Blast from the past

Noticed on Baseball America's minor-league transactions that former Wild Things outfielder Robbie Garvey was signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Garvey played in 56 games for the Wild Things last year, batting .220 and going 17-for-27 in stolen-base attempts. He left the team in early August and was placed on the suspended list.

Chris - - Do we have any idea why he had gone MIA last August?

Because he was tired of the WT jerking him around. I thought everybody know that by now.

One thing I heard (but nobody would say on the record) was that the Wild Things told Garvey he was going to be traded to the Road Warriors. His response was that he wasn't going to play for a travel team, so he left Washington and went home.

this blog has ruined wildthings baseball in washington. the front office actually pays attention to this piece of crap. this blog is kept alive by a hand full of malcontents, released players and their wives or girlfriends and idiots who want to grind axes over politics. the best thing would be for Chris to take this blog down. read about the team in the paper, online or go to the games.

Anon that posted "this blog has ruined wildthings baseball in washington".
How about people as you that are too cowardly to use their real name? Do you think you are doing anything beneficial with your comments? Anyway, Randy told me when he left what the reason was. Chris is right...he was about be be traded to a traveling team. I don't blame him for being pissed. The Asst General Manager was honkin...never mind. Randy's departure was justified. The Wild Cubs tried to make a lot of hay from the demise of the Rippers and Randy was a victim of the manure they tried to pull off. All the Wild Cubs did was get a bunch of players that didn't know any more about baseball than I do.

Didn't the Wild Things get a player who was signed by the Orioles from London? Your naive if you believe the Cubs didn't get better from that trade. #YourAFraid

Victim? Are we talking about the same nonproductive guy who batted .220 and had an onbase percentage under .300? Garvey should have been grateful and thankful that the Wild Things kept him on the roster for three months. No other team in the league would. The guy can't play a lick. Hell, you could send a trash can up to the plate and in this league it would get walked often enough to have a higher onbase percentage than Garvey produced. The Dodgers are going to find out quickly that Garvey is the same as those NFL "workout warriors." Those are the guys who look good in drills and at the combine, but when they get on the field they're lost. Garvey is fast so that impresses a scout, but get him on the field and he can't produce. Not much need in baseball for a guy who bunts three times a game and can't steal first base.

Robbie Garvey was really that bad and yet the Wild Cubs fell for his act and signed him. What does that say for their ability to evaluate talent? Seems they have done that numerous times in the last few years. However, they never fail to tell us all how good these guy's are and how fortunate the Wild Cubs were to get them. Usually, all this 'talent' falls on it's rear end and the Wild Cubs blame the player. They need to take a look at their ability to tell whether THEY have any of the “necessary's” to know talent even when it bites them in the butt! They sure haven't shown a lot of success since Mr. Williams started passing out long-winded titles, have they? These titles a just a lot of hokum crap to plant a fire under somebody’s fanny and make them feel important. The bad part is that some of these 'titled' people actuall believe it! What the Wild Cubs need is another person with a fancy, meaningless title. How about this; Asst. General Manager Bench Coach – Talent Evaluation Division.
There is never any need to worry about if the Wild Cubs will not like you if you say anything bad about them. You see, they NEVER read this blog, at least that is what they have told me. That was right after Mr. Williams told me his wife was “hurt” by what she read on the blog. Humm – makes one wonder about their credibility, doesn't it?

I wonder how long it will take for posters to focus more on the 2013 season and the new roster? More comments are made when articles open the wounds of 2012 than articles talking about the new year.... Constant embracement and promotion of negativity.

More comments when the topic is 2012 season than the 2013 season. The Cubs trade for a player who hit 20-some homeruns last year and noone cares to acknowledge it.

Stop living in the past.

I'd hold off on getting excited about Rogelio Noris just yet. Here's 2 words for you: Josh Banda. Remember him? Didn't think so. He was the big slugger the Wild Things acquired a few years ago who hit even less than Michael Bando before eventually being released. (note to Wild Things: stop signing anybody with B-A-N-D anywhere in their last name.) Hopefully Noris will pan out, it would be nice to have somebody worth watching. But hey, who knows? They may trade him to the Pecos League before opening day.

They just signed a guy named Jose Rivero. Upon doing a quick checkup on his career, I quickly learned he didn't even bat .200 during the past couple of seasons. Come back, Blake Ochoa, all is forgiven!

Kind of curious as to why the Wild Things didn't sign ex-Lake Erie lefty Randy Sturgill. Randy is the Cal U Vulcans career wins leader, and was a finalist for Frontier League top rookie in 2011. He has, according to my sources, joined the Schaumburg Boomers.

Rivero also hit over .300 in the Freedom league and some Venezuelan league in 2012 with decent power, noted in the article the Things wrote on him.

Why ignore his recent success?

Go look up 2012 league MVP, Jose Vargas, and his numbers in the pro game. Not too pretty but he transitioned well.

The Wild Things office has learned how to talk the talk. Now, if only they could learn how to walk the walk. The proof of that is all the talk we've heard for several years vs. what we have seen on the playing field. Be optimistic? Why?

Who would you like them to sign? Its independent baseball. You hate their roster that much? I been in Washington since the Things were introduced. They only haven't been overly competitive the past 3-4 years.

Glad you brought that up. Somebody has used mine a couple of times recently but I just never even bothered saying anything. This guy claimed to be me while making several remarks about Robbie Garvey. He said Robbie told "me". I would not know Robbie Garvey if he stepped on my foot - never met the guy!
Why do people do this stuff?
