Manager trivia

While going through some old statistics and schedules this afternoon, I noticed something that might make for a good trivia question. Let's see how long it takes for someone to come up the answer to this one (it's not very difficult):

Who are the only two managers in Wild Things history who were never swept in a series at home?

I will make a WAG that the two managers are Jeff Isom and Greg Jelks.
Isom had good teams and support from management and Jelks only managed one year, but had a lot of Frontier League management experience.
I would have to think Mr. Smily and Mark Mason were swept several times and of course it has already happened to Chris Bando.

Wow, Natural Grass. I thought it would take three or four guesses before somebody figured it out. Kudos!

Isom's two teams were never swept at home, and as bad as Jelks' one year seemed to be, his team won at least one game in every home series.

If you were wondering, John Massarelli's teams were swept only three times in four seasons. One was in 2004 by Evansville (Jelks was the manager of the Otters), and the others were were in 2007, a two-game set against Florence and a three-game series against Rockford.

Tonights attendence was 1334.
Wow- what a recovery, almost 200 more than the season average.
Stu knows what he is doing.
The parking lot attendent were busy.
Did that guy wear the paper bags tonight?

Now that Wild Things are on a winning streak, I would think they would be able to kick some butt this week-end. The Belters haven’t exactly been ripping the hide off the ball this season.
It was sadly noted the Wild Things let D day go by without any sort of commemoration of the historic battle in which thousands of brave American service men/women sacrificed their lives to preserve the freedom we all enjoy today. Not to worry though, The Wild Things have not forgotten to set aside a night to fondly remember that paragon of all that is/was good, Michael Jackson. It’s nice to know what the Wild Things priorities are and they are able to distinguish so well those that should be remembered and those that should be forgotten. Thanks for the lesson in both history and patriotism Wild Things. Also, for being so PC when it comes to those you choose to honor. Great work!

I heard that Stu just fired the trainer. Is that true?

Tonight's attendence was 1938.
Looks like they need fireworks every night.
Also, winning also helps.
However, I predict Saturday night will be lower than tonight.
If Stu fired the trainer, perhaps he could us one of the parking lot attendents for trainer.

Naw, he was too much of a chicken.

I was told that Stu did not fire the trainer. She was employed by somebody else and she is no longer on their payroll. I don’t have any idea if Mr. Williams had anything to do with it, or not.
It was good to see Mike Bando finally have a good game. A nice scrambling stop to save a hit, and a nice play on a short-hop throw. Also, in the eight inning he was able to catch up to a 91-mph fastball for a sharp single to center.
Perhaps this is the sort of a game he needs to regain his confidence, I hope so.

Don't get too excited about the WT just yet. Normal isn't exactly a good team. They did make the WT look good last night.

I went cheap to the game tonight.
Spent $5 parking, 2 geneneral admission tickets at $5 each.
My wife bought a hot dog and bottle of water for a total of $6 and I snuck in a bottle of water from Aldi's at a cost of $.12
Total spent $21.12
There were more cheers for the Normal catcher from the Pgh area than any of the Things.
Tonight the attendence was 2065. This might be the 2nd highest this year. Concessions lines were very short and one of them closed by the 7th inning.
With the loss, they need to win tommorrow for a 3-3 series.
I was not Disa Pointed tonight because I got to see Ima Fraid.

So much for the win streak! Another good day for Bando. I saw what I thought was some questionable strategy last night but that’s just my opinion. With my opinion and about 10 bucks you could get a hot dog at the old ballyard. I’m about ready to welcome Mr. Smiley back.
Natural Grass stopped by and we concluded that this year’s version of the Wild Things is only slightly worse than the 2011 version. Also, where are all the big changes we were told to expect? Except for the new scoreboard, which I do like, the only real difference is something we are not allowed to discuss on this blog.

BTW: I agree with the poster that lamented the Wild Things failure to honor the fallen heroes of Normandy. Disgraceful yes, but I’m not at surprised at their lack of sensitivity. At least they will remember that guy that liked to play with little boys.

Last night's attendence was 1338 which brought the year to date attendence up to 1321.
The fan spirit is gone along with about 1800 people a night.
What will it take and can it be revived?
The last 3 home games have been shutouts. Two by the Things and one be Normal.
Chris, is this a record for the Things to be involved in 3 straight shoutouts?

. . . and would someone tell Bando to keep his uniform jersey buttoned. Being the coach's kid doesn't give him the privilege of a 'tude' as the superstars in the biggies may have. When his BA gets above .275 i'll re-consider the shirt issue - -

Perhaps when the Wild Things return home, they can honor other notable moments in history. For example, during the next home game on June 20, the Wild Things can commemorate the day in 1863 that West Virginia became a state.

