we still aren't even sure how many more trades will be made or what players the WT are bringing back from last year's team.

I guess I am wrong like our new president. Grandstrand on being a local player, from the state of Washington. I guess I know why the person posted as Anonymous because the person thinks Washington state is local. In that case, all of the players are local.

In case the dilhole above didn't know, Grandstrand is the baseball coach at Ringgold High School. That's in Pennsylvania. That's in Washington County. That's in Monongahela. It would be a quite a daily commute from the state of Washington to Ringgold. Grandstrand is living in gold ole southwestern Pa., which makes him local.

Grandstrand is from Washington state. Went to school at Coastal like many guys that have come through the WT. He only just decided to stay this season. Do people from around here claim Ledbetter as well???

Good call Obuma, minus thinking anything is wrong with our president.

Ledbetter is in Arkansas. Why would he be claimed as a "local?"

He stayed in area ONE semester following aging out of FL. Then, went home to Fort Smith.

Hare are the real facts about 'local' sports figures.
In SW PA if your are a good, or better than average player, then you are a local. If you are not so good - nobdy cares who you are.
This area has so many people that are grasping for anything to brag about that they will claim any one that is even a tiny bit good. What a sorry situation. What a sorry bunch of racist.

Jamal i disagree with all your racist comments but other than that you hit the nail on the head. Nobody seems to mind local players being a-holes as long as they are local.

Sure sounds like Jamal is the only racist around here. By the way, how many Wild Things games have you attended Jamal?
