Cochran a hit

Former Wild Things pitcher Tom Cochran had a big night Monday, leading the Carolina Mudcats (Reds) to a 3-2 victory over the Jacksonville Suns (Marlins) in the Class AA Southern League.

Cochran pitched five shutout innings, allowing only two hits, and improving his record to 8-5. The eight wins are the team high.

The most impressive part of Cochran's night was that he had as many hits as a batter as he allowed as a pitcher. Cochran's single up the middle in the second inning drove in a run. He later led off the fourth inning with a double and scored.

Because the Frontier League uses the designated hitter, Cochran batted only one time in his two seasons with Washington. Last year, he was 1-for-21 in the Reds' system. This year, he's hitting .138.

It's worth noting that both of Cochran's hits Monday came off former major leaguer Andrew Miller, who was the Detroit Tigers' first-round draft pick (sixth overall) in 2006. Miller has 16 wins in the major leagues and was part of the trade that sent Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis from Florida to Detroit. Miller's star has dimmed as his record is 1-8 with Jacksonville.

UPDATE: Miller, despite his struggles, was called up to the majors Thursday by the Marlins. Here's hoping he doesn't have to pitch to Tom Cochran.

The Rotary Club should be banned from ever appearing at CEP again. What a disgraceful performance
of our National Anthem earlier this week. It was embarrassing to listen to.
The Boy Scouts were supposed to be collecting canned food that night. They probably were, but they must have been hiding someplace so, I ate the stuff myself can opener and all.
As for Tom Cochran, eeeeh, who really cares any more

GO GREEN – USE REAL GRASS

Now that the Wild Things season is drawing to a close I’d like to make a final plea to the Wild Things
ownership to NOT use artificial turf starting next season. I understand that Mr. Williams has yet to sign the documents to make it final, PLEASE Mr. Williams –DON’T DO IT!
If the Wild Things feel that they must accept taxpayer charity how about using it in some way that would not further erode your rapidly disappearing fan base. If you don’t think they are leaving in droves just analyze your attendance figures over the last few years. Another indication is the lack of participation on this once active blog. Most all of the Wild Things problems are ‘self-inflected’ and largely stem from the Wild Things forgetting all about how to respect their customers. Just as in any business, if you don’t respect your customers you cannot expect them to be loyal to you. Just how many times do you expect Rep. Tim Solobay to ‘magically’ discover some “grant” money to give you?
In the first place there should NOT be any excess monies in the Commonwealth Treasury, if there is that money should be returned to the taxpayers. Being a realist I know that is NOT going to happen. Since the money is going to used, it should be diverted to help the unemployed, or their families. Since I switched to the Democratic Party (just five minutes ago) I am already becoming a ‘bleeding heart’. Many of my friends at CEP have told me that the relationship between Mr. Solobay, Mylan Labs, and the Wild Things doesn’t
pass the smell test. I believe it DOES pass the smell test, it smells like SKUNK!!!

GO GREEN – USE REAL GRASS – Part 2
Since I have concluded that I don’t like the results of the “smell test” I’ve decided to switch my affiliation to that of an Independent (just one minute ago). I find it extremely distressing that Tim Solobay, a Democrat, would take such a favorable view of a non-union business such as the Washington Wild Things
when the employees are paid the bare minimum that is legal. I have no idea, nor do I even care how much the management staff is paid. I do know that every conceivable corner is cut when it comes to the peons pay. I’m sure you know the ones I’m talking about – the people that are expected to bust their butts every minute they are on the clock!
One of the reasons that many season tickets holders are feed up with the Wild Things is the fact that some of the people that attend regularly receive a different level of treatment than others. Usually these folks are host families. I respect these people for what they do but they don’t deserve to be treated as more special than anybody else. Some of the special treatment includes things such as always receiving a t-shirt when they are supposed to be distributed at random, baseballs handed out especially to these people, etc. This sort of manure is more damaging than you might expect. It makes the rest of us season ticket holders, the ones that cannot for whatever reason supply housing, feel diminished. I have been attending games since the Wild Things start and have yet to have anything handed to me after all this time. It’s just plain outright favoritism. If anybody claims not to see it then it is because they don’t WANT to see it. It’s as obvious as a horse turd on a tennis court. Plain and simple, and it’s pure bull sh**! Just last night several of us finally got mad enough to demand a baseball for a small child. We were refused. Finally, one of the staff managed to get one for the little fellow. Good thing because we were about to make things get ugly. Some people can get all the baseballs they want just by putting their hand out, on the other hand, we had to get downright pissed off to just get one. One damn baseball for God’s sake – you wonder why people are staying away from CEP?

