Cincy calls Cochran

Former Wild Things pitcher Tom Cochran had his contract purchased by the Cincinnati Reds organization Friday. The left-hander was playing for the Lancaster Barnstormers in the independent Atlantic League and had a 3-2 record and 4.67 ERA. Cochran, who played in Washington in the 2006 and 2007 seasons, has been assigned to the Carolina Mudcats, the Reds' Class AA affiliate in the Southern League.

Thriftyone, Ron Wilson, and Obuma.

You 3 guy’s are the biggest trouble makers in this town. I work for the Wild Things. I happen to know that Ross and Mrs.Williams hate your guts and a looking for some way to kick Ron Wilson’s backside out of CEP for good. If you don’t love the Wild Things then why waste you time with us? Go away don’t come back and the Wild Things will be free of your constant bitching.

Of course we are here to make money and things are a little tough right now and we need some help – what’s so wrong about asking for a little government assistance?

Thriftyone has been complaining forever about the parking fee. We only ask $3, is that so wrong? If you don’t want to pay just park at the mall! Just like Ron Wilson, we are sick and tired of hearing it. Obuma, all you ever do is agree with that old senile guy.

Bob Gregg is a really nice man and doesn’t deserve all the crap you are putting on him. He is just doing his job.

We are tired of all of you. You have to be sick in the head. Get a life and leave the Wild Things alone. We really don’t need any of you. Get off of our butts. Just go away. There must be a place where you can get the help you need.

Anonymous said on the “Up in Smoke” Thread,
“There's plenty you can do. Start by circulating petitions, not the lame one's like have been talked about in these blog “

Did you see the petition that was circulated? There was nothing “lame” about it but the crass way it was received, and so promptly disregarded by the Washington Wild Things. I have no way of proving this, but I was told by somebody close to Wild Things operations, that several pages of signatures on that petition have disappeared.
I’m not saying it’s true, you be the judge as to whether or not you think the Wild Things would do that.
As for what I believe, I’ll made my judgement based on the way they have behaved in the past. They always seem civil, at least as long as they are within your sight.

Their employee (I have zero doubt that it is one of their employees) that has chosen to attack several of the posters on this blog with very personal insults is a example of their cowardliness in dealing directly, and honestly with their customers. (More on that in a second). The Wild Things used their political connections to get OUR money and use it for something their fans have demonstrated they DON’T want. Since it is OUR tax money, this is like whipping us with our own belt. It is the absolute height of arrogance

Now, Mr. Wild Things employee; you have said the “Wild Things owe you nothing except a seat”. Wrong, they owe us a great deal. WE PAY THE FREIGHT! You also say some season ticket holders feel the “Wild Things "owe" you something” Well John boy, I have NEVER ask for even one favor from the Wild Things. I’ve never even received a free baseball. Some season ticket holders are CONSTANTLY having the players throw something to them from the dugout several times during the same game. ! Now “John” you have told everybody on this blog that I am a senile old man, and that, in effect, you think we (Thriftyone, Obuma, and me) need psychiatric help. Come on by my seat in Sec 104 Row G Seat 1 and explain your qualifications to make that sot of judgement. You might want to call Washington A&C first in the event you just happen to fall down. You are just a Wild Things dupe and a coward. I sure they would not approve of your actions

Congrats to Tom Cochran, he was a solid stater during his years in Washington, although he will always be remembered for getting pounded by Windy City in Game 5 of the 2007 Championship Series.

Chris, why is Sidick not in the lineup Friday or Saturday? Is he injured?

This whole thing (poor performence) is the taxpayers fault. They didn't anty up enough money.
Let's give them another half a million bucks to make it all better.
The parking fees should be raised another dollar too!

After reading this blog I've come to one conclusion ... the Wild Things are the worst thing to happen to Washington and Washington County. They should be disbanded and sold immediately, and CEP should be blown up. Then there would be no more bitching, no more complaining, no more blog, no more team, no more foul-mouthed players, no more greedy owners, no more price-gouging, no more sponsorships and naming rights, no more lazy interns, no more obnoxious PA announcer, no more Nazi ushers, no more garbage baseball, no more walks, no more dropped pop-ups, no more dumb managers, no more loud concerts, no more turf, no more lousy drainage, no more parking fees, no more waiting in line at the concession stand, no more wasted taxpaper money. Man, life would be grand without that baseball team and CEP. Oops! Sorry, forget about that last "no more....." I got carried away.

So I think we need to demand that BSI take legal action to terminate the Wild Things' lease. I know we can find some term that the WTs have broken. The sooner they're out of town and county, the better off we all are. I'm serious about this. We'll all be better off without this team. No more Wild Things! No more Wild Things! No more Wild Things! No more outgrageous parking fees! No more ballpark! No more drunken players moving into our town and county! No more ballpark! No more turf! No more arrogant owners! No more poor service! No more wasted hotel tax money! No more police roaming the parking lots checking out our vehicles! No more $1 beers! No more pot-smoking concert goers! No more character assasination on this blog! No more Wild Things! Let's run them out of town! Please!

