More fake grass on the Frontier

Here's a story about the ballpark plans in Oakland, Mich., which will house a Frontier League team, probably in 2009. And yes, the ballpark will have artificial turf.

Check out the story here.

What is more important than artifical grass is that parking will be free.
I hope the free parking spreads in the Frontier League faster that artifical grass. Currently the number of teams that charge for parking is about equal to the number that have artificial grass.
Hopefully Washington will have free parking before it gets "fuey" grass.
Chris, please do a little research in how many have fake grass and how many offer free parking.
Thanks,
A thrifty fan!

"Hilliard said he expects to see twilight doubleheaders on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with triple-headers on the weekends. Monday and Thursday will be held open for makeup games."

I can't see the FL approving this kind of schedule. As far as I know, there haven't been any scheduled twinbills in the six years the Wild Things have been in the League.

______

I don't see what difference it really makes.Since the games are shortened to seven innings. This means that it would only be three more innings than if they were playing REAL baseball - you know NINE innings!

BTW: If they were playing REAL baseball there would be NO DH either!!

The Wild Things are already aware that the fans don't want fake grass. Bet you a million bucks they don't give a crap what the fans want and put it in anyway. Bet you another million that they figure out a way to get the taxpayers to pay for it!!
The ONLY Frontier League team to charge for parking is these same Washington Wild Things!!!
Windy City has a parking lot that is privately operated and their parking fee is $2!

I thought I posted something about parking and ticket prices early in the season. Found it back in a May post. I did more checking on the parking issue and this is what I've found through Internet searches:

These teams offer free parking:
Chillicothe
Florence
Kalamazoo
Evansville
River City
Gateway

These teams offer parking for $2:
Rockford
Windy City
Slippery Rock
Southern Illinois
Traverse City (it's free if you have 4 or more people in the car)

Artificial Turf is a great idea at Consol Energy Park. Yes, baseball is played on grass, but the Wild Things management bring a lot of other events to the area. And let us not forget Cal U and the other games that they host at the park before the Wild Things season opens. This isn’t Florida and it is difficult to keep a field in good shape when you start playing a full college schedule on it in March.

Some fans that attended the games are there for the baseball game; however, most are there for a family friendly event. They honestly don’t care if the team plays on grass or artificial turf. And truthfully, I think that if you have a problem with it, don’t go. I guarantee the team will not play in front of 12 people if the team decides to go with artificial turf. There will be no mass-walk out, and there will be no boycott.

Also, from a player’s standpoint, there are no changing field conditions. I have met the grounds keep at Consol Energy Park, and they do an amazing job with the facility and playing surface they have. But even with the great job they do; depending on the conditions and usage of the field, it plays different every day. With artificial turf, it plays the same. Artificial turf can take large amounts of rain, and be ready to play in a very short amount of time, compared to the day or two it takes to dry out now. (we’ve all seen the splashes of water in the outfield when a ball is hit or an outfielder runs) The only downfall is that it is much hotter than natural turf.

And why shouldn’t tax money go to the field? I guess the two hotels, two medical buildings, future restaurant, and other businesses on top of the hill were there before the Wild Things moved in. I guess the money that the team brings in for local businesses in the form of hotel stays, restaurants, and general added community appeal all doesn’t count either. Also, some of the slots tax revenue is slated to be put back into the county’s tourism industry.

As for the parking issue; are you serious? Once again, if you don’t like to pay to park, don’t go. The cost of the overall event is so much cheaper than any other sporting event in the area, three dollars is a small addition to the total cost.

After the last game snub (meltdown) and the treatment of Chris Dugan, I am surprised that anyone would be willing to list their name in this blog.
Chris keep up the good work.
Hopefully you don't have to pay the $3.00 for parking.

Joe Torre is now available.
I wonder if the Wild Things could use him as their new manager?
Then again, he has not won the championship for three years in a row.
