Wild Things, Trinity battling over CEP use, fees

Consol Energy Park
Below is a link to an interesting story by the Observer-Reporter's Karen Mansfield regarding the battle between Wild Things ownership and the Trinity School District over the use of Consol Energy Park, a tax abatement, fees charged to high school teams for use of the ballpark, a potential switch by Trinity to W&J's Ross Memorial Park and some tactics by the Wild Things that blocked the move.

Wild Things owner Stu Williams, who sued the Frontier League last year, is looking bad in this one on different fronts while Trinity's baseball boosters are threatening to demonstrate/picket at Wild Things home games. The next home game is Aug. 9. That's an early start because it's a doubleheader that begins with the resumption of a suspended game from May 22.

Some of the comments on the story are priceless.

I can't wait until Williams moves the Wild Things out of Washington and tears down Consol Energy Park. Then they can build something on the land that Washington really needs like a strip club or meth clinic or bar.

Wow and to think Mr. Williams blocked Trinity from using WJ field by cutting off the parking lot for WJ games. How low can you go. As a Trinity tax payer, the Wild Things being a for profit organization needs to pay their fair share of taxes without fleecing Trinity.
I wonder how Leo feels about this?
I never thought I would say it, buy maybe its time for Stu to move the team to another city.
What a cl-ass act!

Stu Williams is all about the money. His softball team is losing, the Wildthings are not playing there best, the prices are to high, and now this. This might be the final nail in the coffin. Stu should be ashamed and offer the field to Trinity at the cost the other teams are paying. I've been to high school games at CEP, and there is almost no overhead, no concession stands, no ushers. So what expenses does he have? And to threaten W&J with parking if they allow Trinity to play at there field. (I will take my parking spaces and go home). I hope Trinity boosters do picket, and hopefully he realizes he has not only irritated the people who pay to watch these losing teams, he has also no doubt hurt the Trinity players. I'm sure they would rather play there home games in front of the home crowd, not at some other teams field. I for one am done with this organization. The damage is done.

Don't punish the Wild Things players for something an owner may have done. They have no choice in most cases where they get to play and are trying to live their dreams. Don't encourage a picket...that is directed at the players and fans that want to be there...smh

I don't have any skin in this game. I don't even live in Washington County. But what I am seeing here as a somewhat objective observer is that the owner of the Wild Things is a businessman, the "owner" of the school district is the taxpayers, and it is almost inevitable that they would have conflicting agendas. What I also notice is that there is a great deal of "according to a source" reporting on this as well as claims made with absolutely no documentation. If there are writings, as I am sure there are, that verify what either party is saying, why are they not being produced? Contracts entered into by the school board are likely to be available under the Pennsylvania Right to Know statute, I would imagine, and so are minutes from board meetings. If all of you want to know who's on first, these are avenues to explore.

I would certainly hate for poor Frannie to have to bear the blame for my comments. My name is Lorraine, and I practiced law for 25 years.