Chris Dugan...I think it's time to get rid of the blog. I know YOU try to keep it baseball related, but it's anything but that anymore with these bloggers. As a fan of the team I read the blog because I'm a baseball fan, you try to see what people have to say about Cochran on this thread for instance and all it is, is the same old 6 or 7 people complaining about the same old stuff.

This is too bad, I've always thought it was a cool thing to get a different look on the baseball side of things. Now I can't take it anymore. No one stays on the topic.

Everyone that hates the Wild Things so much on this blog should really do one thing, don't go to the games any more and stop supporting them. Just boycott them.

I'm sorry Chris Dugan that your blog has come to this. Your idea was great, but these bloggers have made this blog garbage and a joke.

Stan K. Finally someone has the guts to do what needs to be done. Remove this blog, and let the chips fall where they may. We can't change what has happened, (and I am not going to go through that nonsense, we all know what has happened and we can't change that). Yes, artificial turf is coming, the Wild Things are staying, and no one is going to blow up anything. If this blog was focused on baseball, I believe we would be a lot better off. Mr. Dugan started what he thought was a good thing, and in the beginning it was, however, I believe the intentions were not to call people names, or accuse people of any wrongdoings.

This organization has had many changes since the inception, and I am sure that there will be many more to come. At least let the people who enjoy going to CEP for a nice evening out enjoy themselves.

I got a very different vibe from this place a couple years ago, I used to joke with friends at Windy City games last year that Windy City broke your team.

With all of the negative vibes around here, I'm getting the impression that it wasn't far from the truth.

What's the root issue here anyway, is it just paying for the turf, or is it the general performance of the team?

Yep, I agree with Stan, Mike and Anonymous. Just shut up all but the ones that don’t like having the Wild Things use taxpayer money for there own purposes. What differences does it make? The issues being discussed are baseball. It is the issue of being ethical; It is the issue of listening to what their supporters want. It is the issue of how funds are procured. It is the issue of whether the Wild Things should take money just because it’s there. You are allowed to post whatever you want, in this case it’s about how bad the opponents to granting free money are. As far as I am concerned that’s fair game.

This is a blog about baseball – it’s a blog about Wild Things baseball. The last I heard this was still a baseball team. We should be able to express our thoughts about any issue as long as we keep it on the topic of Wild Things baseball. Not Altoona, Reading, or any other baseball team. Just Wild Things baseball and any issue concerning the team, players, on field play, and the management. They are the ones that charge admission and should not be “off limits”.

Where was your indignation when it comes to the way the Wild Things supporters call certain people on this list nut jobs? I saw no post from you three people condemning that! BTW: Don’t do it now, that would look a little insincere. Where were you when the Wild Things chose to disrespect Chris Dugan, and the O-R, in 2006?

Yes, just shut us all up. I seem to remember that not too long ago, if my history books are correct, the same thoughts as expressed by you gentlemen also crossed the minds of some leaders in places like Italy and Germany. First, it’s character assassination, then it’s suppression of speech, and then it’s oppression of any opponent at any cost. Now I am not trying to imply that is what you have in mind, I know you are probably stalwart Americans. However, the process of smothering opposition always starts with some people that, hearing something they don’t like, just try to cut off any discussion. As in this case, it is usually is a relatively small issue – such as ‘turf’ that is involved and continues to grow. Go Ahead – Shut us up! But when you do, you diminish YOUR rights as a citizen to express your thoughts also.
It always starts with something small. “From Tiny Acorns Mighty Oak Trees Grow” Adolph Hitler started with a lowly clerks job in the Nazi Party and the rest is history! Go Ahead, shut us up! It’s been done before.
Ron Wilson

BTW: Just to stay on topic. if you don’t think I was. My early season favorite player is Ernie Banks. He just looks so confident and appears to have good leadership qualities.

Well Chard, it's like this. After the WT lost that game they acted like a bunch of little spoiled brats, including some of the coaching staff. They took their frustrations out on the sports editor of the local paper.
The fact that they got their butts handed to them in the game didn't seem to even occur to them. It was somwhow the fault of the local reporter. There was a big stink about at the time.
It only took the Wild Things officials about three weeks to issue a luke warm apology.
Things have never been the same here.

