Joe, we hardly knew 'ya

The Wild Things acquisition of third baseman Joe Poletsky from the Can-Am League was simply a paper move. Washington traded Poletsky one day after acquiring him. Poletsky was sent to the Frontier League Greys for a player to be named.

By my count, this takes Washington back to 35 players on the roster with 30 signed for 2014.

Typical Frontier League stuff. No wonder there is so little interest in this League. Always a lot to do about nothing. On the other hand, Steve Z is really good at doing nothing isn't he?

The trades were likely made because of this:

Poletsky is willing to play for the Greys, but that team doesn't have enough players on the roster to make a trade for him. The Wild Things were apparently owed a player from the Can-Am team that held Poletsky's rights, so they acquired him and traded him to the Greys for a player to be named. Wild Things still get a player TBN, the Greys get their 3B and the Can-AM team doesn't have to send anyone to Washington. Very common stuff in indy ball.

Talked to Steve today at the open house. He said he had a TIA (transient ischemic attack) which is more commonly described as a mini stroke. He said he was feeling much better than he was Wednesday and there are no long-term side effects. The doctors at Washington Hospital told him to take it easy for a few weeks. Seems that he was very lucky. From what he described, it was a scary situation.