GO GREEN – USE REAL GRASS – Part 3
Not only are people staying away, but also a lot will not be returning as season ticket holders next year.
Instead of wasting our money, and it IS OUR money, (we were forced to give it to you) on a surface most people don’t even favor, why not have the outfield repaired and have the drainage situation corrected? It can be done. At a point that most MLB teams, and affiliated teams, are returning to natural grass you seem to want to do the regressive thing. Surely you don’t think you, or The Frontier League are leaders in the industry, do you? You may find some on this blog that favor an artificial surface but it will be a small minority. Can you afford to drive more customers away at this point?
Our taxpayer gift to you, through the auspices of Rep. Solobay should be used in a manner that would
improve CEP which much needs repair and/or maintenance. The place looks as if it were constructed by the Acme Construction Firm under the direction of Wylie Coyote. Was it stadium built to last 10 to 12 years? If so, that seems to be about the life span of the average Frontier League franchise before they fold up and leave town. I truly hope that is just a co-incidence. Do you plan to shut down and leave the citizens of this area this “white elephant”?
There is no need for that, just as there is no need for artificial surface. All that is needed to go back to your roots in this town. Improve the ballpark in way that will make it more comfortable and safe for the fans. Have more respect for the fans that are still coming to the games every day. Put an end to the damn favoritism. It is easy to get people to come to a baseball park when it is new. However, it is another matter to keep them coming. It sure as Hell will be almost impossible when you continually piss off your season ticket holders. I have talked to MANY season ticket holders that don’t plan on returning in 2011. Many because of the “turf” issue. I hope both you, and they, will change their minds. You certainly made a wise choice with the addition of Todd Marlin. He is approachable, friendly, and open to suggestions. I respect him very much. Because of him, my wife and I have enjoyed this season more than in any of the past three years. Please don’t take actions that will undermine his efforts.
Finally, you desperately need to field a competitive, well-coached baseball team. How do you expect to draw a crowd with teams that are not even competitive? This year’s version of the Washington Wild Things more closely resembles the Keystone Kops of moving picture fame!.

I see Ron Wilson or one of his cronies is calling himself Ex Terminator and can't figure out how to use the comment system without repeating himself.

If you've ever watched a game at Consol Energy Park, you know the grass needs replaced by turf. If you've ever played a game at Consol Energy Park, you know the grass has to go and turf is the best way to go. If you put this switch off much longer somebody is going to get seriously hurt playing on that pile of crap/poor excuse for a field.

That field is pure bulls*%t and because of where it's located the only solution is turf. Go green - as in turf.

Actually, I have never seen a game played at CEP. I guess I should attend a game once in a while to find out how full of yourself you really are. I will presume you are correct in your assessment of the field.
I will also presume you are willing to pay for the turf. You are generous with other people’s money too
I suppose. Just like any Democrat, you know if you happen to run out of other people’s money, you can simply tax then again. I don’t care if it’s only one cent, I don’t wish to contribute to bail the Wild Things out of their problems. I already pay for two season tickets a year, plus parking. Am I also expected to bring a wheelbarrow full of money every time I come to a game?
The Wild Things are about as presumptuous as any organization I’ve ever seen. The folks here in Washington have been VERY generous to them – now they want more and no doubt even more after that.
Of course they have Tim Solobay as their “safety net”, at least for now. Until the area is completely feed up with this crap, the Wild Things will continue to milk the cash cow. Then, probably while we are sleeping, they will move their operation to ‘greener’ pastures i.e.; where there will be another group waiting to be taken advantage of. This is the history of The Frontier League – few years here, a few years there, then move on to someplace else.
My feelings about the Wild Things are not just mine. MANY people feel the same as I, but they are unwilling to speak out. I will not be intimidated from speaking out – period! I am not pretending here to speak for anybody other than myself. Having said that, I am NOT just saying things because I dislike anyone in the organization. Todd, Christine, and almost all the staff I consider to my friends. The ownership group has obviously not impressed me a lot. They sure as hell haven’t given us much to cheer about for our money – they are sort of like a mini-Pittsburgh Pirates.
You think some player may get hurt someday! Just wait until somebody bust his/her ass due to poor maintenance of the facility.

Ron Wilson AKA: Ex Terminator. I knew perfectly well that everybody would know who it was. Does that make you feel better gutless “Anonymous”? Do you feel like Sherlock Holmes now? A bit of humor never hurt anybody except perhaps you.

BTW: How many thousands of dollars have you spent at CEP? I have a right to bitch and complain as much as I care to – I’ve paid dearly for the privilege. I hope to God that they didn’t pay YOU to try
to play there. What a waste that would be. Since you have decided it personal - You sound like a whining sissy to me. I’ll give you the last word! Folks as you just thrive on that sort of thing. For your amusement, I might even post it twice.