Chard,
The poster that replied to you didn’t give the entire story. There is MUCH more involved. In fact, more than be fully discussed here. Beside that Chicago incident, there has been an ongoing dispute about the installation of “turf”. Some want it, most do not. The ‘do not’ people are in the majority by a large margin the last I checked. A petition was submitted urging the management not to install the “turf” That was rejected.
So the management apparently did not have the money to pay for or finance this project. The Wild Things applied for, and received a State grant and some matching local funds from a local ‘bed tax”.
This really ticked off the ‘no turf’ people that their own tax money was being used against them. There is certainly some questionable ethical issues involving one of the local radio stations broadcasters. It is all legal but of suspect ethics. Appearances mean a lot!
The playing surface at CEP does badly need some work. It could easily be reconditioned to an acceptable condition if the team so desired. They apparently do not. The cost would almost certainly be less than that of ‘turf”. However, the stadium is being used for purposes other than baseball and the ‘turf’ better suits the Wild Things purposes. Since the Wild Things have ignored the wishes of the teams fans, (figuratively giving them the middle finger) most of we ‘no turf’ people think it is inappropriate to use tax dollars to go against our desires. The Wild Things have sort of been ‘on the take’ since their inception. Many local merchants have been gracious in their support of the Wild Things. The Wild Things should at least, IMHO, honor what their fans want.
When all is said and done, I still love the Wild Things. It’s sort of like your spouse; you can love her but just hate some of the things she does. I will probably continue to attend games but it’s almost impossible to feel the same about the management of this organization.

RW never gives up! Does he really believe all the crap he writes or does he just like to humor himself!
This guy is so far removed from reality that one should worry about him. No matter what others might write he will twist and turn it to the point that once again his opinion is the only right one. No one else can continue to write such extremely lengthy entries about the same thing in so many ways. Redundancy is his weapon of choice. Don't let him fool you, he constantly writes about how he is treated on this blog, but he has belittled, mocked, and ridiculed just about everyone that dares disagree with him ~ of course he uses his paltry sense of humor to try and smooth over his invective put downs. He's a sly one Mr. Grinch!

Ron, remember this...if every petition was given credence there would be a skatepark in every town in Pennsylvania.

What Ron doesn't understand is that his petition isn't worth the paper it's written on, just like all those 15 year olds that bring petitions to borough council on what seems to be a yearly basis.

Whether you want turf or not, and I don't, it doesn't matter what you and I think or want, it's what the management of the Wild Things want and they do not have to keep you happy. Now don't go on and on about how they owe it to the fans to do what you want. They DON'T owe you or me anything. Their loyalty has to be about what's best for their business and apparently they believe that turf is in their best interest. Let it go already!

There are other turf fields in the Frontier League, hell, Traverse City tore their grass up a year ago and Florence tore theirs up this year, so Washington won't be the first to make the switch from grass to turf. I also think I read somewhere that the Frontier League now mandates that turf be installed on all new stadiums being constructed for league teams.

With the condition of the outfield drainage, I don't think anything other than a complete and total refurb of the field would make it right. It appears that the infield, grass and clay are just fine, but we all know what happens when it rains on a game day in Washington.

Ron W,

Again, this has nothing to do with what this thread is about. I agree with you on what you say most of the time. But right now, let's agree to disagree. Maybe you should start a new blog about the front office problems. My main complaint is that no one, including you at times, doesn't talk about what each thread is about. That's all I'm saying. I agree with you about the turf, the attitude problems we've had in the past with players, 2007 team. But 99% of everything written in this thread has nothing to do with Tom Cochran who the thread was suppose to be about. This is my arguement, not to shut you up. Stay on the topic that Chris Dugan put up there.

Also, I'm not singling you out. This is for everyone. Talk about the damn topic that's all.

Chris Duggan....Do you agree???

Well, I must agree with that. However, it was NOT "my" petition. It belonged to every person that signed it.
I agree with most of what you say. Yes, something must be done. It is perfectly clear the 'turf's on the way.
I don't think we should have to finance the management’s wishes. I feel it is their responsibility to foot the bill just the same as any other private industry. Also, I strongly disagree that the Wild Things don’t owe the customer anything. If they were running a hardware store or a grocery store then I would agree.
Because they have the “only game in town” that makes it a different matter, at least in my view. I can’t go to Strabane Square and see a baseball game there.

Thanks for a respectful reply. Not much of that on this blog! Sure are a lot of folks that are called “anonymous” though!

I feel bad for you then, I caught a Bolts/Miners game down at Southern last year, and they had turf. The stuff looks "too perfect" from a distance, very unnatural with lines that are way too crisp. And up close the stuff just looks bizzare. the infield wasn't dirt, it was made of brown colored "grass" and the pitcher's mound looked like a giant cookie somebody dropped on the field.

I believe the Thunderbolts did some work on getting better drainage for the field some years ago. Maybe it's not perfect, but it seems to have worked out pretty well unless there's been some major rainfall. (I understand the field was pretty bad the year or so before I discovered the team)

If the team won't heed your petition, seeing as tax dollars are involved, maybe you should take it directly to the politicians.

Since voting with your wallet won't work, maybe you should try voting with your... uh... votes. Petition city hall instead, it'll probably carry more weight.
