That's a lot of people

In case you missed it, the attendance for the Wild Things' game against the Gateway Grizzlies Wednesday night at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Ill., was 6,314. That's the third-largest crowd to ever see a Wild Things game. The only larger ones were 8,211 at Traverse City in 2010 and 6,820 at Evansville in 2004.

By the way, the population for Sauget, Ill., is 249. I'm not kidding. Only 249.

I was there a few year back and at that time they did not charge for parking. Could that have an impact? A young family of 4, in most cases does not have that extra $5 for parking. As the parking fees go up, the attendance goes down!

Well that will do it for your Wildthings. Swept by my Grizzlies. The season is over for you guys again before the allstar break. Thanks for playing. See you next year when you finish in the basement again. We'll tell you how playoffs turned out this year because you won't be participating again.

Here we go again with the parking fees. A young family does not have that extra $5 for parking. What a joke! I guess that young families don't go to Pirates games, Penguins games, Steelers games, concerts ($40 to park for Kenny Chesney didn't stop anyone from attending), college football and basketball games or attend any of the cultural events in Pittsburgh. All charge more than $5 for parking, though the amphitheater in Burgettstown or the middle of nowhere to be more precise doesn't charge for parking, it just adds $15 or so to the price of every ticket plus the "processing fee". Parking prices have had zero impact on attendance. The fact that the team has stunk for what 5 of 6 years has much to do with attendance. Plus the mascot does nothing. There's nobody in the place and you still can't find him. And anyone who wanted to see the stadium has already been there and done that and left unimpressed (metal bleachers - very high schoolish). That's your problem with attendance.

Surprisingly, I did not write that post at 9:57 AM. Well said, though.
