Risser signed by Devil Rays

According to MyrtleBeachOnline.com, Wild Things relief pitcher Travis Risser has had his contract purchased by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Risser was recently named the 8th-best prospect in independent baseball by Baseball America magazine. he will go to minor-league spring training with the Devil Rays in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Risser, from Palmyra, Pa., played last spring at Coastal Carolina University. After joining the Wild Things, Risser went 4-2 with a 1.09 ERA and six saves in 25 games. He had 42 strikeouts in 49 2/3 innings.

In the Frontier League championship series against Windy City, Risser threw 7 2/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts.
