Patrick Stanley, who spent parts of two seasons with the Wild Things, set a Newark Bears franchise record Saturday night by striking out 15 batters and tossing a three-hitter as Newark defeated Lancaster 7-1 in the independent Atlantic League. The Atlantic is considered the top level of independent baseball. Among Stanley's temmates in Newark are former Pirates infielders Randall Simon and Bobby Hill.

I agree with the person that posted under "Another Roster Move". The Wild Things didn't win so much as the Freedom lost by just poor play. 3 errors and several passed balls and wild pitches is what was was the deciding factor. It had NOTHING to do at all with cheering crowds. If anybody really thinks that was a factor - well, I have a bridge for sale cheap!!! Florence came to lose, not win, and that is exactly what they did!
We all remember when Evensville "backed" into a championship and we also remember Slippery Rock!!
Has anybody noticed that the Frontier League is using three umpires this year instead of just two?

What does any of this have to do with Patrick Stanley?
How do you "back" into a championship? I don't think I've ever heard that phrase used before.
1st off let me say i hate to see all these anonymous people posting to this blog. If you are goin to talk crap on the team at least be a man or woman, as the case may be and put a name up. Secondly as the comment about the freedom loosing as opposed to the Things winning, thats just stupid. Every year, evey profesional sports team, in any sport, probably losses some games they should've, and wins some games they should've of lost, it's a fact that it's goning to happen. Obviously you have never played organized sports if you think a team came to lose. Nobody walks on to any feild of play, wanting to loose, it just doesn't happen. I know from personal experience that a cheering crowd can be a big help , to get your mind back to where it should be after a strike out,fumble, or any bad play, so don't discount the fans effect on the game. I think Jelks comment about us, the fans, was one of the few things he has gotten right so far this year. I really believe he is over managing the game, and need to just relax and let the game come to him. This is a mistake of many first year managers, however so maybe as the year goes on he won't continue to do this.
P.S. I know he managed Evansville to the championship, but this is his first year with this club.