One thing I’ve seen enough of already this season is Lenny Randle. Pleeesae! This Bush League crap of entering the seating area and stealing a piece of pretzel or a French fry is absolutely absurd. Since the Wild Things are so adapt at talking a good game and always emphasizing the ‘professional’ aspect of their game, the question that needs to be asked is; Why the clown? Was this guy hired to coach, or was he hired to entertain. From the teams results so far the season he is better at entertaining. Time to get out of the stands and do your job, Lenny. I know some like this foolishness, but those are they that don’t know the difference between a ground ball and wild pitch!
Also, I feel sorry for the guys that have to wear a chicken suit and a cow costume. Now that’s just humiliating to even watch. I’m sure Mr. Williams would not do such a thing and he should not expect an otherwise intelligent young men to do so, either.
Other than the scoreboard, and something best left unsaid, I cannot see any of the big changes we heard about all during the winter months. WAIT, I’m wrong! It’s a lot more corny than before.
I’m glad to see Michael Bando picking up his game both on offence and defense. Now the Wild Things need to start winning some home series rather than splitting. Hope this road trip will see marked improvement over the last one. Now is the time to start making a move before ‘catching-up’ becomes too much to overcome.

Wow, I do have to applaud Ima Fraid's post above, I couldn't agree more.

The Pirates game on Saturday night was sold out, and I didn't want to waste such a beautiful night for a ballgame. So I made the trek to Washington (actually sitting very close to Ima Fraid) and witnessed first hand Randle's act. Seriously, how bad do you have to screw up in your career to wind up as a manager/coach in the Frontier League? Well, we all know what Randle did way back when....

Anyway, the team should make good use of those white towels to make one big surrender flag. Wow, I've been to 3 games so far, and they've scored a total of 4 runs. Horrendous. If I'm not mistaken, they've already released 4 guys who were in the opening night batting order. Today they released Lockwood as well. Can anybody hit? What's with this Leary guy, the current DH? 6'8" and 275? I thought Frank Howard was back when I saw this guy step up to the plate. And he's done nothing.

I must have had at least 5 people thank me for coming out on my way out of the park. Great, but why not save the payroll spent on these folks and spend it instead on some FILM of potential players, and find some hitters. Bando is actually up to .246 now. Sorry, but I'm still unimpressed. Come back Nathan Messner, all is forgiven. There's zero power on this team, and I do predict they will finish dead last in their division. Lake Erie is off to a miserable start, but they spanked the Things today and we all know a Maz team will be in the race before season's end.

I do feel sorry for season ticket holders who have to witness this all season long. At least I can choose how many times I want to be tortured. Thank you, owners, for running this franchise right into the ground these last few years.

Ive got news for you--this is Frontier League baseball, not MLB, or even affiliated ball. I love watching good baseball-and when I want to see high quality I'll go up to PNC and catch whoever the Buccos are entertaining, but if I want to take the kids out for a fun evening, I'm going to take them to the much more intimate CEP. If you guys want hardcore baseball, you're in the wrong league. Some of the games and promos and things like the chicken suit are corny, but that's part of the fun. You guys are way too serious about a product that isn't supposed to be. In your perfect world, they'd let you in for free, you'd see the Wt's decimate an opponent with ruthless aggression, they'd sell out 50 games a year, and they wouldn't waste time on between-inning games.

Lenny Randle fits the Frontier League bill. He is a great ambassador of the game for the kids and fans and you can see he comes out and genuinely has fun every night…something a lot of "fans" need to learn how to do.

I see the in-game changes and I like where theyre going with the product. I can see an obvious re-investment into the franchise, even if some decisions seem misguided. Nobody bats 1000.

Go Things.

I’ve noticed the shirt thing too. Also, how about the bling hanging around his neck, how about his running around giving pats on the butt to players of both teams (looks a bit odd to me) and, how about his cocky attitude, like his sweat doesn’t stink? I’m not impressed with Daddy’s little wise guy. I guess Stu is!
This entire Wild Things front office bunch is going to bring about the collapse of this franchise of it’s own weight. Has anybody bee able to figure what use Malcolm Smith is? If he is coordinating something, what is it? He is doing a poor job. I’d fire him as a first move. Then, Mr. Williams needs to draw back into his office and let baseball people run things. The team sucks so, what harm would be done?

Let the baseball people run things? Somebody hasn't been paying attention. Wild Things haven't had a baseball person who knows what he's doing since Ross left. Everson couldn't find hitters and Bando is even worse.

Manager Trivia
Who will be the Wild Things next manager?
Will they get a general manager before they get a new field manager.
How much will Bando last beyond the road trip.
Will Stu ride the team bus?
Believe it or not, Franny did better than Stu!

What have you been smoking? It's the WT and the Frontier League that pushes the professional baseball theme!
