Raber retired
Though no official annoucement has been made by the Wild Things, the Frontier League's transactions page lists the retirement of Chris Raber. This leaves the Wild Things with four L2 players - RHP Jon Lewis, RHP Mike Schellinger, 1B Nathan Messner
and OF Jacob Dempsey - which is two over the league limit. Only Lewis has signed for 2009. With the recent trade of 2B Ismael Castro, Washington is one under the limit of 3 Veterans.

Reading the O-R yesterday that John Swiatek pointed out that the Wild Things team owners have not yet made a profit 8 years into the organization's existence makes me feel so sorry that I hope they are in line for some of the stimulus from the Obama admisistration.
On the plus side they won't have to pay higher taxes based on income.
If they haven't made a profit by now then they are never going to make money.
I think their best days in regard to attendance are behind them. The 'novelity' factor is no longer there and Frontier League baseball is, well....... you know

Ha, it makes me happy to know that "Obuma" has stooped so low as to spend his days complaining about Obama (who 65% of the country approves of because we are not all as stupid) on a frontier league web blog.
If you are so passionate about your disdain for Obama, then get out and do something about it. I mean, that's why your candidate lost anyway. McCain lost because Obama was able to rally his people, who in turn decided to get out and have their voice heard, while you lazy GOP conservatives expected everything to just be handed to you again. So, the O-R has a censorship czar – none other than that paragon of knowledge and wisdom – Chris Dugan. He didn’t like what he saw so he just wiped it all out. Barack’s henchmen ARE at work already.

Jelks wasn't mistreated.He got let go for not doing the job he was hired to do,which was win.Same thing will happen to Obama if he doesn't do what the people elected him to do.
Agreed. First time the WT didnt make the postseason in what, six seasons? Seven? Heads had to roll and judging by the moves made this offseason Jelks wasn't the only person who suffered. Lets not complain of Jelks' exit or how it was handled as the entire pitching staff has pretty much been dismantled as well. Its the nature of the sport.
Why don’t we talk about a REAL issue I have with the Washington Wild Things?
Why in hell did they send someone to that slime-ball Roy Jacobs’s trial? This representative was, I understand, to be a sort of ‘character witness’ for this idiot.
How in the world could they even remotely feel that this man deserved their support?
Mr. Jacobs chose to drive while intoxicated. He chose to do this stupid act on a night when the road conditions were difficult for a completely sober individual to handle.
To further compound his offence, Mr. Jacobs tried to place the blame for the crime on a dead person. This person was supposedly a very close friend of his. I guess that is what Mr. Jacobs feels was an appropriate way to say ‘good bye’ to his ‘friend’!
Just goes to show the poor judgement exercised by the Wild Things management.
Mr. Jacobs, despite all his protestations, was convicted on the evidence introduced. NO amount of good words said by people that probably have some sort of vested interest, can negate that fact he drove drunk.
So, why defend a person that cares little about the safety of his fellow human beings and even less about the reputation of a good friend that is not able to defend himself. Two people are now dead because of this jackass.
The Wild Things should have just stayed out of it. They are probably VERY lucky that they were not sued also. The Wild Things Christmas party earlier started Mr. Jacobs’s night of drinking. Of course, they do sell beer to people that are obviously intoxicated at the ballpark don’t they? We all know that is true – if you don’t, than just be more observant at the next game you attend.
What Jamal wrote, and was subsequently remove from this blog, was really stupid. However, what he wrote was partially true. The Wild Things did shaft Greg Jelks and, IMHO, it was a racist motivated action to satisfy some of the old people (seniors) that did not want a black man managing the team.

As for the change in managers, there is one thing to keep in mind: The Wild Things did not make the playoffs last year and posted the worst record in franchise history. When that happens, the manager becomes the fall guy about 99 percent of the time, so it's no surprise that Jelks was let go. Whether it was his fault or not (you sure can't blame all the injuries on him), that's just baseball. You keep your job and move up in the ranks by winning. Lose too often and you get fired. That's just the reality of baseball.

Mr. C – Sucking up to Chris will not even get you a cup of coffee. He is a small time reporter with a small time, dying newspaper. That little rant he posted just shows his level of maturity – about that of a 2 year old child that had his rattle taken away. I only rarely look at this blog any more and, after reading Chris remarks that this is “my blog” I’ll just not bother with it again. It’s his blog and he can keep it! He obviously can’t take a little heat without going to pieces. What a bunch of blabber! Man up Chris.
